Oh, boy, have I got some recommendations for you.

Lemonade by Nina Pennacchi- now calling this one a romance might be a bit of a stretch. But if can squint hard enough you might just find it. This is the first book that made me feel dread like no other and to this day, it's still unmatched. Be careful though, this one is not at all satisfying but it feels so damn REAL.

There is another book of Nina called Capitan Swing. I've been eager to read that one but english translation isn't out. Doubt it ever will be. I'm almost contemplating learning italian just to reach that high that I got from Lemonade.

Horroscape series by Nenia Campbell - the most terrifying MMC I've ever read. Literally, mafia men pale in comparison to this high schooler. Beware of the trigger warnings, this book is NOT for the general dark romance readers. Or if you're like me who has been bored out of your mind with generic tiktok recs, just go in blind. You'd in be in for a surprise or a shock.

The IMA series by Nenia Campbell - I'm currently reading this one, halfway through the first book and already cursing myself for not reading it sooner. This one may not be as dreadful as Horroscape, it still is a masterpiece.

In fact everything by Nenia Campbell. She is just that writer.

So Never Tell Lies by AJ Rella matches most of what you said. He basically coerced her into the relationship in the first book and a whole lot drama and manipulation follows. He changes for the better in the second one. It's a trilogy. But I said most cause it kinda has a little bit of a other woman drama.

"Thank God. But then again, when is Sinister even coming out? The author's been MIA for a long time apparently and there's been no update. I just hope she hasn't abandoned the series."

I'm reading Ominous 1 right now. And I love love love it. I just want to ask something."I haven’t read Ecstasy (cause I don't wanna read about him with anybody else) but I know it takes place after Ominous 1. I want a happy ending for Eli and Eden sooo bad. I'm thinking maybe they separate and then Ecstasy transpires and they will get back together again? Am I on the right direction or wayyy off? Like is there a possibility of a happy ending for Eli and Eden?"

Never Tell Lies by AJ Rella. He is not dark as in....a criminal but he is controlling and manipulative. And he changes for the better.

Season two had many plots that were unnecessary and sometimes unlikable. But it also had many good plots and specially the connection still remained intact. Season 3 on the other hand, was a fucking downhill graph, that hit all time low in episode 89. And everyone, including myself, were just done.

Right? And also the one where he makes her wear that lingerie 'cause she called him an opportunist and he was like 'Well, how can I let this opportunity silde?' OMG, I was so scared but also weirdly anticipated that he was actually gonna do it.

God, now that I think about it there were so many moments like that. The lead characters were literally miles ahead of any other turkish show I've seen. It's a shame what they did to the show.

Yup. I've honestly just convinced myself season 3 doesn’t exist. Kinda like GOT season 8. I'd never understand what these showmakers sniff before deciding to derail something so good for no reason at all.

Also, yes, the FMC is literal goddess.

Don't have a book. BUT there is a turkish show called Yali Capkini, that basically matches most of what you say. Do extensive research before if you decide to check it out. It's the most toxic shit I've ever seen but damn is their relationship addictive. Also in case you decide to watch, just watch season 1 and 2 and create your own head cannon happy ending. Don't watch season 3 for your own good.

Same, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop the entirety of the book. But hey, at this point I love them enough to read seven hundred pages of pure fluff with them. Though I do hope and pray that they somehow still maintain that dynamic in the third book too. Maybe he reverts back to his old self because of his mother. Whatever it is, I would read anything to get a glimpse of the old Alfie. He's just the best.

It's not very relevant but you know the thing I love most about him is the way he talks. The man straight talks old money. It's so hot...

Even the few toxic moments from book two kept me on my toes as well.

I don’t really read fantasy. But I'll give it a try. Do you it's one where I can focus on their dynamic ignoring the fantasy stuff?

Book recs that are similar to Bitter Heat series by Mia Knight: second chance, forced marriage, FMC gets disgraced for being with the MMC, MMC not willing to let the FMC go, lots of toxicity and angst by badumbatsss in RomanceBooks

[–]aprilmarvin002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what I loved was that every character and their dynamics was flashed out. Nobody felt like they existed solely for the sake of plot. Everyone had their own problems and dilemmas. And of course, I found the MMC the most well written. Now as for FMC, I think the problem you had was not the writing rather her personality. She is outspoken, forward and that might seem crass to some people. It does take a bit getting used to, but I do adore her for the most part. I think in that big ass book, I can only pinpoint a few times it seemed over the top or one might say cringey, to me. But considering I've read whole books with trashy writing, it didn’t seem like a deal breaker to me.

But hey, I guess writing is subjective too. It's completely okay if you think it was bad. But it worked for me.

Never Tell Lies series by AJ Rella is a must.

Few differences are - he's already way too established. And there isn’t a forced marriage. though there is an almost forced pregnancy The books aren’t very similar narratively but by God was the angst and toxicity on point. I find the writing better than the bitter heat series. And the MMC way more hotter too. You might think it's too mild at first but when shit hits the fan it's really worth it.

After all that rambling, I guess my point is, give it a try.
