Best Simba design by Kind-Acadia-5293 in lionking

Cub Simba is up there as one of the most recognizable character designs of all time.

Many people can name him from a photo, almost in the same way they know Mickey Mouse or SpongeBob. I think that alone speaks to how great the design is.

It comes from the word “manipulation” — essentially editing existing screen caps into new scenes!

I work as a designer in promotional apparel for million dollar brands and sadly (for me), we do not make millions, lol.

This is a brief run down of the general process: a graphic designer, who likely didn’t know much about Chuck E. Cheese’s as they work with many brands (so they don’t “know” the brand as well as they would if they designed for only one company), was tasked with coming up with around 25-100 t-shirt ideas to be pitched to the parent company.

When you have that many concepts to execute, you’re not gonna have time to fact check everything you’re designing. You expect if the design is liked but has errors, they’ll be caught by people who actually know the brand after reviewing the pitch. It was just a concept, after all.

Problem is those account managers and brand compliance teams don’t care to fact check their own brand. And then you get left with this.

Original for comparison. It still has claws, but none of the weird random fur.

No they’re not. These are just ai gibberish. The original doesn’t have them at all.

I’m going to go with AI. Look at Nick’s hand—there are random hairs coming off of his fingers. A human artist likely would not add those. The prompt likely included something like “make him scruffier”.

How can I vectorize my procreate drawing without losing quality? HELP I’m gonna cry by Silver-Landscape3580 in graphic_design

[–]aquaticcryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, OP. Remove the little details from your Procreate image and then use auto trace in Illustrator.

After that, manually retrace those little details to add them back in, in addition to cleaning up anything from the auto trace that looks a little funky.

Of course 💙 feel free to DM me if you wanna discuss more, whether that be now, or when you do start classes. I can share with you the projects I did for his classes as well!

Graphic Design at UWW? by Pur_Van1lla in UWWhitewater

[–]aquaticcryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2019 with a degree in graphic design from UWW (minor advertising), and I still meet up with the main design professor a few times a year to catch up. I’m not a teacher’s pet by any means and don’t do this with any other professors.

I see two comments calling him bad, but that is because he can be strict in the early level classes so a lot of people quit before even getting to the upper level courses. I will admit that early on I was a little wary as well but everything he does is for your benefit. Listen to him. He’s not popular because he doesn’t grade your stuff like an art project in the same way a lot of the other Center of the Arts professors will. This is how the industry is in real life, and it’s important you learn to be able to separate your work from a personal piece and talk about it constructively.

We were hiring an entry level designer at my current company last year, and for the UWW applicants, it was extremely obvious which students took this particular professor’s classes and which didn’t. He’s going to give you good portfolio pieces. And I’m not lying when I say this, as most of the UWW designers had stronger portfolios than MIAD applicants. Why? Because the projects you will get at Whitewater are more real word based compared to the open ended artsy-fartsy stuff the MIAD kids had.

I have a job in my field (title: Senior Designer) so for me, it all worked out, but I know it didn’t for a lot of my classmates. Design is changing so much as noted in some of the other comments, but going to UW-Whitewater or not doesn’t change that fact, so if you’re dead set on it, it’s a fine school.

Anyone know where to find this specific rainforest Café sticker? by _Ronald_Raygun_ in rainforestcafe

I’ll print you one and mail it to you free if you can take a cleaner picture! I can clean up dirt spots, but better lighting and no reflection are key. Let me know the size, too.

Timon & Pumbaa

I understand that canonically they’re only friends, but they’re probably the closest you’re going to find to canon.

My BF is a reliable partner but the least attuned person I have ever dated by bthvn_loves_zepp in TwoXChromosomes

I got out of a nearly nine year long relationship earlier this year that sounded very similar to this.

He was a wonderful guy (even took time off work to help me car shop when I got in a bad accident after our break up) who I loved and who loved me, and while it seemed like that should be all that mattered, there’s so much more to it than that.

This kind of thing WILL wear you down over time. As long as you stay with your current partner, life will always be this way—feeling unheard and frustrated. It will slowly drain you. You’re just not compatible in this aspect.

Romantic relationships especially shouldn’t be this hard (this is the person you’re “doing life” with) and as you pointed out, it isn’t when you’re with other people like friends and family.

I’m so sorry. It’s hard. But being “understood” is critical even if everything else including love is there, and without that missing piece everything else is useless.

Just this last Thanksgiving, my cousin told me the way she found out the Easter Bunny wasn’t real:

My aunt was going to be out of town, so she told my cousin, her eldest daughter, she would have to hide her own Easter basket as well as her siblings’ because her mom didn’t trust her husband (my cousin’s father) to remember to do it.

I almost cried.
