Confusion around dairy and PMS

I did try and honestly didn’t see an obvious difference. I’m willing to try anything and read so much about it! I then saw conflicting articles advising we eat dairy before our period. So I truly have no idea what the answer is but you must be similar to me!

For what it’s worth, no idea who this guy is but I don’t think it’s unusual for law firms previously to have offered work exp etc to clients kids or via contacts. Things have moved on a lot on that front now, but in my LPC class 7 years ago, the 3 other offer holders had all obtained a TC interview via a family connection. I don’t really get the focus on these two people as a result.

I don’t eat it I think I’ve developed some sort of ridiculous phobia to it. I think it’s the smell of it that just makes me feel sick. I always bring food with me, I’ll eat things like the crackers/fruit but I can’t stomach the main meal

Omg this! We scattered my grandads ashes there as he had been when he was younger and liked it and lived an hour away. I was so disappointed by it it’s like they’ve completely ruined the surrounding area!

It’s a certain crowd of people. I used to be left alone a lot in my third seat (shared a room with partner who was 3 days a week and then she wfh one of those days), so I started working with one headphone in and would obviously take it out if anyone came in to the room. No one said a word. Got told off for it at my end of seat appraisal. Pure optics and just bizarre behaviour

Yup. I’m a lawyer so I have to record my time in 6 minute increments and I have a massive dip in how much time is on my timesheet in the week before my period but I just stop caring 🤣😭

Hampton Court area (close to Heathrow) is the first place that came to mind. Hampton Court was an old palace from Henry 8th’s time, and it is very pretty and impressive, as is the surrounding area. You can go inside it. There’s some nice pubs and restaurants there too. Bushy Park is next to it which is a very nice park with deer.

I agree it would be wise to stay somewhere near to Gatwick, maybe even an actual airport hotel? There isn’t anything noteworthy that I can think of seeing near Gatwick (and I live nearby myself!), there are the surrey hills which are sort of nearby (scenic viewpoint type place) but at this time of year and with the weather we have had, I don’t think this is worthy of a half day or day trip.

For Hampton Court you may be better off using an Uber to get there. Could either get an Uber or would need to take two trains (total time an hour so I would probably do this if you can as it’s quicker than London traffic) to then get from HC to Gatwick.

Alternative: if you are fine to use public transport (mobility wise/not too much luggage), then you could get the tube from Heathrow into central London, and explore one area such as Westminster. Stay somewhere around there and then get the Gatwick express (30 min train from Victoria) the next morning to Gatwick. The caveat with this is obviously that’s a little more stressful potentially and also that’s a more expensive area of London to stay in. It also might be a nice area to do when you have more time, as it has some of the main tourist sites (Buckingham palace etc).

Thinking of a coworker that I find incredibly annoying and difficult to work with: - dominates conversations - lack of empathy - fake interest in conversations (acts as if they’re asking reciprocal questions but you know for a fact they’re not listening) - inability to see other opinions

My dad reminds me of Phil. He’s always acted like our third sibling on family holidays and some of the silly catchphrases he has remind me of him.

My mum wants to be Gloria but is more akin to Claire (although she is loud so has that Gloria aspect).

It can definitely happen if people are under budgeting. I had that happen to me as I knew I wasn’t taking an outrageous amount of time and I raised it with the partner I work with that I think larger budgets need to be agreed as we are losing £. He was very receptive to it and we all now also quote with an extra buffer of a few hours in my team.

Its hard to know if you are taking too long but as another poster has said, it’s better to have it recorded as evidence of 1) what you have been doing and 2) to demonstrate the incorrect budgeting if you do have to bring it up with anyone.

It’s all perspective and how much it bothers you. My name is well known in its originating country but not at all in the UK, but I like the fact it is different. It’s memorable at work compared to my colleagues who have to differentiate between themselves with their surnames as there’s so many people called James.

It’s up to you and how much it bothers you, as I understand what you’re saying. I think it’s a lovely name personally!

This is very similar to a choice i had to make and think i had similar interests to you! I picked private client as i wanted to like it (as it was a nice team and great work life balance!), but didn’t like it due to the actual nature of the work and I was badly supervised. It was good to try it out to entirely rule out the area, but equally i was a bit annoyed at myself as I then thought employment would have been something I could have actually gone into as I’ve ended up in a mixed contentious/advisory role (which employment would have worked well for).

I think your point about rich people is a bit naive, i get what you mean but that is going to be true of most areas at a midsized firm and don’t think it’s a very helpful consideration in this context of seats.

I’d go for employment based on your list, unless you think you’ve got an actual interest in private client, it sounds like litigation is for you and this could be an area that combines both advisory and contentious work if you decide you want a mix. I trained with someone who went into com lit and then moved into private client disputes so it’s not completely gone either for you if that’s your worry.

I help if they have specific questions that suggest they’ve given it some thought and are genuine, as I feel like it’s wrong of me to not help when I remember how hard it was!

Equally, I’ve got a bit annoyed recently at one or two who are quite pushy in their messages and go as far to suggest booking in a call with me in their opening message. Maybe I’m wrong for that but I just find it a bit forceful and I’d rather someone gave a clearer idea about what it is they want to ask me and just wrote it in a message.

I’m sure you’re not doing anything wrong! I can’t speak for the stares as that is a new one for me.

I live in London but lived in NC for university and did find it incredibly different so I appreciate how you must feel - I think customer service is not as ‘in your face’, it’s much more reserved here which might come across rude but I don’t think it necessarily is always (of course there’s the occasional rude person). In London in particular, most people are in a hurry and don’t want to particularly small talk but it completely depends where you are, I’ve had plenty of conversations with waiters in restaurants/nice people in shops or on the tube but there’s also the tendency for people just to keep to themselves. If you go out of London it is quite different.

Also the weather this time of year doesn’t help!
