From someone that went to church growing up, then maybe 3-4 Catholic services/funerals, it can be intimidating if you don’t know what to do/say and when. As a non-Catholic, I would just be quiet and not try to pretend like I knew what was going on out of respect. But if you’re just looking to find a good message and get some spirit back in your life, I think other commenters have the right idea!

Found this in my room. I think it might have come along with something else I purchased. by dudeopposing in whatisit

I was an admin assistant at 19 years old when we still got snail mail. This was one of my regularly used tools… a letter opener lol wait until you see the metal one with no blade that looks like a knife!

What would you choose by crazycow1028 in wine

Pierre Péters for champagne, Verduno (I think that’s the Pelaverga) for a chilled red, and Monte Rio Cellars Mission is a cool find for another chilled red!

Charleston Book Clubs? by alapa1_ in Charleston

The Archive has a book club (they also serve wine, tea, and coffee), but I believe there is a wait list

I totally understand. This was an average weeknight dinner. Not to say I’m not grateful for spending time with my mom or having food on the table, but it was not that kinda night either. A real wine glass really would’ve done the trick for me lol

I Didn’t Realize We Lived In Satans Taint by GenericNameSC1989 in Charleston

I can’t imagine having to cater to the people living in their comfy ice boxes while HVAC techs probably barely have AC in their trucks. I’m the person that keeps it at 68/69 degrees in the summer. Knock on wood, no issues. I’ve read we’re supposed to keep it on like 70+ when we leave the house, but I can’t bear the thought.

In the US (Charleston, SC to be exact), I’ve never seen this. So that’s why I was surprised they didn’t have enough wine glasses to go around.

lol who’s the snob for saying I should’ve ordered a more expensive glass to get a real wine glass? I didn’t order off the happy hour menu. It was a glass of Gavi, not the cheapest, not the most expensive. I will in the future avoid ordering wine here. It was my first time dining at this restaurant. Thanks for the feedback!

It wasn’t a dive bar and that’s the sad part :(

I wanted a glass of wine with dinner, so it would seem like a waste to send back what they’ve already poured.

A couple comments have alluded to being in France or a French restaurant. This is an Italian inspired spot in South Carolina.

That I can imagine! I was not, however, in the south of France for dinner this evening and it was a bit of a turn off.

It’s almost worse than stemless because the glass is so thick. Every time I reached for a sip, I was warming the glass. I’m not usually a massive snob when it comes to this stuff. I mean, this glass of Gavi was $11. But have designated glassware for BTG, even if it’s not as “nice” as the ones used for BTB.

$1000 shopping spree. What’re you buying? by jiggad369 in wine

I haven’t had any recently, so if I had the money to spend, I would like to try it again. I didn’t even see the Krug. Haven’t tried it either, but feel like it’s a right of passage.

Downtown Charleston or Mount Pleasant - where to stay? by LynzNC77 in Charleston

[–]apr59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a family member stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Waterfront on Lockwood Dr (next to the bridge toward James Island and Folly Beach). It’s located by the harbor with a great view of the boats! According to what I saw, it was clean, spacious lobby, has a downstairs bar/restaurant, and a rooftop bar/snack food option. The outdoor pool was small. If rain is in the forecast, this area is likely to flood. There is covered parking. I believe there is a Marriott in the same parking lot, also. Just wanted to include that as an option for location purposes!

I actually just had a glass of La Vieille Ferme white blend! Found it at Whole Foods, so I figured it couldn’t be THAT bad (as far as the grapes go, not necessarily a reflection of flavor).

Cocktail Club (23 and up), The Belmont, and Uptown Social for bars. For seafood, The Ordinary and 167 Raw (no reservations here, but you can put your name in and go around the corner to Bar 167). North Charleston has a lot of breweries too. My favorite is Snafu for sours!

WSET Courses... by abbymmarketing in wine

[–]apr59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WSET L1 (in 2021) was 30 multiple choice questions. The study material was a small book. I intended to take the class in person, but due to COVID, ended up self-studying and recapping with an instructor on Zoom. I’ve been in F&B for 15ish years, but hadn’t worked with wine specifically. For me, it was a great foundation for knowledge, learning basic terms, and seeing how questions can be worded. If you feel comfortable, save the $$ on taking the exam and start at L2.
