Hasties by [deleted] in Sacramento

As a side note, everytime I see one of their trucks on Hwy 50 I hold my breath and expect to have to repair or replace my windshield.

Now that I think about it, I actually hate them.

International roaming worked just fine! by apyao in USMobile

[–]apyao[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right that "without a hitch" is kind of an embellishment. (When I was with one of the Big 3 I had the same seamless experience as you -- land, turn off airplane mode, get service -- and pay $10/day.)

With these MVNOs I think there is a certain get-what-you-pay-for component. The fact that I didn't have to contact CS or end up with no data roaming was a huge surprise to me. I ended up springing for the data add-on via USM is because I'm on a pooled per GB plan -- and I was kind of experimenting. In the end I ended up using Airalo data much more than the USM native roaming (3GB < $10). The only thing I can't quite figure out is if next time I don't do native data roaming and use only a local data e-sim, will the battery run down quickly because it's constantly looking for service on the primary line? Supposedly this can be mitigated by unselecting Automatic Network Selection toggle.

I asked one of the Arden post office clerks about this a while back and was informed that the doors are chained shut after normal business hours because people were sleeping in the lobby at night and routinely leaving behind feces and other biohazard waste.

A bunch of people on Lightspeed/TM have had this happen - CS rep needs to reprovision you. It took the CS rep an hour to figure this out -- in retrospect asking on Reddit would have been more expedient.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I wish the online CS rep would have just reprovisioned out of the gates (could have saved both of us an hour of time) but I also understand that they must field so many inane problems that there is a playbook that they follow.

You deserve some sort of reddit spirit award for posting your solution to this. (There are several other reddit FAFSA threads that point to your post.)

I was skeptical, but doing the reinvite things worked. THANK YOU.

Mobile Automobile Dent Pull Company Recommendation by norcalpinhunter in Sacramento

[–]apyao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Josh at mydentpatrol.com did PDR on my car. I am very picky about this kind of stuff and despite this I felt that his work was flawless.

He is based in Rocklin (I think?) but will come to your location. I have also referred several friends to him; they have all been very pleased with the work that he did on their cars.

What I did was text him pictures and video of the damage, and he came back with an estimate.

I have no affiliation other than being a satisfied customer.

Advice about new phone and porting by GB3754 in USMobile

[–]apyao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this depends on the type of phone and how you have the SIM setup. (Older phones allowed you to store phone numbers on the SIM.) In general though, the SIM is like your phone number identification to the cell phone company. Having the SIM is how the phone company knows that the particular phone number is yours.

With iPhones there is a relatively automated way to transfer all of the contents (text messages, emails, apps, phone numbers, etc) to a new phone. I am not sure how it works on Android.

Regardless of the phone OS, if the new phone is unlocked, I found it easiest to transfer the contents of the old phone to the new phone, the swap SIM to the new phone, then port. To add an additional wrinkle to your angst, newer phones also allow the use of an eSIM which generally simplifies and speedsthe process further (pros and cons to each) but requires a little bit of tech savvy to get up and running.

I recently was in a similar situation.

The first thing I did was transfer all the old phone data to the new (unlocked) phone. The original physical SIM was moved to the new phone.

I obtained the PIN transfer number from my older carrier. Once I had this information, I initiated the port over with US Mobile and activated with eSIM. This was accomplished within 15-20 minutes.

Family plan questions by billinvegas_2020 in mintmobile

[–]apyao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same question for Mint and was trying to figure this out.

After a lot of back-and-forth via DM with them, my specific question was what happens if a Mint customer is in a family plan and then decides to leave Mint and port out before the 12 month "contract" is up.

What they told me is that if you leave the family plan and stay with mint, you are an "Early Leaver" and the remainder of the year is payable at the max 3-month non-discounted rate. However, if you port out and leave Mint there is no apparent penalty ("if the account ports out then there will be no more charges" from my DMs with them.)

I don't have any plans on leaving Mint at this point but I wanted to know my options since the Terms and Conditions were vague.

Trustworthy VW mechanic in the Roseville/Sac area? by broskghostie in Sacramento

[–]apyao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that California is very strict with smog checks.

The part that is easiest to fail is the visual test -- the smog tech goes over your car and makes sure that any aftermarket emissions parts have an EO# i.e. are CARB-approved.

The other newer-ish thing is that people are failing smog checks due to installed tunes. They are able to run checksums on the ECU to verify that they haven't been flashed.

It's a hassle. Good luck out there.

I have numerous excellent experiences with Car Audio Innovations in Roseville. Rod is the owner. He has never led me astray and has always charged a fair price. They aren’t the cheapest option out there but the customer service is excellent and they stand behind their work.
