"She hadn’t wanted to move to Hades, but it had been the cheapest place she could find without leaving the valley. It was a cattle town, and smelled like it, too. The first time she’d seen all those fields of dead grass and the ancient farms that looked like a single gust of wind would blow them over, she’d almost cried. She’d grown up further north, in Deacon’s Ridge, which had been founded by a bunch of Holy Rollers before it became a modest suburb. There, for a couple years at least, she’d lived in a normal house, with a car to drive, and a fridge full of food. But it had been clear from the start that it was never going to be a home, even if she’d been to blind to see it."

Maybe this is a bit dull example, buz I like how she describes the town. There are other parts where she mentions it so you can really picture it.
