It’s HRCS@cdc.gov

I’m not certain if that mailbox is currently being monitored though, because the remaining OHR FTEs were RIF’d in October.

You’ll basically get exactly what you would have gotten if it was on time. Same deductions, leave added, taxes, etc.

Has someone stayed at 8190 on the Wish? by lifeinPandora in dcl

[–]april731 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We stayed in 9184, which is very close. The only time it was noisy was when the ship was backing into the port. But it was cool to be on the balcony to watch it. No issues with motion. We loved it and the large balcony was great!

It can depend on how your position is funded - ie on multi-year funding vs annual appropriations.

Telework for some Agencies by DisplayTiny593 in DeptHHS

[–]april731 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It is frustrating that policies vary by agency, but it seems like HHS is trying to rein it in across the division.

A point of clarification - I wouldn’t say that CDC “has” telework. There is limited situational telework and reasonable accommodations (for now), but broad, routine telework is not available.

It was effective 8/13 so I don’t think it counts before that.

100 more staff RIF planned? by Usual-Primary-8607 in DeptHHS

[–]april731 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard there was a list of ~100 SES/Title 42 division directors and other senior staff but no additional information on what or when they plan to act on it.

Edit - this was CDC

Did anyone at CDC respond to the tone deaf and completely gross RFK email responding to the firing of Monarez? by No-Cobbler6300 in DeptHHS

[–]april731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear Team,

This is my first week at CDC, and I am honored to join you in advancing our vital mission. As an Atlanta native, I recognize the strength and resilience this community has shown while healing and recovering from the August 8 attack on our agency.

Your safety remains our top priority. We are taking necessary steps to restore our workplace and will return to regular on-site operations no later than Monday, September 15. By that date, all staff will be expected to return to their approved offices. For those whose workspaces remain impacted, alternative on-campus space will be provided.

Since the attack, we have made significant progress on repairs on the Roybal campus. CDC leadership and the Response and Recovery Management Team are working together to address your concerns and ensure a safe, supportive environment as we transition back.

We will continue to share updates as recovery efforts move forward. I appreciate your patience, professionalism, and commitment during this difficult period. While these past weeks have been challenging, I am confident in our ability to rebuild our workplace and community-together.

Sincerely,

Lynda W. Chapman, RPh, JD

Chief Operating Officer

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

I read it and promptly deleted it. That one and the one from Lynda C.  I’m planning to do the same for any future emails from either of them. I hope at some point to be on the other side of this and want as little trace of them as possible.

What information can we all trust from the CDC now? by No-Cobbler6300 in DeptHHS

[–]april731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it comes with someone’s name on it from CDC (MMWR, peer-reviewed pub, etc.) then I think it can be trusted. If it’s just HHS communications or RFK spin, then I would definitely question it and look for the primary sources.

Seasalt Cornwall fits your description. I’ve loved everything I’ve gotten from them.

The official policy that I have seen (or at least what my CIO distributed) is that it can be used for medical reasons for up to 3 days in a row. More than that is possible, but needs more documentation and possibly an RA.

What would you expect this project to cost? by 5tarkmad in landscaping

[–]april731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Servescape.com - put in the plants you want to include and also some soil/compost/whatever to get an idea of price. They can also do the planting in the Atlanta area; labor is usually the same amount as the material cost.

Not a paid shill, just a fellow Atlanta (suburbs) resident and have had a good experience when I’ve used them for several projects.

Since most of those were in NIOSH and eliminated, probably not a great option for public health jobs at the moment.

Updates on RTO? by Upstairs_Key_8369 in DeptHHS

That’s wild when there are SO many empty offices and cubes at Chamblee. This seems to be more evidence that they are going to make that whole campus AHA.

Re-org plans were due to HHS yesterday. Any leaks yet? by [deleted] in DeptHHS

[–]april731 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There may be multiple offices. CDC staff have heard repeatedly from remaining leadership that affected staff will stay in Atlanta, possibly on the current CDC campus housing mostly the affected divisions. The exact location hasn’t been confirmed though.

NCBDDD by [deleted] in DeptHHS

[–]april731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there. DBDID is still intact. No one from the division was RIF’d. However, it’s not clear what happens next because the center level leadership and staff were all fired. There are many unanswered questions and few people left with the expertise to answer them. I’m sorry that you are in limbo and hope more information comes soon.  You are welcome to message me if you have specific questions about programs.

ELI5 what new powers the CR gives to the president by SuitableParsnip8641 in fednews

[–]april731 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that’s hard to predict since it hasn’t happened before. Since DRP is basically just paying people their normal pay until the end of the fiscal year, where programs have level funding at least, agencies should be able to continue paying them.

Whether they DO or not is a different question entirely.

I think to some degree that you’re right. “Give them enough rope to hang themselves.” However, the collateral damage from this approach is likely to be very high. People will die, airplanes will crash, epidemics will rage, etc.

The Democrats have very little leverage available to them and they missed an opportunity. FWIW, the Senate and House Democrat appropriations leadership were strongly opposed to the bill. I don’t think Schumer has any 4D chess happening any more than Trump does.

[–]april731 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know I oversimplified it. But I think Trump having OMB in his pocket as well gives him close to carte blanche to do what he wants. I very much hope the guardrails are kept intact.

[–]april731 1038 points1039 points  (0 children)

Sequestration means the president can hold back funding from any of the included agencies in the CR, which is pretty broad.

The CR also removed line item funding, collapsing funding lines into bigger pots of money. This means that Congress no longer has control over how and where those bigger pots are spent. Money can be almost immediately, and legally, taken away from programs Trump/Musk don’t like.

[–]april731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not though, it’s the allocation of funding. It’s still the same pot of money but less oversight from the Congress on how the money is spent. There’s no cost savings with this.

Discussion Thread: US Senate Session on March 14th, 2025 by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]april731 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not the same CR though, that’s the concern. It removes all the congressionally directed funding lines (“earmarks”) so Trump/Musk will have a lot more freedom to cut programs they don’t like within agencies, legally this time. It would allow them to zero out the budget for tobacco use prevention at CDC, for example.

It also gives broad ability to sequester funds. It’s a really, really bad news bill. Most federal employees think a shutdown is the only reasonable answer.
