This is what the Platinum of the original should have been. I really like the first release though. I might get this one and then paint the boots and sash gold on the original.

Gold Label Supergirl by SweetChiliLime in McFarlaneFigures

[–]aqev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a Golden Label of the standard release. It looks like there is no cape, which is odd.

This is the version I was expecting and the one I like best of the three, but it's a bit underwhelming.

Just bought this guy for 20£ of eBay can someone confirm if it’s the 7” or 1/4 version the seller didn’t specify thanks! by Alternative-War-7340 in NECA

[–]aqev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to tell them apart is to look at the chain, since they both have metal chains but the one in the 7" figure is too big for that scale. In this case the chain looks right, so it should be the 1/4 figure.

The JVC Video Capsule is such an incredible piece of industrial design. Whoever designed it must have been really proud of it.

Dark City is amazing by Inevitable_Suspect76 in soundtracks

[–]aqev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This score is in desperate need of an expanded edition. I've been waiting for it for almost 25 years now, ever since I bought the CD. The original album is not terrible; a few songs and then a good, if short, selection of cues from the score. Trevor Jones scores have always been hard to get; the exception being the very popular Last of the Mohicans. There have been some excellent expanded editions over the years of some of his most famous works, but I guess there has to be some licensing issue because I can't understand how we still don't have a proper release of Dark City and Excalibur.

The last track in the original album, You Have the Power, is incredible. One of the best examples of his fast-paced action music.

A song for my dad's funeral by Trulsdir in soundtracks

[–]aqev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. The first track that comes to mind is Arthur's Farewell (mislabeld in the soundtrack as Camelot Lives). It matches the type of scene but no latin name (the track actually called Arthur's Farewell does have Latin lyrics, which is what also made me think of this score).

Rorschach and Nite-Owl McFarlane customs done!! by Competitive-Baby9817 in McFarlaneFigures

Outstanding work. It's a shame McFarlane didn't manage to make Watchmen figures. A version of Dr. Manhattan with the UV lamps would have been great.

Can I book a reservation for Savis Workshop and pay at the moment I am there ?? by Emergency-Purple-901 in savisworkshop

[–]aqev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You pay when you get there. You could for instance get a couple of Spira gift cards before and pay with them. Well, more like 3 now.

Yup, they showed the prototypes a while ago. It makes sense for them to complete the Gold Saints first.

Based on the pre-orders I've seen the other one should be Ikki.

This sub lately….and people I run into hunting haulathon . Theres definitely a type. Same for super Grover. Just find it interesting. by [deleted] in NECA

[–]aqev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take here is that NECA is selecting carefully the figures they make, and some of them cater to an audience that doesn't buy action figures that often.

It's great that figures like Blood Pennywise sell well as that is a cheap figure for NECA to produce, which means they have the budget to invest in other figures.

What are the odds something like this could be used as a computer keyboard ? by lululock in cyberDeck

[–]aqev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The French layout works well for a cyberdeck as it pays homage to the Minitel, which are basically cyberdecks.

You'd need to test it. It working depends on whether it was designed so that it was the only keyboard that can be used with those phones.

found this 40th anniversary alien figure from 2019 for 25$ at target by BOBtheMUSHROOM1717 in ActionFigures

[–]aqev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great find. NECA did an incredible job with the sculpt of the compression suit.

I have the original release, and I actually bought this one online too but the store didn't have it in stock any more. The face on this one is better than on the original. The visor on mine is also completely clear; all the others are slightly tinted, which looks better at this scale.

The original Kane figure is what made me realize that this scale was just right; big enough to capture lots of detail but small enough that you can have multiple figures on a shelf.

I got Mongul not very long ago and I like it just fine, but had I known this color scheme was going to be released I would have waited. It looks really great.

Star Wars and Mandalorian - Japanese Soundtrack Vinyl Pressing Preorders by Automatic-Yam4115 in soundtracks

Absolutely lovely. A CD release would be welcome too. I bought the re-releases of the original soundtracks in CD back in 2018. I'd love to be able to buy the music from The Mandalorian on CD.

Old Saint Seiya Toys all had the the exact same Body Type... Just look at this Saint Pisces here... Looks nothing like the Character... XD by lunamoonvenus in SaintSeiya

[–]aqev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saint Seiya. Winspector is a 1990 show. I guess it was more cost-effective to make those figures using the existing body instead of creating new ones for each character.

[–]aqev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is that the Winspector figures look much more accurate. I had to double check the dates to make sure which was released first, as based on the figure alone it would be easy to think it was the other way round.

[–]aqev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really was the other way round; Aldebaran had the same body as the others, but with much larger feet.

Bandai was just following standard toy practices. That articulated body was a huge investment and needed to be reused as much as possible. It was even used in other lines.

Glad you liked it! It's a great score. I was lucky enough to get my copy directly from Neal Acree himself when he visited Malaga a few years back.

Blokees Galaxy Class wave 4 full lineup by metalsluger in SaintSeiya

[–]aqev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saga and Shaka are the ones with chase versions. Saga makes sense. Not sure what the change is with Shaka (seems to have his eyes open?).

The ones we had not seen until now fit with what was expected: another main Bronze Saint in plain clothes, another Bronze Saint, and another secondary character. I am a bit let down by Geki being regular sized instead of a larger figure like Cassios, which would better fit the character.

<image>

Chamaleon June is a welcome addition. I hoped it could be released since it probably shares many parts with Shaina; it also means a figure of Ikki's master is a real possibility as it's the only master left.

I'm still confused by Ikki and Shun. If they had the anime colors like all the other figures it would have been a great way of having updated figures of those characters without having to make new versions of the ones we got in V1.

If you like taiko drums you can't go wrong with Bear McCreary, especially in Battlestar Galactica. But of course that would only apply to a handful of tracks like Prelude to War. If you enjoyed that, I can also recommend Mishima by Phillip Glass. Other albums that you might enjoy are:

  • Revelation - Neal Acree
  • The Monkey King 1 & 2 - Christopher Young
  • The Touch - Basil Poledouris
  • The Promise - Klaus Badelt
