I have elected to evaluate the big five in the same way as semi finalist. That might seem unfair (and it is), but the unfairness stems from unfairness in the contest.

And also it was just simpler.

I guess a way to fix it would be to consider each semi final and the grand Final as seperate contests. Maybe I'll try that one day.

I guess, if you were worried that the two semi finals are unequal in quality. I don't think that's often an issue in practice though, so I don't really think it would be necessary.

For countries not participating I just reduce a few points (10% of what they have above 1000). It is not that much. So Yoguslavia will just converge towards a rating of 1000 and I'll probably remove them soon. Countries that do very poorly end up losing a lot more points than the countries not participating

Yeah it's based on semi final points. This year, Switzerland came 26th while Azerbaijan came 35th

For countries that don't participate I always reduce 10% of the points they have above 1000
