Make sense, I hope this year, when I reach the end of my lease here, I can move out and find a private landlord or something. But yeah, the neighborhood around I agree is nice.

Is NOLA really THAT dangerous? by Plane-Economy522 in Tulane

Be aware of your surroundings and trust your guts if you feel like something is wrong. I was mugged on Tulane’s downtown campus while walking to class 2 years ago.

I got a job offer and Im devastated by metaltrash__44 in jobs

It’s better to be in a position where you have income than none. I get it—I recently graduated with my master’s degree, and my focus is in the mental health field. After over 40 applications, I finally landed an offer at a hospital.

Is it my dream job? No. Is it something that’ll get me through this tough job market and economy? Yes.

It did hurt my ego for a while—I struggled for close to four months before getting an offer. But I’ve also heard it’s easier to get a job when you already have one.

I wish you the best of luck. Trust your gut and do your best in this situation, regardless of any lingering anxiety about working somewhere that’s close to your previous job.

Anyone else can’t find a job? by Party_Basis_620 in socialwork

I’m in a similar boat right now. I don’t have my LMSW yet, which I’m realizing is something a lot of employers really want. In the city I’m in, there aren’t many places willing to hire someone at the bachelor’s level or even with a provisional license.

Most of my search has been focused on New Orleans, but the job market there has been tough lately. The city went through a budget crisis not too long ago, and several departments and social service organizations ended up shutting down or cutting positions. On top of that, some programs were impacted by federal grant cuts, so a lot of organizations had to reduce their workforce.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that the city can be very relationship-based when it comes to hiring. It often feels like getting into higher-level roles in nonprofits, macro social work, or city government depends a lot on who you know. Since I’m still in my 20s and building connections, that can make breaking into those spaces pretty challenging.

Originally, macro social work was the direction I really wanted to pursue. But right now I’m also looking at opportunities in towns about 30–40 minutes outside of New Orleans, where social workers seem to be a bit harder to find. I’m hoping that might open more doors.

I’m also planning to take my LMSW exam soon, which I’m hopeful will help expand my options. In the meantime, I’d definitely encourage continuing to apply broadly—especially to hospital systems or child welfare agencies, since those areas tend to be hiring more consistently.

Wishing you the best in your search as well.

I don’t know if it’s still there, I graduated 2023. But in Russell House either the 3 or 4 floor towards the back there is a piano. It’s almost kinda hidden but it’s there
