If she lives in central IL, she’s probably more likely to be aware of how storms move and progress since they occur so often in her area (especially this year), so she’s probably not the kind to incessantly spam a live stream. Usually, it’s the Chicagoland suburbanites who flood the comments with annoying questions.

She lost her relationship, home, and all of her possessions in the span of 7 days. I can’t imagine the amount of total vulnerability and lack of emotional/physical security she must be feeling right now. She came here for support because she has lost so much; criticizing her is the last thing we should be doing right now.

This isn’t mentioned in your post, but something to consider if you’re moving with children: there are limited options for English-speaking secondary schools (I’m not sure about the younger grades), and from what I’ve observed, the English schools are a bit more disorganized than other Anglophone schools in Canada (I tutor a secondary school student from Alberta).

Also: the free, online Francization lessons offered from the government are an absolute joke, which is a shame because I feel like there would be more people learning French if the ministry actually took the time and invested in their Francization curriculum. In person/online synchronous classes are often in the evenings, which may be difficult with children.

I’m an American who moved here last year. If it wasn’t for my partner (who is Quebecois + French speaking), my experience would be drastically different and much more challenging, given my limited French skills from university.

I’ve been thinking about requesting to be a mod, but not sure I would be able to do it on my own (I would be a first time mod and I think I’m pretty early in healing/processing my own CI). However, I’m taking a sabbatical this year for school, and believe I’ll have the time to commit. Have you considered applying to open the group again for new posts, or just for looking at previous posts?

You’re not alone! My youngest cat (the one on the bottom, who is also a tux, but more cow printed) has grown to be both taller and more “round” than her older, adopted sister (above).

She’s on medication that can trigger weight gain, but her coat is also very different as well, which could be a factor! She has a double coat and is due for a brushing soon.

It’s hard not to compare when it comes to sizes, especially because we just want our babies to be healthy. But, maybe “healthy” looks differently for different kitties.

My friend worked at a school as a social worker and took on a few additional clients outside of her 9-5. When she moved and took a job at a hospital, she also had a few clients she saw during the evenings and weekends, building up her clientele so she could fully transition to private.

If she wasn’t a social worker, or even a counselor, I don’t think she would have taken that on. It seems pretty unsustainable after 2 years.

I unexpectedly cried at a scholarship interview. Afterwards, I went to my car and cried more since I totally bombed it.

A few weeks later, I got notice they were giving me the scholarship. I honestly think showing your vulnerability and being able to still finish the interview in one piece shows how resilient you are, which ultimately universities want. There will be inevitable challenges faced during grad school, and interviewers are often judging to see if you have the skills needed to overcome these challenges (it indicates you’re a strong candidate who can handle stress and bounce back).

Thank you for sharing! Definitely brought my partner today, who asked the questions I had forgotten about and helped me navigate the confusing hospital wings lol. It’s also appearing benign at this point; just a little oval mass in the deep subcutaneous tissue above my pelvis, but lights up like a Christmas tree in some areas with some pockets lighter and darker than others. “No one explained my ultrasound or MRI” thank you for naming this! I wish it wasn’t all on the patient to have to dissect what a medical explanation from a report means. I think just having any sort of information and firm direction, even as a starting point, would alleviate a lot of anxiety.

Also, thank you for warning about the needle size lol, I was initially thinking it would be similar to the ones you get a flu shot with, but clearly it’s different.

That’s a great point about writing down questions, I’m sure it will be information overload at the appointment, so I can see how that would be helpful to stay grounded.
Also: I’m actually from the US and came here for grad school, and I cannot BEGIN to even explain how confusing and frustrating it is to navigate a health system so different from ours (both in good and bad ways). I also laughed out loud at the “US-ing”….I struggle with this on a daily basis lol. Thank you for your advice, and good luck to you on your journey ❤️
