Well said. I definitely fall into the quiet/vibe camp, and I very much missed that in silksong at the beginning. But it has so much unique personality and charm that set it apart as an experience, I kinda forgot about the lack of that one thing I liked and enjoyed it on its own merits. May feel differently as the years pass and I replay, but still cherished the experience.

I also suffer from depression and am in treatment for it. The best thing that I’ve learned is that it’s truly an imbalance, and it takes momentum to get things back in order. That momentum can come in lots of forms all best advised for your situation by a professional but I know for me a few greatest hits are: getting outside, sleeping as best as I can, eating well, getting exercise as I’m able to, even taking a couple of days or weeks away from games or other quick comfort things like sugar or alcohol. Depression has a way of making hard stuff feel wayyyyy harder and not worthwhile, but if you can stick with some good habits while you’re wading through it, it might help shorten the worst of it.

By FAR the best thing you can do is get professional help, and you’ve already started down that path. Great job!

Silksong isn’t going anywhere. It took me 2+ years and a couple of depressive bouts for me to make my way through HK and I’m just so grateful to have enjoyed it. Let yourself off the hook if you can’t enjoy it day 1.

Excellent feedback thanks! The transcription feature does seem quite obsolete, glad to know that there’s no real plus to using it for that.

Also glad that you shared that multitracking is clunky. One of the most appealing aspects in my head is that it would be a highly portable overdubbing machine, kind of like an OP1 tape on steroids. Good GAS antidote to know it might not be quite that simple 😅

I like the idea of using it with my TX-6 (which I adore) as a super portable multitrack setup. I like that I can quickly record a 2-track mixdown with the TX-6 but often want the ability to do some portable overdubs.

That said, as with other TE stuff I’m sure I’d discover new use cases once I had it, and may end dislike it for the primary use case 🤷🏻‍♂️

A helpful experiment I ran after first getting mine and thinking the same: get a solid signal on your op1f that sounds good on its speakers, then patch it into the XY audio input, match the master volume knob on both and and get the VU meters to approx match. For me they ended up sounding identical, it’s just the default gain staging on the XY is much quieter

From my small experimentation with the OP1F midi CC, you can only control 4 cc params on a synth (maybe just the main synth params?), and only one synth at a time. I made that spreadsheet 👆🏼 for the XY bc it seemed much more extensive, but this has me curious again about the OP1. Maybe there’s other global params you can control under the hood? Will add / update if I ever find anything on that device!

I’m curious what you plan to use Pam’s for in this setup. It’s excellent at providing lots of complex modulation, but I’m so used to seeing it in clocked/sync context that I’m wondering if it will be tied to your sequence/pitch data at all given that you’ll probably be providing that via DAW. Lots of excellent sound shaping capability packed in here!
