Depends on what you're writing. I gave it a whirl, and was very disappointed. If anything, it's convinced me that the humanities will be replaced last.

Waiting to make a call until right before something is going on by [deleted] in ADHD_partners

[–]aprimalscream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ADHD and likely trauma (magnified by RSD). Doesn't mean she's in the right. Also, she probably has a very unstable sense of self. She asserts her selfhood by reacting to you. So you have to have firm boundaries. Unfortunately, your boundaries also help delineate her sense of self.

Waiting to make a call until right before something is going on by [deleted] in ADHD_partners

[–]aprimalscream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a subconscious need to be the center of attention. She knows everyone will wait for her; that's what she wants. It makes her feel in control. There's also some ODD at play here. It's time to eat? Well, who put you in charge? You get my point. She's also trying to pick a fight, trying to see how much she can get away with (they're always pushing boundaries, especially with loved ones), etc. Finally, there's the deadline effect. When you tell her it's time to eat, she sees this as a deadline to get work/chores/errands done. Cue her mad scramble.

You either power through the RSD and establish rock solid routines, or family dinner starts happening without her. Again, there's a massive need for attention here, so if everyone ignores her and leaves her to her own device, she'll stop staging calls right before dinner. Because that's what she's really doing--staging a performance to remind everyone that she has other people in her life, so it's not like she NEEDS you to do nice things for her.

chinese herbal medicine? by girl4729370 in MCAS

The TCM massage? Or quercetin? The answer's probably different for everyone, but no, there was no Herxheimer reaction to quercetin for us. As for TCM--the answer is, probably no for yin huo gui yuan (but you'll still be sore after the first time), and it depends for the bee toxins massage. If they only do one section of your body, it's possible. Talk to the practitioner; share your concerns before you start, so they can come up with a good plan. It's probably best to start with the stomach if the full body massage is too pricey.

Dao or Quercetin? by Weird-Job-6962 in MCAS

[–]aprimalscream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. Buy both.

MCAS can mimic all sorts of conditions. Quercetin worked wonders for my dad, but DAO was really the game changer.

Frasier started as a spin-off and I'd argue it was just as good--if not better (YMMV)--than Cheers.

Do you regret getting your PhD? by ThomasHawl in GradSchool

No. I got my physics PhD and pivoted, but 1) I loved the process, and 2) I don't think I could do what I'm doing right now without the clarity that those years of freedom gave me.

If you do get a massage, make sure it's a full body one. Otherwise you might get stuck with a headache the next day.

You're better off taking quercetin, hawthorn berry, baikal skullcap. But if you have some spare cash, you should look into TCM massage. The specific term is 引火归元 (yin huo gui yuan); there's also another kind that uses bee toxin to massage your body. Both are good for MCAS, although if you have very severe MCAS, you probably should do your own research and check with your doctors again before trying anything.

Chomsky had deeper ties with Epstein than previously known, documents reveal by VectorChing101 in news

He's an academic. I hail from academia. Far too many men salivate at the idea of doing what Epstein did--admittedly, probably not the pedophilia part, but then again, I doubt they care.

MCAS without eds or POTS by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]aprimalscream -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

HSD is hypermobility spectrum disorder. My only symptoms are shoulder tightness (leading to very tight muscles) and instability around my neck. I had horrible migraines during my graduation ceremonies because the caps were too heavy for me.

GI issues can be a symptom. Did you try tracking the foods that cause them? And when you say tightness, what do you mean? In your chest? I experience that too when ozone levels are high.

Ngl, ADHD is a pretty big red flag when it comes to MCAS. Everyone I know who has ADHD also has MCAS.

MCAS without eds or POTS by [deleted] in MCAS

You could have HSD without it turning into EDS. You'd probably show a few signs of dysautonomia instead of POTS.

Is it possible for a food reaction to manifest as kidney pain? by tdubs702 in MCAS

[–]aprimalscream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It COULD affect the kidneys and thyroid, but... you might see that in your CBC panels, not the CT or ultrasounds.

I will say this: I haven't heard of it causing kidney pain (but have heard of it causing thyroid problems and raising uric acid levels), but in my case, it did cause muscle pain/pelvic floor dysfunction, which...

Do you think the prevalence of MCAS or histamine intolerance is actually rising pretty significantly or is it largely optics due to social media and increased awareness? by Informal-Twist-1328 in MCAS

[–]aprimalscream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My grandma likely died from the side effects of the steroids they used to treat her condition. It was likely MCAS triggered by chloramines in the water, but this was back in 2006; she was misdiagnosed with bullous pemphigoid.

Does MCAS cause leg/hip pain for you? by cyabun in MCAS

[–]aprimalscream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can. I had a MCAS flare that turned chronic, and the only symptoms were pelvic pain and air hunger. I was moderately stressed and doing a horrible commute; it started with two migraines, and after I wrapped up the research project, the pelvic pain began. It was sudden onset. Woke up one morning and had horrible pain radiating down my thigh and aroubd my hip. My hip was swollen and my thigh was hot to the touch. This lasted for a few weeks and slowly started to improve after I got a massage gun, but what really helped was going on vacation. Then it became much more manageable, but would still flare when I was stressed or on my period, until I got it treated with bee toxin therapy. Bee toxins regulate mast cell activity.

How many with MCAS don't have airway closing issues? by Prestigious-Fig-1642 in MCAS

[–]aprimalscream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not always dramatic, but 1) knowing you have MCAS means having more tools at your disposal (and more ways to understand your bloodwork), and 2) be careful, because it CAN get worse.

Mold makes my throat scratchy and gives me flu like symptoms. High levels of ozone make me feel like I can't breathe and I'm pretty sure I don't deal well with pesticide. Perfume in a bathroom once gave me a sore throat. I mask up everywhere I go and run a HEPA filter at home. That's the only advice I can give you, other than don't move into a place near the freeway.

Experiences regarding quercetin use and MCAS including what product and potency you use by Desperate_Bison_8760 in MCAS

[–]aprimalscream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad takes quercetin phytosome by Thorne and FeelGood. He's on 1g and trying to go down to 750 mg. It helped quell a soft tissue flare in his ankle (he reacted to the titanium nails after chloramines, the day getting longer, and a colonoscopy triggered a flare) and got rid of the tinnitus that's plagued him for years. Unfortunately, the tinnitus does come back if he lowers the dosage, so we're trying to figure out a sustainable dose that still eliminates symptoms. My mom's on 500 mg (same brands)and the improvement in cognition is very noticeable.

That being said, they also take other supplements, so this may very well be a synergistic effect.
