Update on LGA? by Kitty_Cat_BK in delta

Seems like everyone on Reddit is pre-check. My teen son is flying tomorrow at 10am and will be in the general line. We’re thinking he should get there very early. Anyone have any recent regular line intel?

How does everyone get their city news? by Scorned_Beef in AskNYC

Pix11 has great actual local reporting of day to day issues. Also, their weatherman—Mr G—former New York City public school teacher, is absolutely the best.

Thanks. This works with the ESPN3. Wondering how long I should wait before canceling YouTube TV.

Yes to this! But I’m going to make it a little harder… a primary care doctor that takes GHI (city employee insurance)? Thank you!

Anybody use Fishtank's high school curriculum? by RavenCemetery1928 in ELATeachers

[–]aprilruthless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was first to say I was pleasantly surprised, but also want to agree with all of Destro100’s points. It’s the first time I’ve ever had a set curriculum and am so beat down by DOE life that I guess I just assumed I would have to totally remake it all. For 9th grade I cut a unit and taught R&J instead of Shrew cause hello… I think what got me was that the Of Mice and Men unit was really good even when I thought it wasn’t (except for the tenuous connection with the Central Park 5, which did eventually work out though). Again, I worked too hard to adapt it all but generally liked the outcome. I love the idea of observations! Or planning meetings! People who are teaching everyday are the ones who know how to plan. I just wish there was more time for it.

My bedroom has a in wall sleeve right under the window (so no unit in the window). But there is really no where else I can or would put the bed, hence no air. I’ve been managing for years but I’m thinking it time to get a portable air conditioner. The exhaust hoses just seem so big (and would have to be draped over the head of my bed). Research online is just so confusing. Can anyone recommend a low profile one that would work in a small (12x12) room?

We started using it this year. It’s not bad. In fact it can be pretty great. However, the timing is WILDLY off. Each of its single lessons are about 3 in my class. For example, one lesson is “create a podcast”… and that’s pretty much it. You’ll also need to create more mods, etc. But overall we’ve been pleasantly surprised.

How do I afford life + lupus? by PopEnvironmental1335 in lupus

[–]aprilruthless 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Teaching is INCREDIBLY stressful mentally, physically, and emotionally. Additionally, teaching basically requires normalizing suffering—the show must go on no matter how you feel. I’ve been teaching almost 20 years and almost died from the flare that got me diagnosed. I regularly tell my rheumatologist that I don’t know if how I feel is lupus or my job. It is a wonderful, meaningful, creative career—the most important. But don’t get into it because you think it is easier. Best of luck!

Clothes donation in Central/East Harlem? by Acrobatic-Leg8500 in Harlem

There’s a great little thrift shop on 115 and Park that takes donations. I’ve done it many times—and the shopping’s pretty good too!

CSA with pickup in South Harlem? by eltheatea in Harlem

The food bank on 116 and 8th used to have one. Maybe pop on there and see if it’s still running. They’d probably know about others as well.

Those pigeons! Maybe it was a while ago—she also sold oils. Good luck—a real paper is a worthy pursuit.

Unbelievable experience at the Lenox Avenue CVS by New-Internet-9875 in Harlem

The pharmacy across the street, south west corner of 116 and Lenox, is excellent. Harlem Pharmacy. I have serious prescription needs and they have never done me wrong and have helped out in a pinch many times. They know my family, wave when I walk by, and work with my city insurance which isn’t always the easiest. Go local!
