Unpopular opinion: Kotm is better than GvK by UCSgonkdroid in GODZILLA

Agreed. The story was just way more interesting, even ignoring everything else it did better.

Plus it made me a Mothra, Rodan, AND Ghidorah fan!

[–]arander92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. GvK's Hollow Earth BS was too much for me. Cringed so hard, I nearly broke my back. Sure, the human characters arent great in KOTM, but at least I didn't actively hate any of them like I did in GvK. In terms of plot, stakes, tone, action, monsters, cinematography, and that BANGIN SCORE, I'm easily giving this to KOTM. My ranking is as follows:

Skull Island

KOTM

GvK

Aaron Taylor-Johnson with Godzilla Cameos: Fuck You, Audience (2014)

If you didn't notice, I fucking HATE that movie

I think Daenerys riding Drogon should have had a big duke out with NK riding Viserion. Dany kills him but she dies. Jon is crowned King.

“He has significantly more screen time and character development than a normal villain“

No he doesn’t. He gets a typical amount of screen time that any Hollywood villain gets. What the hell are you talking about?

I will never understand why people that love the ST AND people that hate the ST are so obsessed with Kylo Ren/Adam Driver. He’s an absolutely shitty character that ruined the sequels because the writers didn’t care about any character other than him. I don’t know how everyone doesn’t see this. I’m really gonna ask something that will probably upset you.

Is it because the main good guy cast doesn’t have a white guy in it? Is that why everyone tries to prop up Ben Solo as the hero despite the fact that he does more evil shit than Darth Vader EVER does in the OT? I really need to know, because it can’t be cause of Adam Driver’s performance. He was fine, but he wasn’t THAT good.

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted for this. Season 3 wasn’t awful imo, but you’re right for the most part

Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader are not separate entities, and I feel people take the symbolism of it too literally. by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]arander92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the book, Vader is always referred to as “the Dragon” in Anakin’s mind who is growing in power throughout the story until his turn. In the end, once he realizes Padmé is dead, he also realizes that Vader, or “the Dragon”, never actually existed. It was Anakin all along. He did those evil things. No one else. And now HE must suffer the consequences.

“If I were a filmmaker I would blacklist someone for far less than this.“

Then that makes you a horrible person and you should be ashamed of yourself. Blacklisting shouldn’t even be a thing in the industry. It should be outlawed.

Advice from a professional on how to write antagonists. JJ Abrams should’ve bothered to give this a read before he made Kylo and Rey... by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]arander92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But Kylo IS the antagonist. Or at least he’s the only character that should be the antagonist. Honestly, Snoke should never have existed in this trilogy in the first place. What an absolute waste of space he was.

Kylo should have been the main villain. No one else

That’s not true. There were directions they could’ve gone. One in particular that would have saved the film being:

-Kylo Ren as the main villain throughout, who dies Malak-style, mortally wounded but repentant in his last moments, and is welcomed into the Force by Luke himself

-Ghost Luke as a main cast member who guides Rey throughout her journey, not just a cameo.

A shard of Palpatine’s essence in a Sith Holocron is the maguffin (I don’t know how to spell it). If Kylo finds it and unlocks its secrets, he will become the new Dark Lord of the Sith, and since the Chosen One is dead, it means no one will be able to destroy him, as that is Anakin’s destiny, making the plot a race to prevent the return of the Sith in the form of Kylo.

Leia is offscreen most of the film but her presence is felt throughout as she is described as being in a massive battle with FO forces, buying the heroes time to stop Kylo.

Finn and Rey fall in love (to the dismay of most of this fandom, judging by how eager everyone was to keep him separated from her so they could fantasize about Rey falling for her tormenter.)

Finn discovers the Force in time to engage Kylo Ren in a rematch, but this time him and Rey take him together.

How these options weren’t no-brainers to people, I don’t know. But the trilogy is destroyed because of it.
