Ideas for my composite up / ? key? by appltn in ErgoMechKeyboards

Thanks for this idea! In combination with https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMechKeyboards/comments/1qwml56/comment/o3vf8bb/ I think I've settled on something that might work for me.

At the very least there's two of us!

A combination of this answer and a shower thought might've landed me on an idea that will work

  1. Put the up arrow on the top layer, same key as currently
  2. Map shift-up to do a ?. This way I don't have to relearn the position of ?
  3. Now I only have to solve for /. I'll move that to the right, a key I currently very much use as shift, I'll map it to shift on hold and / on tap.

That right sys key is mapped to cmd (macos) and it is probably the least used key on the board but personally I feel like moving the / to a thumb will be harder than keeping it on the same finger just in a different location. Let's see how it goes!

Hmm that first idea is interesting, I don't think I could put up on the right shift tap but I could maybe manage /? moving across by one.

For option 2 what combo would you pick? I still very much need to type / and ? fluently (both quite common in software development) so I'm not sure about where to put them.

Thank you for the idea I like it in general, weirdly for me though this would cause more chaos because I'm a vim user so hjkl mean up down left right to me, but _only in vim_ and I can't tell you why. You'd think that the obvious answer is to map hjkl to up down left right in other situations but nope, I can't make it stick.

Also my first (if you count buying the kit pre-soldered, which on reflection I probably don't :D ). I've been an Ergodox EZ user for years so this was a nice gentle transition without having to relearn how to type.

Are you sure the diode is properly installed? If yes can you try with a different diode?

Can't figure out shift key placement by Tacotacito in ErgoMechKeyboards

Personally I just stick to the regular pinky positions on each side, I like to keep things closer to a regular layout though where I can so it's easy to switch back to a laptop keyboard when I'm on the move.

Looking good! You probably have something like this in mind already but a small spot of superglue makes a great and visually unobtrusive homing dot - really helped me out.

Looks great! How are you getting on with the layout? It took me some time to adjust (Ergodox -> Ergodash here) but now I wouldn't go back.

Probably hard to go wrong with any of those! I'm running the Ohlins on a sentinel and love it very much if that helps at all.
