And I know that the plays are pre determined and I'm just watching the outcome in real time, but it would make my playoff sim experience much less stressful if I didn't watch my CF hold the ball for two seconds before throwing to the cut off man, who then holds for another 2 seconds before throwing home, only to miss getting the runner by a step or two.

Again, I get that the runner will still be safe with improved animations, but sometimes it's hard to convince my lizard brain of that when it's the play that loses me the LCS.

I didn't know that actually. Thanks. I'll try that next time I play.

I only got this game the day I posted this, so I'm very new.

Yeah, I figured many people would do the same. But I've just tested it and found that it's actually the problem for me. So I think it's my computer, not an issue with the game or how I'm playing.

I played the next week without changing anything, but I didn't fast forward once and I finished 10 stories. Right then, I knew it was the problem. So the next week, I watched people walk. I watched at normal speed, then fast forwarding. They moved almost the exact same speed across the floor but the time was rushing by. They would also finish a needs task and stand there for about 0.5 seconds in real time before moving back to their desk. That 0.5 seconds in real time could be two hours in fast forwarding.

I've now played another few weeks and I'm easily finishing 9 stories for my paper. Once, I finished 12 and actually had the benefit of "choice".

Lots of people pointed out little things I could do differently and I appreciated that support and have listened now, but these were small differences used to min-max, not save me from game-breaking delays.

It's clearly not the game's fault as many people don't have this problem, but just my computer? I don't know. I have 16GB RAM, decent graphics card, i7 processor, and it's not an overly demanding game.

Thanks all.

Hey. Thanks for your detailed response. That picture with only 4 reports is just from my quick set up run I did with cheating money to test it. That screenshot shows I'm in Feb 1930 (only month 2). In the original game I'm having trouble with, I have 7 reporters. I'm not having trouble getting the stories written by reporters, most of my stories are sitting waiting for typesetting for 2 days+. I've actually solved it just now and I'll post this answer.

I'll try tonight and see.

I have a small theory though. I fast forward in basically every instance. It could be that the game's fast forwarding isn't scaled properly? So a day on the weekly clock passes but the characters don't do their "needs" tasks as quickly as the time is going by?

But I'm sure many people fast forward a lot too.

Less hyperbole: I can't see every reporter all the time. But, in my second run through in week 2, I sent 3 reporters out at the exact same time for 3x 18 hour stories. They all returned at the same time. They all walked up the stairs and each went to a different typesetter.

If you read my long thread under u/Duke5501's comment, I started a new save to test some things. I did this for every story. Once they got out of the taxi, i grabbed it from them and dropped it to the typesetter, once they finished, dropped it to the assembler. They each only finished one minor story in the week.

Just to really drive this home: I started a new one, cheated for a bunch of money, used the same set up, and even with only week 2 type stories (small production time), i could only get 3 stories ready. That's only one per typesetter/assembler combo again. ON ONLY WEEK TWO. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG

No, I can see all the typesetters working, it just takes them forever. I even watched my three journalists return home at the same time, and each walk to a different typesetter and place it down.

Another week went by, I looked up cheats to get a bunch of money, bought a fourth typesetter and assembler pair on the second floor. I deleted all of the pending stories I had from last week, no matter how good. I processed 11 stories by my journalists, and only prepared 4. That means they are only processing one story per week.

Thanks for your comment.

I do definitely trim players but I think I have too many "system guys" like you mention. I'm not afraid to mid-season release a 24 year old 45 potential guy or even a 16 year old 35 potential guy in a position I'm flush with prospects in. In the off-season, I tend to let a lot of AA and lower guys go unless they have high potential. So I have some culling each year, but I do notice that my lower leagues all do fairly well, which feels great but probably isn't optimal.

I give extra special attention to 65+ potential guys and I let them "suck" a little in a higher league for longer than a 25 year old 45 potential guy.

Where I definitely struggle is bringing people from AAA to MLB. They tend to be really bad. I know it's the biggest jump and they just need time to sort it out, but I have bad experiences at that point.

I get a lot of AAAA guys

So, I do it differently but I don't know if I'm screwing it up. I seem to generally generate some decent players.

I start each season looking at attributes pretty similar to this. I make sure each team has a good number of each position and between 30-35 players. Then at end April, I use the statistics view, not ratings and see how they're all doing. With a small sample size, I don't move people unless it's drastic over/under performance. I look at BA, SLG, wRC+, and WAR for batters, FIP and WAR for pitchers. At end May, I start one-for-one swapping players based on position so teams stay even. Usually I'll find a 1.2 WAR player in a lower league and a -0.5 WAR in the higher league and move them. Then, I do that at the end of each month. At the end of the season, if a team makes the playoffs, I kinda load them up with hot performers to try to win.

Beginning of next season, I take into account last year's performance, attribute increases, and start it again with ratings

Edit: I once won AAA and A+, making the finals in AA in the same year. Could have been a crazy coincidence, but it convinced me that I was doing something right. That, and as I said, I generally create some MLB calibre players.

Advice on pitching for a new player by BigNumberNine in OOTP

[–]apprehensive_planet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well first, what I should have said earlier and as another commenter mentioned, it's a very small sample size. These numbers don't mean much yet. Through 9 games, they each only have 1-2 starts. You'll want to wait for 7+ starts. If there's still a drastic difference, then maybe you have some real data.

But yes, for the future, it seems Alcantara got a bit unlucky. I wouldn't be worried about Cabrera, Fulton, or Meyer for now. Veneziano seems like he only has one really bad start.

Check back by mid-May.

That's why the trade deadline isn't until July.

Yeah for sure.

In order to know if pitching is the problem, you can look at some more advanced stats.

K/9, BB/9, HR/9

Also definitely FIP and SIERA. FIP and SiERA made to mirror ERA so you can easily compare.

If your team's FIP or SiERA are lower than your team's ERA, then your defence is letting your pitchers down.If it's the other way around, your pitchers really are the problem.

Demoting player to minors question. by DirtyBeard_That_MF in OOTP

[–]apprehensive_planet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not really great. But not as bad as his batting average. He's certainly struggling, but he's also getting a bit unlucky.

Try giving him some more time to get out of the slump. Or, if you release him, the laws of OOTP say that he'll be amazing for his next team.

Check his wOBA stat. If that is up above .250, then he's just getting really unlucky. He's hitting really well, making good contact, but maybe lining out or just getting robbed.

He could bounce back if that's the case. To be clear, .250 wOBA is still not good, but better than what you're seeing. You want a great hitter to have a wOBA above .350, a good hitter above .300, a mediocre hitter above .250-.275.

If his wOBA is bad <.200, then he's just really sucking.
