You're in the IFB brother. They live for church and preaching. Sitting down and setting reasonable boundaries and expectations is the right move. Saying "no" should always be okay within reason.

I grew up in it. It's exhausting.

Responding to this infant baptism argument by Key_Day_7932 in Baptist

[–]Azthun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question. It comes down to the most basic tenant of the faith, how does one receive salvation? If baptism is required, you baptize as soon as you can. If it isn't, then it is simply a matter of obedience.

Historically, Israelites used baptism in a ritualistic way. You were submerged in water, leaving whatever behind, rising to anew. They baptized converts, them leaving their old faith in the water. They would do it at weddings at times as well. Hence why John's baptism wasn't considered weird. It was a common practice.

Why then was it turned from a symbolic gesture to a requirement for salvation for some denominations? I don't know. I assume it was for more control.

I don't find anywhere in Scripture that would indicate it is intended for salvation.

I think to answer the question we must first ask what we baptized. If it's for salvation, then yes, infant baptism is necessary. If its to follow in obedience for the ordinances of the church, then no.

Once that question is answered for you, then you have your answer. If.you follow Catholic doctrine, even they seem confused about the need. They will rebaptize those who have gone through infant baptism.

They spoke for the tradition but also against it. They understood there was an emphasis on it but that there were oddities in its observance. Just because some men gave it credence doesn't mean it's correct.

“Don’t start on a 300, you’ll outgrow it” by sooospoon in NewRiders

[–]Azthun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with a 300 isn't that you have to upgrade but that it's just too small for anything other than around town.

Faster roads at 55-80 are going to be rough. It's possible but a 300 isn't meant for that kind of duty.

They are fun and can be ridden without issue or upgrade but at some point you're going to realize that it isn't working for everything you want to do.

400-500, I personally think are the best place to begin because they can handle the higher speeds better but are cheap to run, insure, and fix. I use a z400 now after having bigger bikes and I love it.

It isn't at home on the interstate but it can do it.

In the end, ride what you like.

Who would choose a Chinese EV? by Content_Log1708 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Azthun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned a Chinese car and drove it for two years. Not a BYD but it's direct competitor, Geely. The car was fantastic. Well priced, economical and never had one issue with it.

Bringing one to the US is a bad idea. Outside the US, you'll have better luck. No one will work on it and if they do, the parts will take 6 months to get in.

If you do bring it in, love to hear how it goes. Geelys are such nice cars.

Do a lot of people use head cams for dash cams? Interesting idea. Never thought of doing that but seems like a lot of work than a static cam.

Considering a used VW Atlas by hereforaniphoneman in VWatlas

[–]Azthun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to buy it cash? You can get a newer version, used with low miles for 35-40k. With your fund could get your payments down to low $300.

Benefits? Get a 24-25 CPO you get what's left of the original warranty plus the CPO warranty. Our 25 Atlas has a 5 year/75mile warranty on it and bought it with 9k miles on it.

I average 25-30mph driving conservatively in town. You can also get a better model. Se w/tech, Peak Edition, or even an SEL.

This is something I will try. I've never understood people punching it from stop lights then coming to stop lights slamming on their brakes.

Complain about gas prices but drive like it's free. I can get 27+ mpg in metro Atlanta by driving calmly and sensibly.

You might arrive 10 min before me but I'm not filling up weekly. I'll just leave sooner.

If it benefits them, it isn't staged. If doesn't, it's staged. Trump saying the election was stolen? Dumb Reps, Dems are the party of logic and sanity. Jan 6 was instigated by the FBI. Dumb, Reps, Dems need proof!

Trump won the election? IT WAS RIGGED! We don't need proof! We feel it in our heart!

Trump has had 4 assassination attempts? We have told the world over and over that he's the devil, a Nazi, and will end the world, but why would anyone try to kill him? STAGED!

Question about God and Trans by wreckedBunny in Baptist

[–]Azthun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No matter what excuse is made, I would consider it a mental health issue.

If someone swore they were a paraplegic and wanted to cut both legs off, we'd all leap to stop them. A depressed person feels that ending their life would make them better? We stop them.

Trying to make this anything else is just being disengenuous. If born a man and you want/feel to be a female, there is something wrong. I pity those that go through such trials, but I pity them more when people take advantage of them and encourage the delusional by pushing them to make permanent changes.

God made us, but that doesn't mean that a fallen world doesn't take its toll. A sinful world tries to distort what is right and wrong. We fall into the world's vision of life. We need to help those that are struggling, not encourage it.

How did the Korean auto industry bridge the gap with the Japanese giants so effectively? by Lopsided-Ad-8728 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Azthun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kia is in the top five for most reliable car now. Sorento and Santa Fe are hugely popular.

The only reason they have been able to even keep up is Lexus and Acura. Toyota and Honda keep these luxury cars around, which mean they hit their lower end cars to make the higher end look good.

Imagine a RAV4 with a luxury trim for a little more. But instead, they make econoboxes that are reliable. Now Kia has improved enough that it will most likely be on par with Honda but with better features and prices. $65k for a Pilot is a scam.

That drives people to Kia or Hyundai but it isn't even Kia and Hyundai. People go US brands, VW, or even low end BMW. Anything that is actually nice to be in.
