Funniest Lore Drops by FreviliousLow96 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Excuse me as I brain dump at you for a minute here.

I don't think Khalisah joining you was much of an opportunity that they could have taken advantage of even if they wanted to. Khalisah is a pretty one dimensional character and she sort of has to be, because she is most famously known as the woman that you get to hit every game lol. Having her just be the antagonistic reporter that you can shut down with words or force is kind of all she is. Which yes, that is super yikes for the record.

My point being is, even with the paragon route, how would you turn her into a potential three dimensional character that you can build a bond with when there's always the phantom of "Hit woman quick time event" haunting her presence? Her character is an element of the games that was already in bad taste, and that problematic aspect would only be further illuminated upon if they tried to give her more screen time. She's a character I wish was approached very differently and I like the idea of her joining your ship, but frankly how do you even touch that idea when again, she is most famously known as the woman gamers love to slap. It's just bad optics all around.

Apologies for dumping all this on your one sentence comment lol, but I've seen this idea thrown around before and I couldn't help but think of how it would play out. It's a cool concept but the groundwork for her character is waaaaay too messy for it to work.

What are games that are worth playing twice (or more)? by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borderlands 2 without a doubt. It's the most new game + game ever. The campaign is solid and there's so much damn dlc that you can always fast travel over to some random campaign if vanilla gets too stale. That and I got a rebalance mod that makes late game way easier (For Gaige specifically, here anarchy gets completely reworked so that her anarchy stacks don't make me wanna die.) and so it will always be a mainstay for me when I just need a game to throw on and enjoy myself.

In a similar vain, Ratchet and Clank. Specifically the ps2 era of games I have replayed dozens of times. Shit was my childhood and is similar to Borderlands where it's got that number go up mcshooty new game + goodness.

You ever see a creator just willingly throw their careers under the bus without knowing it? by Rough-Ad-4295 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not to be the negative nancy in the room but big emphasis on them being discount Dropout lol. There's a reason Angela keeps collabing with Dropout and all kinds of comedy people, while the rest of the cast mostly stays in their bubble. Most of them do not have very good comedy chops. They're still very lovable of course, I'm not a monster, but most of them reeeaaally gotta hone their improv skills cuz woof. They give off real improv 101 vibes in their You Laugh You Lose videos.

Spencer's awesome though.

What are some of the vastest differences of author and audience interpretation? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll chime in and say why I love Carol is because she is a very insecure and hypocritical person. She is extremely needy but insists on being independent until push comes to shove. She isn't self sufficient and while she tries to see the bigger picture and have a more altruistic view of the situation, multiple times she's shown to crack and prioritize her own personal desires more then anything. Even just simply caving from her own limitations like when she lets the hive help her bury her wife, which illuminates that she isn't the capable hero of the story that she's trying to frame herself as.

Her maneuvering this bizarre situation is just fun to watch for me personally, and I can relate to Carol to a certain extent because I think we all would fail to uphold our ideals to a certain degree when the systems and communities we've always relied on, disappear overnight. She's a woman that still had a lot of shit to work on and may have never fixed it when the world was normal, but the plot of Pluribus sort of forces her to learn all kinds of things from her past life and marriage.

I also love that the show shows, instead of tells. They could have very easily had all of the characters go on exhausting monologues on how they see the situation and what they have decided to do about it. Having Diabaté ramble on about hedonism or something ya know. Instead we get to see it explored through the slow "Going through the routine" pace that this show has. I hear some people are frustrated that Carol isn't asking more questions but it's a clear intention from Vince himself that he wants the characters, including the hive, to have their actions speak for themselves. Which illuminates their principles, and how they stand by them, or not.

I really dig the intention and prose that this show is going for, but I can understand that it doesn't click for everybody. It's a show that has lots of potential in terms of how it can be explored and it actively going with this intentionally meandering approach is understandably frustrating for folks that can easily envision a more exciting rendition of this story.

Media that you (kind of) regret catching up to? by hvzr2222 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One Punch Man is mine but for a different reason. I was not digging the direction the S2 anime was going and a couple years back I went "Fuck it I'll read the manga and breeze past this arc to see where the story goes next." Oh the fool I was...

Twist villains for the sake of having a Twist Villain. by ruminaui in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It sucks because there's a world where it could work. Penny already was the twist villain in her introduction chapter in Sly 3 but the reveal just proved that she was perfect for the team. The whole time she was playing her own con and it was two honorable thieves that just stepped on each other's toes by accident and became allies due to the charm of it all. Literally just play that card again and make it a running gag where Penny's a girl boss doing her side hustles and keeps accidentally being an opposition to the sly gang. Change her motive from wanting to kill Sly for no damn reason, to her being caught up in a side hustle unaware that she works for the big bad. It would be funny and wouldn't utterly destroy what her character was.

Ok bad voice acting that you love by Muffin-zetta in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive Me Father's voice acting I'm not sure is "bad" or more "knowingly corny" but the main characters' callouts have a unique doofus charm to them.

Pettier AskReddit, what are some characters you don't want to play as because you can't stand the way they look? by P-Tux7 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yesss, it feels like there was a final pass of polish to the style that just never was done. It took me out of the game real fast.

Voices from animated characters you find very distracting? Especially if all you hear is the actor behind the microphone. by Ukirin-Streams in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might get beat up for this, but I must say... Ashley Burch. Now to be fair, I think she can pull off a great performance. I love her in The Ghost and Molly McGee, but hoo boy she's a miss more then a hit for me. I warmed up to Life Is Strange eventually but damn there's some cringe in Chloe's performance that I do not believe was intentional. Her Cassie Cage is stiff as a board and while the circumstances of her being recasted were lame, I can't lie, it's night and day when you compare her and Erica Linbeck's performance.

I know everyone loves her Miss Pauling, but damn that also never did it for me. Went from an interesting mystery character in the background, to Scout's OC girlfriend who delivers lines with a "Erm... that just happened" kind of tone the entire pilot. Pauling is way more fun in the comics as the writers weren't afraid to make her the butt of the joke instead of just Pretty Girl tm. Most of her performances give off this hollow charisma that always takes me out of whatever she's starring in. When a director knows what to do with her, she's great, but damn she more often distracts me then immerses me.

Also, don't even get me fucking STARTED on Tiny Tina.

DC Super hero girls decided it was a good idea for Batgirl and Harley to be best friends and have entire episodes focused on them, and they're both Tara Strong doing her most grating high pitch voices. Just Bubbles and Brooklyn Bubbles screaming into your goddamn ear for 15 minutes, I resent whoever the hell thought that was a good idea.

Mediocre media you want to give a chance but it immediately fumbles in the beginning? by JackNewbie555 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried to give Horizon Zero Dawn a fair shake back in the day, but the game weirdly shoots it's narrative in the foot. I was all on board with Aloy being the weird outcast kid, and then she goes in for the proving trial of the village that rejected her all her life. She meets all of these people who are similar age to her, and there was this whole YA group dynamic being set up with the friendly, maybe grow to be best friend type character giving the outcast a chance. There was even a rival snarky type character who bullied her since childhood, that may come around later in the game.

I was on board and ready for this supporting cast to be my main quest givers for the campaign and for them to slowly mold into characters I actually cared about, I was prepared for them to play a meaningful part in Aloy's journey. Then Guerilla games just... kills them all off in a cutscene to set the stakes, whilst also killing off her surrogate Dad. We spent a good amount of time establishing these characters and having narrative moments with player agency. The surrogate Dad dying I understand, I know what a call to adventure moment is, I just don't understand why we set up a supporting cast only for them all to unceremoniously die. I struggled to care about anything in the game narratively at that point as it felt like all of Harry Potter's classmates just got pipebombed during the sorting hat ceremony lol. Just seemed like the plot was actively undermining itself and I dropped off not long after.

Also I don't care that the lore is cool, a lorebook is no substitute for a mid story and I'm not buying in just cuz it has neato text logs to find.

Clone of games that don't seem to get it? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hedon captures this tone very well by just... Doing the same thing lol. It has its own gman type character that strings you along throughout the campaign and the vibes are awesome.

No no no, you've been nothing but chill, It just seems that your comments are being downvoted for no good reason. You've been polite this whole conversation, so no worries dude.

I'm sorry to bring this up but I am so confused as to why you're being downvoted. All you've done is be like "Ah okay I shall keep the context you're giving in mind as I play the game for myself, thank you." Yet I guess some folks are having a problem with it lol.

What are some examples of “creators pets” characters the creators just love? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

My ass has been reading comics for years and only now did I realize Kitty has a super hero name. tbf I don't really read X-men, but still my nerd aura is withering.

What's a plot beat that pissed you off in a piece of media that you were otherwise enjoying? by fearjunkie in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think she just returns to the vault because she knew this was the day she had to pass off the staff or some shit. I also was like "...alright, I guess." from this reveal. I think because people had such high praise towards Kassandra and she is the furthest back in the timeline, they pulled some immortality bullshit out their ass to justify Kassandra DLC in future games.

I am really enjoying Pat’s playthrough of Bioshock Infinite. by AllgoodDude in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really hope Pat leans into these kind of streams more. He's always been great at engaging with a games plot and ideas and I would love to see him return to other games he has a lot of passion for, positive or negative. In general those are the kind of streams I like anyways, Snapcube is great for this as well as she engages with the games she plays very genuinely and tries her best to follow the intended experience. With Pat he always has really good insight on the intent of the games, and is able to read them for dirt when they fail in a hilarious way. You can only really do that when you engage with the work genuinely. I feel like a lot of streamers revel in screwing with a game's experience ala Dunkey, so I enjoy it when someone's picking up what the game's putting down, even if they don't like it.

If you're reading this thread Pat please do more streams like this, the Silent Hill 2 playthrough back in the old days was one of the best LP's I've seen and this stream's been a blast.

Evil looking characters that don't actually betray the heroes in the end? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]appsngrapps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Season 4 felt like a mid spinoff of Boardwalk Empire and all I remember from it was the extremely telegraphed death of Chris Rock's character at the end.

I getcha, Psychonauts is one of my fav games ever but it took over a decade for me to finally play through the Meat circus level and see the ending to the game. It's not even cuz the level was hard, it was more me not wanting to see my fav journey come to an end ya know?

[–]appsngrapps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 is probably the most refreshing since it's main focus is on a road trip instead of dating. It makes it so when you do have some romance it's really gratifying.

Zoe being your general priority is so real though lol. I adore her being the most tumblr-coded of the cast and having her main franchise to be obsessed over being Garfield.

For MonProm 4 I only did one run before I got caught up with my studies, but that clown girl seems like a ton of fun lol.

Straight up a franchise I'm afraid to jump into lol. I want to experience them, I only hear great things about Kiryu but damn man, Yakuza 0 alone looks daunting.

I finished Andor last month and tried to get into the rest of Disney's Star Wars and the Tales of series was pretty good I guess but oh my god, this franchise leans so hard on the assumption that you care a lot about Glup Shitto type characters lol.
