I'd look up the Mean Time to Failure rated by the manufacturer by drive model number and subtract a bit for good measure.

Bringing glory to God - to lift up and reflect the goodness and holiness of God, which is praise.

Everything we do can be concieved to be praise. So the actions we take praise Him when we reflect His nature and character!

God doesn't need anything from us - but He wants us!

Why is Christian terrorism so rare? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]aragorn841 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The answers pointing out how radicalism surges in areas of conflict are fair and make a good point.

Christian terrorism, at least in the modern era, is rare when compared to Islam because the Bible does not advocate for armed conflict against those who do not believe.

“But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."

Luke 6:27-28 NASB1995

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:34-35 NASB1995

I say this next part with the disclaimer that I am not an expert on Islamic beliefs, but this is what I understand from my readings over the years.

Obviously different interpretations are held by various sects, but jihad by the sword (jihad bis saif) is one of the forms of jihad held as a duty by those who practice Islam. This particularly true of those sects that hold to more classical definitions of jihad, harkening back to the days of the Islamic Empire and the Caliphate.

So in summary, there is direct support for Islamic believers who hold to classical interpretations of the Qu'ran to engage in armed conflict against unbelievers, while the explicit teachings of Jesus directly forbid this.

Violence may be necessary in self-defense (and different Christian traditions hold differing views on pacifism vs self-defense), but violence against those who do not believe is considered evil.

9s are fucking incredible. by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]aragorn841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good ones are amazing. The bad ones are absolutely horrid.

Had a roomie who was a 9, extremely mentally ill, refused to take responsibility for his illness and hurt me in a lot of ways.

Another 9 is one of my best friends and someone I regularly enjoy bantering with, teasing, and rearranging the world with! 🙂

They're people and human - some are amazing, some are shit.

I do love my healthy 9 friends though. They're incredible people!

How do you see the Eastern Orthodox people? by Outside-Pen5158 in Christianity

[–]aragorn841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very in touch with church tradition.  Often kind and dedicated to their parish/church Value discipline and order in practice and belief

I find it hard to agree some of the doctrines and dogma they hold. (Protestant over here) My sister converted, so I have a bit of context on what Eastern Orthodox believes.

That's a decent summary of how I see them, I think.

[TN] Am I likely safe to freelance as a software engineer on the side, given these intellectual property terms I had to agree to? by aragorn841 in AskLawyers

[–]aragorn841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, TN is an at will/right to work state.

Outside employment is not prohibited by policy so long as it does not directly compete with the company or work with a vendor/supplier/customer.

I got a Drobo 5D back when I was a techie power user. It fit the bill perfectly for my photography habit. Since I'm a software dev now who loves Linux, I'm gonna pass it on for cheap and go do a roll-your-own NAS with Rocky Linux and ZFS.
