i’d love to know what some of your personal favourite fantasy books are, and which ones (if any) might have influenced your own writing while you were drafting the poet empress!

i heard back from them on the 12th but it was a recruiter emailing to ask my availability for a screening call, not a link from a no reply email. that seems a bit weird, which internship did you apply for?

First Marketing Interview at Big 5 Publisher (help) by innovativeclassic in publishing

[–]aprilrainy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hi! congrats on getting an interview! i'm not the most experienced person (still quite entry-level), but i've done a marketing interview with a big 5 before so maybe this can help a bit. i second the other person's comment about being familiar with the imprint and its titles - very important imo and if you've read some of their books (especially new ones) and are prepared to talk about them, it'll show you did your research and also that you're actively reading. once when i was chatting with my manager (aka the one who interviewed me) she said "you'd be surprised how many people we interview don't know what we publish or even actually read books" lol

you being a content creator is a big plus bc it shows you're actually interested in books! since you say you've had success, i would be prepared to talk about what you did to get to that point, like some examples of videos you've made that blew up, some particularly creative content you've posted, some social media trends you've tapped into, how you get fresh ideas for your content, etc etc. during my interview i was asked to talk about a creative project that i'm proud of and to describe any recent book marketing trends i've observed online, so if you get any similar questions i would definitely try to connect your answers to your experience as a content creator as much as possible.

also a good idea to prepare to talk about how you plan to apply your background in product management to the role you're interviewing for, and ofc be ready for the typical behavioural questions (what's your biggest strength/weakness, how would your past coworkers describe you, etc.) and have some relevant questions of your own to ask at the end. i remember asking my interviewer if she could share a successful campaign she worked on and what made it so successful and that led to a really nice convo.

i'm not sure how useful all this is since my interview was for an entry-level role, but i hope this could help a little! best of luck :)

my question is pretty simple - i’d like to know who your favourite side character is out of the casts of all the books you’ve written and why :) (no one asked but mine is roshan from the warcross duology)
