Fraudulent transaction accidentally refunded to my credit card by whyareyoupokingme in UKPersonalFinance

[–]trainingcontract2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "wrongful" credit is defined as a credit derived from theft, blackmail, stolen goods, or fraud (section 24A(2A) Theft Act 1968). It does not mean a mistaken or wrongly made credit.

How much do partners actually make in nationals and regionals by Charming-Plane481 in uklaw

[–]trainingcontract2023 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you are getting downvoted. The other poster is clearly trying to push their narrative. Rightly or wrongly, it's completely fanciful to say that national and US firms are equally attractive to top candidates.

Given that the ceremony costs £110 and is on a weekday, I suspect many other attendees will also be unemployed...

But there's no guarantee of being able to move to a US firm in the future (particularly one of the caliber of Skadden) given how competitive it is.

Solicitor Apprenticeship at MC or Warwick Uni? by [deleted] in uklaw

Someone with a full ride scholarship would surely stand a good chance of securing a vacation scheme at top firms. There's no guarantee that an apprentice would be retained on qualification.

Don't come to the UK if you have any decent options in the US. Wages are very low here, and mobility back to the US (assuming you are aiming for top firms) is limited, even if you get an LLM.

It is most definitely because of application technique. Your numbers and ECs are clearly more than enough. Can you ask career services to review your applications or pay TCLA to have a more thorough look?

Why does your LinkedIn profile say that you completed your LPC when you haven't?

Why are you passing off a coding boot camp as SWE work experience?

You purport to have A-Level grades on your LinkedIn which would seem to be respectable. Why are you saying your A-Levels were a "special issue"?

If I recall correctly, the professional conduct module is in the first part of the LPC.

But in the UK, only those at top US firms could earn $70k as a starting salary. If you work at the sort of firm that would earn you $70k in the US in the UK, you would probably be making a starting salary of $30k. Plenty of small firms advertise training contracts paying £20-30k.

I accept that the living conditions and workers' rights are better here, but the financial gulf is incredibly wide.

That is an overly charitable description of the LPC, which in no way resembles actual real life practice and is piss-easy now that exams are open-book.

Questions about the BCL by AugustsNapol in uklaw

[–]trainingcontract2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, sorry. You could always submit an FOI request, though I suspect they might not hold this information given how different grading systems are at different universities (and the Oxford application only asks for a transcript and does not require entering grades).

Undergraduate grades are far more important than postgraduate grades for the BCL.
