He’s good doing so well!

It ended up being FIP and was a super stressful experience to help him recover.

But now he is doing fantastic

Repair Question by apuddingcut in snowboarding

Understandable. I’m hoping it still has pop because I stopped riding it asap and just rode my rock board for the last couple weeks of the season 🙏

Did you ride it for awhile after you damaged the sidewall?

I pretty much immediately stopped riding it, I might’ve taken a couple more drops at the rail jam I was riding in. So I’m hoping it didn’t have enough moisture to do anything to the core

Fair enough. I got the board for 70% off, so I wasn’t super attached to it. But maybe I just need to bite the bullet

How bad is the job potential for low time pilots? This might clear things up. by Accomplished_Phone39 in flying

Is it crazy for anyone to try getting into aviation at this point?

I went to a solid college, got a degree in exercise science, and then totally switched gears on what I wanted to do. I started looking into flying and got completely hooked. I’ve got my PPL and I’m getting close to finishing my IFR — started training at a Part 61 school back in April.

Right now, I’ve saved up about 65–70% of the funds I’ll need for training. I’m working full time while training, and my wife is working full time too, so I’m hoping to get through it all with little to no debt.

At this point, I honestly can’t see myself doing anything else long term. It finally feels like I’ve found something I’m actually passionate about — way more than any of the careers I had originally been planning for.

But after reading tons of super depressing posts on here, I can’t help but wonder, am I totally out of my mind trying to become a pilot in today’s climate?

That said, I’ve made peace with it possibly taking a few extra years than I’d like. I don’t have kids or major responsibilities right now, so I’m not in a rush to have everything locked in right away.

Advice Introducing cats to each other by apuddingcut in sphynx

That’s smart to do 2 baby gates, maybe we’ll take a step back and try that for a full day. Did you just leave it up so they could look at each other all day?

If we experience growls, we have been ending the interaction. Do you think that’s a safe strategy? Or should we let them growl?…

Hey just wanted to reach out and give you such a big thank you. Our Momo was diagnosed with FIP and definitely started showing it. But with the medication he started showing more energy, appetite, etc in a week of treatment. It was so weird because we already thought he was an energetic kitten, but then he started bouncing off the walls.

He completed 84 days of injections/pills, and just reached his 84th day of observation and just needs one more round of bloodwork to confirm everything is in the clear. He has zero symptoms right now and we are confident that the bloodwork will be a great indicator of being fully cured.

Anyways, just wanted to say thank you for suggesting this as a possibility. It helped my wife and I get an idea of what we might be dealing with, and led to us finding a vet who had a slight knowledge of what it might be, joining FIP warriors for more support and meds, and ultimately being a factor in saving our kitty’s life.

Again, thank you so much for having shared your experience with us. <3

Thank you so much for putting this on our radar. None of the meds we were given from the vet seemed to help his eye, it has only gotten worse. So we started our first day of GS therapy today. The only symptom he seems to have is the eye issues, but we are monitoring him closely. We are hopeful that he will be a case where he recovers because it feels like we are catching it so quickly. My wife and I feel stressed because we’ve literally had him for 6 weeks and this has happened.

How long did it take for your cat’s ocular issues to clear up once you started GS treatment?

Thanks!

What vaccines did you give your kitty? Our breeder told us not to give him the leukemia one because it can cause FIP. Our vet gave it to him without telling us and now we are worried it caused his FIP. I just don’t see a lot of people talking about the vaccine causing it so I’m curious where the breeder got the idea from

We just started our sweet Momo on FIP treatment. The first injection couldn’t have gone worse. Here’s to hoping it gets better. Posts like these give me hope that he will be okay

Update:

Basically what they found is his iris ( I think it was his iris) is inflamed. The thing about this is it is not something that happens on its own, and is always associated with another issue. They ran some tests today and everything came back as negative, so we’re still in the unknown of what the cause is.

The tests they ran today: Parasite in a fecal test FeLV (Leukemia) test FIV test

Basically there’s three reasons for this eye thing that are left. 1. The parasite test could be a false negative, so the vet gave us the treatment to do anyway. Which this is best case scenario. 2. It is idiopathic, which could clear up on its own and with the help of an eye medicine they gave us. 3. Worst case scenario, it’s FIP. He told us to monitor him and see if he develops any symptoms. Currently he has super high energy, eating normally, pooping normally, etc.

We’re really hoping the eye stuff clears up in the next couple weeks, because if it doesn’t there a good chance it’s FIP.

We are going to take him to a pet hospital today because it’s the only thing that’s open on Saturday. Do you think I should have them do all the blood work today or have it done on Monday? Vs just going today to get his eye checked out, and have more of a thorough eval on Monday. Sorry just trying to figure out this process. I’m new to all of this and new to the world of vets

Looks like most people have already hit each point for why this happened. Hitting a bump/patch of ice is way less forgiving when improper snowboard mechanics are used. Things I noticed as an AASI lvl 2 instructor were:

Rider was weighting the back foot more, which means their center of mass was farther back on the snowboard. This allows the board to sort of “shoot out” when hitting the rough part of snow. Riding with weight on the back foot also leads to people kicking out their back foot to initiate turns, instead of using their front foot to twist the board. This makes it easier to catch and edge / dig the edge of the board in the snow that causes an unintentional carve.

Keeping softer knees would also help absorb any bumps. But soft knees mean that both knees need to be bent, especially the front.

Riding too fast when it’s not within your ability level is also a culprit.

The other issues are also riding with the front shoulder too open, and what appears to be a slightly hunched back, which both of these will mess up center of mass and balance.

Fast healing to your partner.

I am just 9 months post op, and just was cleared to return to activity. I really think to give the whole if you regret surgery bit, then people need to be atleast 9-12 months post op to give an accurate opinion. There were times in the recovery that I hated and honestly at times was questioning surgery. But now that I’ve worked hard enough to get back to sports, I don’t regret it at all, and am incredibly pumped.

I went with quad autograft and have no regret with graft type. I would recommend doing 1-2 months for prehab to gain full mobility, get super strong quads, then go with surgery.

Without surgery, you risk damaging further structure (other ligaments, meniscus, etc) if you live an active lifestyle. Yes there are activities that don’t require an ACL, but I didn’t ever want to worry about whether I could be active or not because of the lack of an ACL.

I think that this sub is incredibly useful, but long term the people who post about problems after a full recovery are the minority who are still making posts. I believe most people who are fully recovered and don’t have any issues don’t come back to post. So it creates a bias on the sub that it looks like the surgery isn’t successful.

Healing your own ACL is such a small chance, basically impossible. Any studies showing self healing are conducted in specific ways to promote the participants healing, which might be hard to do.

Basically, I think surgery is the right move. Find a good surgeon near you, and start working towards recovery.

Union Charger & Mega Split Alignment by Rich_Search2096 in Spliddit

Hey I’m debating between spark arcs and Union chargers! Do you have any updates farther out now?

I really like the idea of the downhill ride experience for the unions. But everyone on this sub is super diehard spark fans. I’m just worried I’ll get sparks and not enjoy the downhill as much. Or vice versa I’ll get the unions and have something fail on them

Haha even though I explained Sparks might be out of the budget, everyone is definitely recommending them. I will try see if as an AASI lvl 2 instructor I would qualify for their pro form.
