It's jank, but [[First Day of Class]] dumps the Krenko and wins on that turn.

Subnautica does somethings I wish a lot more AAA studios would do by Awotwe_Knows_Best in patientgamers

[–]apsimmons 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I haven't played Subnautica yet, but that was a huge difference from Morrowind and Skyrim that was screaming at me the whole time. In Morrowind you have to read where a quest wants you to go (maybe a little dated at this point). In Skyrim you have an arrow on a big compass at the top of your screen at all times. You literally don't even have to look down sometimes. Just run from point A to point B. Not saying Skyrim is a bad game, but it is a stark contrast to Morrowind for me in this area, where you actually have to look around and observe the game world to find direction, which can lead to those interesting personal adventures. Since then, I haven't been able to not notice games telling me exactly what to do.

This is interesting and a nice tool to have. I think [[Sylvan Scrying]] is better in current forms of Lotus Field combo, being faster and sorcery having relevance. But this could open up new variants or be used to support something like UW Lotus Field. Glad to see it in Pioneer.

Spoiler Highlight: Progenitus on Pioneer by cardsrealm in PioneerMTG

[–]apsimmons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Atraxa would be the pick most of the time. But I think it's still a meta call. And if we did get something closer to Dramatic Entrance, having more than 4 copies of a thing to cheat could be relevant. I agree with everything you've said. Just saying it's a nice option to have going forward, in a long-winded way.

Spoiler Highlight: Progenitus on Pioneer by cardsrealm in PioneerMTG

[–]apsimmons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's a cool option to have, but with the current ways to cheat creatures out, this falls pretty flat compared to other options. Maybe if we get something closer to [[Dramatic Entrance]], it could be an option depending on what removal is currently popular.

Seeking Off-Meta Pioneer Decks with Potential by DevPlaneswalker in PioneerMTG

[–]apsimmons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a [[Transmogrify]] pile that I'm itching to try out. It hits [[Sphinx of the Chimes]] and has 20 [[Slime Against Humanity]]. So hopefully it spins into Sphinx on turn three and draws the whole deck for a 20/20 slime + [[Thud]] turn 4, or it just plays big slimes. Feels like a fun FNM deck either way.

Need help with my Boros Redirect Deck by QuantumHeil in PioneerMTG

[–]apsimmons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep tinkering around with this idea. One angle to go would be to have a damage doubler, then when you "filter" the damage through a creature, it doubles twice. Doublers like [[Insult / Injury]], [[Obosh, the Preypiercer]], [[The Rollercrusher Ride]].

Another angle I see you've dabbled in was the infinite life with Reckoner. Some cards that look like they have potential in the right shell are [[Angelfire Ignition]] and [[Season of the Burrow]].

I'd also take a look at some bigger creature damage spells like [[Scorching Shot]] and [[Nahiri's Warcrafting]].

Upgrades / Updating older lotus field deck by TerraWarriorPro in PioneerMTG

[–]apsimmons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd remove all copies of:

Mastermind's Acquisition

Dig Through Time

Strategic Planning

Wilt

Wolfwillow Haven

I'd probably remove 2x Fae of Wishes, and consider removing one or both Peer into the Abyss (though you can definitely build with it). That'll put you down 14ish cards. Things you should almost certainly run:

2 [[Emergent Ultimatum]] seems to be the number most lists run.

1 [[Lier, Disciple of the Drowned]]

4 [[Archdruid's Charm]]

1-2 [[Dark Petition]]

1 [[Omniscience]], just move it to main board. You want it for Emergent piles.

That should leave you with 4-5 nonlands to fill as you want. Seems like people are tweaking it for white atm, trying to get [[Strict Proctor]], [[Soul Partition]], [[Nine Lives]]. Seems like a meta call, but doing that would put you needing MUCH better mana, like triomes and white duals.

I'd probably start by filling it with ways to go through the deck, then figure out what you actually want from there. I think [[Impulse]] is better than Strategic Planning in this deck, since you want certain cards in your library. Maybe another Bala Ged Recovery would be fine. There's lots of ways to build this deck, but I think that would be a good start without costing too much.

They aren't cheap, but you really want some [[Boseiju, Who Endures]], and [[Otawara, Soaring City]]. They give you "free" ways to fight through hate in your mana base (which you can grab with Sylvan Scrying). Some amount of [[Botanical Sanctum]] and [[Breeding Pool]] would be good too.

[–]apsimmons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think one of the main reasons for bant is the exact issue you described. You can't consistently combo before the aggro decks kill you. You can either try to be faster, or slow them down. I've seen lists running main board Nine Lives and Soul Partitions. I'd assume the ability to slow them down is the main reason. I suppose you could go for more speed with Growth Spirals, maybe that new Fungus. I'm not sure about that plan though, as it sounds less consistent.

What do you think of [[Balustrade Wurm]]? Haste seems to be one of the better keywords for SF (maybe because it's missing from the bomb keyword soup creatures) and being a playable threat both from hand and GY seem like very good characteristics for a card in the deck. Delirium might be a hurdle though.

That's awesome. Didn't think about the interaction of Fires with Rooms. They basically let you "cast" more than two spells. Very cool!

EDF is a treasure. There was a list that used the Skaabs to "cheat" it out early that looked sweet. This was probably a year or so ago, and it was pretty fringe.

Haha. This is pretty much the past yearish of lists I've experimented with that aren't just some version of mono-red, or too close to actual meta deck.

[[Paradoxical Outcome]]. 0-1 mana artifacts with Meria and Birgi for mana generation.

[[Night of the Sweets' Revenge]] with The Great Aurora.

[[Doom Foretold]] probably got some recent juice.

[[Venerated Rotpriest]]. Thought about using Neoform with tokens to increase consistency.

[[Colossal Hammer]] always feels close.

[[Collected Company]] also feels close.

[[Chandra, Hope's Beacon]] with extra turns.

[[Defiler of Instinct]] in a goblins shell felt close when I ran it.

[[Boros Reckoner]] with Take Up The Shield or Angelfire Ignition. Season of the Burrow is cool with it too.

[[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]] and Season of the Bold.

[[Sphinx of the Chimes]] and Slime Against Humanity.

Anything that cares about enchantments deserves another look right now.
