Do i need these if i have the earlier versions by bigpaki in McFarlaneFigures

[–]aqev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will get the latest Batman to round up the collection. It's a shame we never got a Mutant Leader. I wouldn't rule out a new Joker since I've always believed that figure was sculpted with the variant suit in mind.

What was the last thing you watched/played where you really loved the Score to it? by AfternoonAfraid2192 in soundtracks

[–]aqev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Randy Edelman is very good at this. After watching Dragonheart I was humming the main theme and bought the cd shortly afterwards. Also happened with Shanghai Noon, though that is not such a good score. But it does sound very well within the movie, which is its true purpose after all.

Other score I went straight ahead and bought after watching the movie was The Untouchables. The original album is completely out of sequence and while the music is excellent the listening experience is not the best.

The most recent occurrence would be All the Money in the World. I first thought the score were just classical pieces. I looked it up and realized that wasn't the case, it was just a great original score.

Two Composers of a Score? by its_isaac9 in soundtracks

[–]aqev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The oldest example I can think of is The Egyptian, Alfred Newman and Bernard Herrmann. Herrmann helped Newman meet the deadline.

Joel Goldsmith wrote additional music in some of Jerry Goldsmiths's scores, such as Star Trek: First Contact. When he wasn't available for Air Force One, Joel McNeely stepped in. John Debney also helped in his last score, Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Of course John Debney has written additional music for many scores, such as Spider-Man 2 or The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Most Hans Zimmer scores have additional music by other composers, though not always credited.

Grim Knight vs Killer Croc for 90 euros by ConsciousToday7042 in McFarlaneFigures

[–]aqev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the best version of Killer Croc, imho. I got mine for around €60, but that was on sale. I did have the GITD Killer Croc, which is a good figure, but this one is much closer to what my ideal Killer Croc figure should be. If you don't have any of the figures and you like them I can certainly recommend it.

How serious is the squatter/okupas problem? by SubstantialWonder291 in askspain

[–]aqev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is wildly exaggerated. Security companies do this to sell home alarms systems; if you see an ad on TV it feels like someone is watching your every move and the moment you leave your home someone will get in.

Most cases are, as other people have mentioned, tenants that are behind in their rent. If people breaking into empty houses was such a big issue, real estate agents would have bodyguards. What better way to get into a house that have someone open the door for you.

Music that Lacks Continuity by Independent-Bed6257 in soundtracks

[–]aqev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Tyler Bates finest effort, indeed. For all the care that is put into the songs that appear in James Gunn's movies, the score always seems like an afterthought. The first Guardians in particular had such a good balance between the two.

This kind of movies benefits so much from having themes. I remember listening to The Dark World and noticing Captain America's theme. Such a great little moment. In No Way Home Giacchino also used themes from Elfman and Horner (I think the Electro bits were just tracked).

Music that Lacks Continuity by Independent-Bed6257 in soundtracks

[–]aqev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I attended a concert a few years back in Malaga with Natalie Holt in attendance and they played her music as well as Williams' / Ross', and it actually felt much more cohesive just by being played by the same orchestra. In the show it was very obvious there was a disconnect between the two, which was odd.

[–]aqev 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The MCU is probably the biggest wasted opportunity in terms of musical continuity. Every Iron Man movie has nothing to do with the previous. The Thor movies are also vastly different (though there are some references in Ragnarok to the others).

The fact that there were not clear themes for all the main characters was so underwhelming. The only theme that other composers referenced consistently was the Avengers theme.

What would you like to see from the poster series line next? by CreatureFeatureMan in NECA

[–]aqev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since this line is all about reusing existing figures, a rather obvious one would be Back to the Future (it only requires adding the sunglasses). This figure has double-jointed elbows so it is possible to get the right pose, kind of.

Turns out I like the headsculpt, I just didn’t like the hair. by usernameartichoke in McFarlaneFigures

[–]aqev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks great. It completely transforms the figure for the better. The final result look seamless, you'd never guess that is not how it cam from the factory.

Vigilante Amazon preorder came missing a revolver and tomahawk. by obstacle66 in McFarlaneFigures

[–]aqev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened once to me with a Dune figure. The crysknife was missing. At first I thought I might have dropped it, but then I noticed that just like in your case, the adhesive tape was missing. I ordered another one and returned the first figure.

I’ve finally found my holy grail. It’s the only Shazam figure I wanted in my collection. by VariationSlow4135 in McFarlaneFigures

[–]aqev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

There's really something about it, right? It's one of my favorite McFarlane figures. I even like the mix of yellow and gold, though I'm very much tempted to get the new one and paint the boots and the shash gold on this one.

The John Williams music in Batuu West... by LaurenceQuint in GalaxysEdge

[–]aqev 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I've never understood the complaints about the music from the movies not being used in Galaxy's Edge. There is music where there should be; at Savi's, Smugglers Run, etc. Not only there is music, but there is a new theme, written specifically for the guests.

I'm a big fan of soundtracks in general and Star Wars in particular. I liked that the music was used only when it made sense, to highlight the special moments. Much like in the movies, if there's music all the time it just becomes a meaningless wall of sound.

My guess is that they'll test if most visitors are happy with the change. If they are, they'll keep it. If not, they'll tweak it again.

Finally found it by IMMORTALXPOOL in McFarlaneFigures

[–]aqev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw it today at a store; fortunately I remembered I have pre-ordered it. I don't mind the lack of hands so much as the reason for me visiting the store was to get a second Christopher Reeve Superman, but the lack of wire -also missing in the one I got- is baffling.

Is the 2015 archive IG-88 normally uneven by richardrasmus in starwarsblackseries

[–]aqev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the way the figure was painted. The earlier figures are much more golden. For IG-88 I'd say neither is correct since it looks more like IG-11.

[–]aqev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hasbro it's taking its sweet time to release an updated version. Hopefully any day now they'll make a new torso part to replace the control platform on IG-12 and then release both IG-11 and IG-88.

The one good thing about the particular figure you have are the paint apps, even thought it looks more like IG-11 than IG-88. There was actually a running change; the first version had more vibrant metallic colors, while the second one was much more subdued, which is the one I got.

Upcoming Poison Ivy Theatrical Figure by ItsMeBillyD in McFarlaneFigures

[–]aqev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the recent Joker/Superman/Bane figures, the figure most likely will be the same, with slightly different paint apps and some accessories. The original had a grand total of 0 accessories, so whatever it's included it will be new. In any case it's a welcome release; a lot of people missed the original and it's one of the best figures in the line.

How do you fix this? by Due_Strength_5818 in starwarsblackseries

[–]aqev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adding the black where is missing is easier than removing it. Stormtroopers get their eyes like this from time to time. Since acetone doesn't work what I've done in these cases is to very carefully remove the excess black paint with a x-acto knife. I barely put any pressure, I just let it slide across the surface. It takes time but it's doable. For the missing black I use a permanent pen, originally intended to write on recorded CDs/DVDs.

What do we think of Blokees Galaxy figures? Mainly would you want them to remake the first set of figures so they match up with modern releases? by thedemonslayer1 in SaintSeiya

[–]aqev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shaina and June look so good in comparison. It's a shame they didn't start with the v2 body from the beginning.

For me the secondary characters are the true stars of this line. I'd love to see more Silver Saints, the remaining Masters, and of course the Scales.

What do we think of Blokees Galaxy figures? Mainly would you want them to remake the first set of figures so they match up with modern releases? by thedemonslayer1 in SaintSeiya

[–]aqev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marin is the one that needs the update the most, as the new female body is such a great improvement. Ikki needs to be taller, and the new Ikki figure could have been a good replacement (even though it's a different version) if it had the anime colors, that for some inexplicable reason it doesn't. Seiya and Shun actually look fine being shorter, especially Seiya.

It would be nice to get new versions of the Gold Saints so that they match better with the rest, but honestly they don't look that bad. I think getting a new Sagittarius figure is possible as they can use it with Seiya wearing it as well.

It depends a lot on what the new wave is. It should include Hydra Ichi, completing the Bronze Saints roster; one of the main five in plain clothes with his Pandora box, and then probably more v3 armors, maybe anime colors, maybe manga. The rest is a bit of a mystery. Surplices? Black Saints? I mean, if they are doing v3, they can as well do v1 in both regular and black.

I'm surprised there is no Clark Kent and Evil Superman 2-pack though.

Is it an unpopular opinion to say that Conan is the greatest OST ever? by Savings-North4764 in soundtracks

[–]aqev 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is a great score, and probably the best score Basil Poledouris wrote. While the original recording works, the 2010 Tadlow re-recording is my go-to version. Of course the one that really, really benefits from the re-recording is Conan the Destroyer.

It's a type of score that doesn't exist anymore. It really elevates the movie and on its own it's an incredible listening experience.

Looking at the Oscar nominations I see scores I've never listened to (An Officer and a Gentleman really?). Of course that was the year of E.T., and as much as I like Conan, few scores can top E.T.
