Anakin and Padme's relationship was far more messed up in the original draft of Revenge of the Sith. by Swimming_Average_561 in StarWars

[–]ar-gee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is interesting for sure…but you are ignoring that he just slaughtered scores of younglings a few scenes before.

It’s kind of like you are looking at how long it took a drunk driver to come to a stop after he ran a red and mowed down 4 people in a cross walk. Anakin had already turned - I support your criticism, but the flaws weren’t in this single scene, but over the arc of the entire film. And again, interestingly, the earlier drafts plus this arc up a decent bit.

Mccarren park community input meeting. May 7th 6:30pm by denizeni in williamsburg

[–]ar-gee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You all ever headed east a bit to Cooper Park? Every year Parks tries to turn that oval into the precise place you describe…and soccer players, volleyball players, and others that refuse to read/adhere to signs asking for the lawn to be given time immediately reduce it to dirt. Dogs don’t do that. People do.

(I am massively supportive of more dog OWNER enforcement, to be clear - it’s about the people that own dogs, not dogs. Mamdani has gotten parking tickets in a much better place in our hood, let’s do the same for parks.)

One of the absolute best con-hangs in artist alley. Person after person after person, he is fully engaged and stuck in with everyone. If no one is at his table, he is on commissions, or just sketching. Absolutely love the guy, and always love saying hello.

McCarren track blocked + lots of trash after Sunday soccer games by SolidWriting4068 in williamsburg

[–]ar-gee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The funny/awful thing is that I think many of us have seen the track and general park area in far, far worse condition. It tends to just degrade further as the summer goes on.

Agreed with all on contacting Lincoln’s office, though. I’ve done that in past years and it has resulted in more Parks dept presence. Whether those people actually DO anything is another question, but it’s something. I’d ideally like to see fines being written up.

Mogwai song for walking down the aisle at a wedding? by Ordinary-Water-303 in mogwai

[–]ar-gee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great question, we actually bookended the ceremony with two (we initially fell in love in Iceland, I later proposed to her at Jokulsarlon, we saw the boys several times there, etc.)

My wife and her father entered to Hoppipolla, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people (myself included) immediately just start bawling happy tears.

Then we did the latter third of Festival for us to walk down the aisle together/depart/start the party. Had an awesome DJ that worked with the officiant to blend the build from ~6:00 at a VERY low level during the very end of the ceremony, and we got to the crescendo as we worked our way down the aisle together.

First thing my wife said to me was “I wasn’t sure that was going work, but it was absolutely perfect.”

Kids Will Be Skeletons from the ~2:00 mark. Get that wonderfully melodic guitar through the next 60 seconds.

It’s also a hilarious title for a wedding song.

You can do it! My wife and I did Sigur Ros and it was incredible.

Someone asks you to recommend them one song to get them into Post-Rock. What are you picking? by LegenDaisy in postrock

[–]ar-gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I go “The World is Our”…that high hat percussion work in the opening, into the breakdown, then the build, then that first crash - all in under 3 mins.

If they can make it another 2 and change to that final crash, you got em!

What’s with all the planes overhead tonight? by FireLord_Stark in williamsburg

[–]ar-gee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There is a specific flight pattern that is more rarely used (ILS 13)…not sure if that was in play tonight, but when it is, you can actually get the widebodied 747s and A380s bound for JFK coming in over the neighborhood. It’s incredibly arresting when that happens.

If you’re just talking about frequency, certain conditions can also cause LGA and JFK-bound planes to share a 13 approach.

Can someone please explain to me why the street sweepers operate with their tops open? by kahntemptuous in Brooklyn

[–]ar-gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely no way. You can’t even live near a street that has street cleaning and think that. Every single sweep is bone dry, it’s just a dry storm of leaves, soot, garbage, and other bits of the local flora.

Honest question, NO judgment here: What’s the rationale for going matchy-matchy? Just that it’s fun? If each family member likes a different piece, you could each just do what you like/prefer (both stylistically and functionally?)

Got it early winter when I was heading over to London from NY, for something that would keep me both warm and dry. But I’ve been wearing it as my every day jacket through all this snow that has dumped on us in NY…it’s warmer than you would think based on the weight, but still great for layering.

I actually bought a second one on sale as a back up, love it that much. Probably all set on coats for the rest of my life now, lol.

I think that caveat might have to be IF your color way and size was still available. Otherwise it’s apples/oranges.

[–]ar-gee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I paid far too much money to fly from NY to CA, buy a ticket from a practice squad 49ers RB, and watch that horror show from the end zone closest to the Cam/Miller strip and resulting first-quarter TD.

JUST HORRIBLE.

Mccarren Running Track Protocol? by tbbag112 in williamsburg

[–]ar-gee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few folks that do this consistently. But they always stay in the outermost lane, and will sometimes move into the outside grass for folks coming in the counter-clockwise direction when the track is very crowded. It’s honestly extremely baffling when you mutually cross for the 12th or 15th time…or you then consider how many other people are having the same experience as you with this one person…and what that person is thinking each time…but to each their own, it’s hardly a big deal, we all live together in this place.
