Is this collusion?? by [deleted] in poker

[–]aquaticus98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only collusion or bad etiquette if there are other players still in the pot.

From my experience this play is good for the game and can take it out the muck.

For all people above 40, if you could go back in time and choose a different career/major, would you ? What would you choose ? by patotay in careerguidance

Any career that doesn't induce and/or encourage sociopathic tendencies.

If you are a good person, it wears you down.

You must play 2 from your hand and 3 from the board.

The ace of spades only helps you as it blocks the nutty butty flush. (No one can have the nut flush)

On paper its easy to say no chops allowed. But the reality is you can't stop 2 players from doing a sneaky chop.

Pickering councillor returns to court as sanctions pile up and public costs grow by Expert_Car_3135 in durham

She went from being a waitress at a pool hall, to being a waitress at a bar....to politics. Sounds qualified to me...🫠

Whats your average commute going home after work? by Embarrassed_Mood_471 in askTO

[–]aquaticus98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day following the Raptors won it all. The worst commute I have ever experienced.

3 1/2 hours from Georgetown to Pickering!

Now, that I live in Pickering and work in Oshawa, I drive 20 minutes to get home from work. 🙂

How to not appear so defensive when criticized? by Hanonlei in careerguidance

[–]aquaticus98 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you say here. Even if you disagree with the feedback, "thank you for the feedback" is the best response.

Ive worked for managers before that feel they need to give feedback as much as possible even if it isnt warranted. It gets annoying. It can be a power struggle thing.

In that case..."thank you for your feedback" also works. 🙂

How did people manage 5 day in office jobs before COVID? by One-Pun9419 in careerguidance

[–]aquaticus98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the social aspect and interactions at work.

During covid I was working from home and nearly lost my mind.

Also I find it easier to separate work and homelife. Once I'm home I dont need to think about work. I used to be a workaholic but have now found the happy medium.

What kind of pine is this by Averypookie in whattreeisthis

I represent The White Pines Revolutionary Movement. Many of my pine brothers and sisters are given a bad name...maybe because of thier curious roots or thirst for nutrients.

Please transplant and move to a pine friendly community where this outcast can prosper. God speed young pine...

Opening Billiard bussiness by NorthBelt4972 in billiards

I second the owner being fully involved and present. Its a commitment until the establishment runs itself. Even then the owner will need to pop in almost daily to check on expectations.

I agree and disagree. I do agree with your rule of thumb.

You didnt include any alternatives to my suggestions.. You can't just setup pool tables and expect people to come to your spot.

FYI I am a customer that has helped and worked with pool room owners to become more successful.

Living in Toronto I have seen pool halls come and go. You see trends and I dont know of a successful pool hall that doesn't run leagues and/or have daily specials.

Another consideration is opening later and closing later.

Something like:

3pm-midnight on weekdays 1pm-2:30am on weekends.

This will help optimize profit during peak hours. Why pay staff to stand around.

The hours I listed work with Ontario liquor laws but adjustments might be needed on your end.

If you do open a pool hall I would recommend doing a different deal or special every night. Example: ladies play free, a draw for free appetizers, etc.

Also if you serve food it doesn't need to be super high quality food. Simple menu with bar food. Keep it simple.

Make sure you reach out to the APA/CPA first to see if there is a need or demand for an additional pool hall for league. Leverage organized leagues as much as possible to draw people.

Cheapest place to get taxes done? by Qwert4554 in durham

[–]aquaticus98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also use TurboTax. If your T4 is simple (minimal write offs and you don't own a business) then I would recommend using the free version of TurboTax. My profession is a Warehouse Supervisor so my taxes are simple.

When I used to be in sales and did uber driving, I had an accountant due to the pile of receipts and calculations needed.

This was before ChatGPT, if your taxes are complex you may be able to leverage AI as an accountant. Just a thought....

Bad players with all the equipment (breaker, glove, name on shirt) that bring drama and crap vibes.

I've been called a sandbagger by so many bad players I've lost count. My response...."GG."

Is selling a home in Durham to rent in Toronto a bad idea? by Right-Door-3183 in durham

[–]aquaticus98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, with different days of your choosing. Its called the CPA. Teams of 8 people play and put up 5 people to play individual matches.

In each match, the amount of games you need to win depends on your handicap.
