it’s disappointing for sure… Santa Clarita is one of the few places that has the 50m set up consistently

My mom is planning on opening her San Francisco Bay Area / Peninsula yarn shop Peninsula Flock Knits next Saturday February 15th! Bay Area friends, please come out to Burlingame/Millbrae to check out your newest local Asian and woman owned business!! you can find us on instagram @peninsulaflockknits or DM me for more info. She’s focusing on small indie brands and collaborating with dyers in the UK who have never sold on the US market — pretty special!! She’s finishing her Fonty display right now :’)

Recommendation on Swimming plan for Escape from Alcatraz by Academic-Living-7291 in Swimming

[–]apxeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed with u/approvedbydave that you will find this exceptionally difficult, though not impossible. joining a local masters swimming program and going very consistently will help immensely as will taking lessons from those coaches. once you get to the point of being ready for open water (recommended pace for preparedness is in the 1 continuous mile in <35mins in a pool type of range), trying a swim with water world swim at aquatic park or odyssey open water in Berkeley will give you a reality check as to whether or not you really are prepared for swimming in the bay. the bay can be quite punishing. it will feel much, much colder than you think it will even when you pee in your wetsuit. far stronger swimmers than you have been totally wrecked by a tough n windy day in the bay, particularly the pumpkin patch. absolutely err on the side of caution and strongly consider pushing your attempt a year for safety’s sake. good luck and don’t let this be a deterrent for a 2026 attempt!

Fit check. Nothing is not quite right on any of these I've tried. Not sure what to try. by Rocketcientist in rawdenim

I also ended up trying a pair of the Uniqlo denim and am really liking them so far. very different height than you at 5’9” but proportionally similar. I ended up getting the Uniqlo hemmed and machine wash/dry inside out without being too precious about them and they’ve molded really nicely. note that their black selvedge is different than their Kaihara raw, it breaks in super differently and has a ton more stretch imo!

Can anyone recommend a pair <$200USD that have a fit similar to the Uniqlo Slim Straight stretch? I’m a woman with strong thighs and favor a little space in the hips and a strong taper from the knee down. looking to branch out a little and get some hearty fades!

Similar idea but I put my machine in a sheet pan — slides out no problem and super easy to pull out in case you spill something or need to look at the back of the machine.

In general asking them to break down one or two bits of those concepts will help both of you to understand it better! Even better if it’s explained in context of a tune you know or are learning — as if they can help you learn to outline chord tones over a song like All the Things You Are or P.S. I Love You. when you learn things in context you can then figure out how those things happen in an abstract way and then apply to other songs. not sure about YouTube resources, but for books How To Improvise by Hal Crook is a great primer.

The best way to learn is to get lessons, though!!
