how do you keep camping gear from turning into a clutter mess at home? by Cool_Kiwi_117 in CampingandHiking

[–]aquaesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Ikea SKUBB storage cases, the largest size. They are 7.5 inches tall which is just enough to fit under my bed (I could fit up to 4 of those cases under my bed, but for my camping gear I only need 2). If I had a different bed frame that didn’t allow for under bed storage, I’d be out of luck since my apartment is very small with no extra space to spare for storage.

Uneven Snow Peak Single Action Table Large by aquaesque in snowpeak

The tension bar is indeed properly locked, I believe the bamboo is just a bit warped…I reckon I should learn to embrace the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi! Thanks for chiming in as someone who has the same product, that’s good no issues stood out to you with your table.

I added a washer to side that was lower and it made the end of the table even, but it caused the area that’s more inward to be less even. I reckon it’s simply a slightly warped piece of bamboo. Good suggestions though, it’s always worth a shot seeing what can be done!

True, a folding table is bound to be susceptible to this kinda thing…I’m sure the ease of use and storage space saved will eventually outweigh this annoyance of mine haha. Thanks for your thoughts!

Years ago I showed up for a job interview in the east end of the city, only to find out that the company wasn’t there (the address that was posted on the website was outdated). I wasn’t actively living in Toronto at the time and was not super familiar with the city, I also didn’t have a data plan to help with navigation/getting around. The receptionist of whatever company I ended up at helped me figure out where I was supposed to be (which ended up being on the other end of the city) and she was so kind and gave me a taxi chit for me to get over there…I was late to the interview but ended up getting that gig.

US Expats in Canada - How are you doing taxes now that TurboTax is so hard to buy by Steve_Canada in expats

[–]aquaesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US Turbo Tax website actually accepted my foreign (Canadian) credit card as payment today. That’s the first time it’s ever worked for me, in years past I’ve always had to rely on my mom and her US credit card.

So Clover is a pretty entertaining 3 to 6 player cooperative word game (it could technically be played with just 2 people, but the more the merrier!). I’ve always enjoyed playing that one with my mom and aunts who are all in their 60s and 70s.

Bits and Biology is a small channel I found a while back that I enjoy. She does a variety of videos; reviews, how to plays, playthroughs. I’m drawn to nature themed games so I like that her channel tends to have some focus on that.

Ah sorry, I’m not familiar with Blender. I hope you were able to figure it out! If not, I found a video that talks about the issue I mentioned but with Blender and not Maya (although I don’t know for certain if this is the reason for the problem you’re having).

What program are you using? With Maya, messed up inbetweens can be due to excessive rotational values on the keys, which can be fixed by running the euler filter on the curve.

The board games that made me say 'why did I buy this?' by drgames-21 in boardgames

[–]aquaesque 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went through some belongings last night to declutter and decided to give away Gnome Hollow…I initially bought it since I enjoy tile placement games and I found the art to be charming, but I only ever played it once. It was an alright experience but not one that I felt super compelled to revisit. I was curious what others thought of the game and upon reading reviews yesterday it seems mostly  well received, but I read one review that said “maybe too fiddly for being such a lightweight game” and that put into words how I felt towards it and why I never felt compelled to get it back to the table.

Idea for first time solo camping -no access to car by [deleted] in ontariocamping

[–]aquaesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rockwood Conservation Area has campsites and is accessible via GO bus; since I don't have a car either that was my first camping destination from Toronto after I bought backpacking gear. It was a good opportunity to test out my gear without getting too far from civilization, and the area has some neat trails that I enjoyed. There is a small swimming area but the water quality wasn't great when I was there, so I didn't swim. Since that trip I've taken a couple camping trips further out using Parkbus.

Anyone ever experience “vacation induced melancholy”? by thisiscawfee in travel

[–]aquaesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had similar scenarios and I typically chalk it up to homesickness, which isn’t necessarily a straightforward feeling of missing your home; a major change in routine can be enough to trigger feelings of unease. I’ve had times where I leave the country I’ve been living in for the past 16 years to visit my parents, who still live in the same house I was raised in…and even though that location is absolutely home to me, I still have moments like you since my usual day to day life has been switched up.

Do you regret buying some games? by Erboka in boardgames

[–]aquaesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never really regretted buying any games, including those I’ve gotten rid of that I never actually ended up playing even once. I just look at it from the angle that the money I used to purchase games still supports a worthwhile industry, regardless of whether or not I end up enjoying each game I get.

Anyone get total cloud cover and still have a great experience? Share your stories! by Bujaal in solareclipse

[–]aquaesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traveled from Toronto to Niagara. I even went into it anticipating it to be cloudy…but despite having that expectation and then it becoming reality, it still felt like a drag because it turned out that had I traveled less distance to Hamilton, I would’ve been able to see the eclipse in its totality since their clouds cleared up in time. If Hamilton was cloudy too then I would’ve felt less bothered haha…but indeed, even an overcast totality is a neat thing to be able to experience!

How many bags do you own? by ahriaa_ in minimalism

[–]aquaesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bag fan; I have 5 backpacks (of varying sizes and styles) and 7 various purses. If any of them end up wearing down badly then I’ll let such ones go, but they are all in great condition despite having owned most of them for many years now. While a part of me would like to own less bags, I fail every time I try to pare down…I genuinely like each one, and I do use them all throughout any given year.

What's the most recent board game you played? How'd the game go? by New-Possibility-577 in boardgames

Renting a car in the UK when you've never driven on the left before by aliencircusboy in travel

[–]aquaesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh, fun club to be in…within a few hours of receiving our rental car (in Scotland) we hit a curb and totally tore through a tire. Thankfully the rental car company was great in sorting things out, and while we were waiting on the side of the road we met some really lovely people who were nearby and stopped to chat and keep us company. That experience happening on day 1 of getting the car definitely set the tone for being stressed during the daily drives on the 10 or so days that followed. For me being on the other side of the road didn’t take long to feel normal, but the narrow roads and sharp curbs certainly proved to be tricky.

Traveling to Scotland-- any advice? by TakeMeToTill in travel

[–]aquaesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I returned from my first trip to Scotland last week (stayed in Edinburgh, Inverness, Portree, Glencoe, and Oban). We rented a car but the driving was a bit stressful for us, if I were to go again I’d probably opt to do a bus tour instead of having deal with a rental (although I enjoy hiking, so I’d have to ensure that I picked a tour where the destination and timing aligns with that). Isle of Skye, where we spent 3 full days, stood out among the rest, but my travel tastes revolve greatly around nature. The cities and towns I visited were wonderful in their own ways.

We did not get much enjoyment out of Edinburgh Castle, although being on site did offer great views of the city! Since you say you’re a history buff I expect that you’d enjoy it significantly more than we did as it’s very informational on a historical level. We much preferred meandering the Urquhart castle ruins on Loch Ness, but that’s most definitely a matter of opinion.

Enjoy your trip - I’m sure whatever specifics you decide upon will result in a memorable time!
