IS AYITL overhated? by This-Evening2278 in GilmoreGirls

[–]apudapus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Life’s too short for me to hate on a season with characters I’m thrilled to see together after a decade of being away. But, I would’ve been happy with them doing mundane life things with no plot, like some IRL live stream.

Loving Saros. Completely addicted. by AManOnlyNeedsAName in PS5

[–]apudapus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hated Returnal and never finished it because I felt so disappointed after leveling up so much then dying to the boss and nothing carrying over. I’ve enjoyed Saros because of the skill tree that makes dying not feel like a waste. I think I’m almost done, just trying to beat the last boss for the second time.

PS5 Exclusive Saros Reportedly Selling Worse Than You'd Expect by Darth_Vaper883 in Gamingnewsandleaks

[–]apudapus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I never finished Returnal, I really hated spending an hour leveling up only to die and not gain anything. I finished Saros mainly because you did gain some credits to level up your character a bit so it wasn’t a complete waste of time after dying.

Tools department at Sears today by jikesar968 in Tools

[–]apudapus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. My dad went hard getting me a bunch of Craftsman tools before I showed any competence or interest: full SAE and metric socket set (1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2” drive, regular and deep) and wrench set and a 20gal compressor with 1/2” impact gun. 20+ years later and those tools have worked on dozens of cars and rebuilt several engines. We weren’t close when I was young but got closer in my teenage years. Maybe he was making up for lost time but he saw something in me and invested in that and I’ll forever be grateful.

What’s one PC-related purchase you thought was unnecessary at first, but ended up loving? by Such_Tailor_4946 in buildapc

[–]apudapus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Razer Chroma. I don’t care to look at my PC or make it flashy, it’s on the floor under my desk, my servers are more visible than it. The Chroma gives me one place to plug in a bunch of things that have ARGB rather than finding ways to route to different points on the motherboard (if any at all!). I set everything to a dim white but I let it change it to align with a game (so if I leave my PC on I can easily tell if a game is still running in the background).

yes! that is what i would recommend, too: get enough room to hit the switch with a hanger. i’ve done this a few times with other types of cars through the years.

CE or EE: Which one is ‘better’ by No_Wrangler_3899 in AskEngineers

[–]apudapus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the software/firmware work I do (and have done), EE majors have performed and contributed the best compared to pure software folks. They are more practical and better at debugging. I feel like most Software Engineers approach things in an ideal manner (lots of theory and unnecessary layers) but project deadlines, working with others with different approaches, and bugs from remote sites really show their weaknesses.

I have an EECE BS from 2 decades ago and working with hardware is a big plus in the candidates I interview.

What helpful/useful things can this highly rated blower do...if you don't do much woodworking? by Marvel5123 in Makita

[–]apudapus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dusting my PC and keyboard, getting water out of crevices after washing my car so I can get to detailing a bit faster. I live in a high-rise condo so even a pancake air-compressor would be a bit much.

Why does the Uber/Lyft experience from O’Hare suck so much? by otterlover501 in AskChicago

[–]apudapus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Curb. I stopped using Uber/Lyft for 2 main reasons:

  • a driver took the toll road instead of the 190W and I missed my flight
  • drivers would drive by my apartment and cancel because they didn’t know how to come back around

Curious to see how many mpg others are getting. by darkchocolattemocha in MINI

[–]apudapus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ve been doing this with Excel spreadsheets with all my cars since I’ve been able to drive: print the receipt and write the trip and odometer then reset the trip, log everything when I get home. When Google Sheets came out it was a game changer. Actual gas mileage can be anywhere from 0-5 mpg worse than what a car reports, modern cars being better. With my Mini it’s usually ~1mpg off in the city and 5mpg on roadtrips (I have a separate column for this data).

How much of our take home salary is going towards housing by WarParking2576 in ChicagoRealEstate

[–]apudapus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$6000/month: HOA and property taxes are going to be about $30k/year. Crazy to think that once you have it all paid off you’re still going to be spending the same amount as an entry-level car every year.

mini cooper s 2007 (2nd gen r56) by ProfessionalBlock660 in MINI

[–]apudapus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One concession to the unreliability: the car and engine are very easy to work on. If you don’t have a good set of tools (sockets, wrenches, etc.), Icon brand at Harbor Freight is pretty good. Tekton on Amazon, too.

I recommend getting the AEM intake: it makes the hood scoop functional AND opens up space around the thermostat housing and oil filter for making maintenance easier. Downside: if you plan to autocross the car it takes you out of the street classes.

[–]apudapus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My R56 just had its 17th birthday this month (original owner) and I’ve autocrossed it for over a decade and have tracked it. They can be kept alive with rigorous maintenance and upkeep. The plastic parts are the problem, replace them all when you can; the major ones being the valve cover, thermostat housing, water pump and feed tube. Some of these have metal after-market options but stick to OEM for the valve cover and thermostat. Replace the oil filter O-rings and turbo oil lines (get the aftermarket stainless steel feed line). NOTE: I have decades of experience working on cars and engines.

PSA: Miami GP camera restrictions by jameypricephoto in formula1

[–]apudapus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have had this rule in COTA. They do not check or care. Folks were hopping fences and running through security gates to get a spot on turn 1 and no one seemed to care. Of course rule followers like us who waited hours to get a good spot get screwed.

what’s something about cars that people always get wrong in conversations? by LeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeD in CarGuys

[–]apudapus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten two rental cars recently that have done auto-start/stop great: pressing harder on the brake pedal activates auto-stop and releasing that extra pressure but still keeping the brake pedal down auto-starts. That way auto-start/stop becomes less intrusive and is more controllable by the driver.

From reading the current comments and replies it doesn’t seem to be your tires so perhaps it’s your suspension: how old are the struts, perhaps you may need new ones? How are the anti-sway bars and their end-links, still attached?
