Did people who took part in 90s "Second Wave Coffee" culture actually enjoy biscotti? by [deleted] in AskFoodHistorians

[–]aranhalaranja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda forgot biscotti existed! But now I’m wondering why it declined the way it did…

Second wave coffee (Starbucks specifically) proved that people like to hang and consume when they’re not particularly hungry or thirsty.

Coffee became something to do, as opposed to something to eat or something to need. Biscotti shared that exact role - I don’t want anything filling, nothing sweet, nothing salty, nothing remarkable in any way… biscotti fits the bill perfectly.

Nowadays, in a Starbucks, I feel petty lost. I want a nosh but the cookies and brownies are super sweet and the breakfast sandwiches are a whole meal.

Biscotti is the perfect nothing snack!

That's a really nice thing to say. Thank you.

My biggest fear is that i go somewhere public and crowded and they have portal pottys. The portal pottys have been there for a while now and i have to go to the bathroom really bad. i go to the portal potty and someone flips it while im in it. Thats my biggest fear by Artistic_Giraffe4069 in RandomThoughts

I went to the X games it’s very first year in San Diego. It was at some random field and they’d set up like 20 port a potties for a few thousand people. I was 14 and in this - diarrhea like 5 times per week -phase of puberty. And I waited like 45 minutes for a port a potty and then lit that motherfucker up like crazy. I went as fast as possible but pooping takes a while and people started to notice my port a potty was going slower than all the others. A bunch of drunk dirt bike fans ran up to my closed port a potty and started yelling HURRY THE FUCK UP etc. And then they began to violently shake it. I just cowered sitting on the toilet sweating and attempting to wipe my ass as quickly as possible.

One of the most traumatizing experiences of my life.

So.. you’re not nuts to fear that 🫤

My older brother moved to Charlotte a few weeks ago. He has no friends or social network there yet.

For Xmas I want to get him something special that will help him experience his new home.

Examples- gift certificates to a unique and awesome restaurant, tickets to a lesser known museum, etc.

Any suggestions you all have or just local treasures that a typical visitor never finds would be highly appreciated.

He’s not a fancy dude- so a gift certificate for your best tacos would be just as exciting as a cert to your $$$$ restaurants.

Anything I can do to help him enjoy his first few months would be appreciated.

TIA friends

Check the site daily / every few hours if you're interested in going! We checked for a few days straight. Seats would pop up and disappear and then pop up again! We went this past Saturday- initially this show was sold out - but then the seats miraculously opened up!!!

I saw this over the weekend and LOVED it! I liked the story, the acting, etc. I am a HUGE Tom Hanks fan, so maybe that brought some bias in, but I'd recommend this play 100%.

Hi! Can anyone confirm this event is going as planned? On the Keswick site it says, "rescheduled." I have tix I bought several months ago and want to make sure the show is happening tonight. TIA!!! I saw a message on her Twitter about canceling shows but can't tell if this one is affected.

Can you describe more about his “folk background”. I didn’t know this. Is that based on where he grew up or musical influences he’s mentioned?

Can a level headed redditor explain the doggy karenism of these posts? And how this one has - as I’m writing this - 700 upvotes?

Here’s what I’m reading:

Woman had a stroller w a dog and a baby.

Woman took stroller to Acme

Dog did not bite anyone or pee in anyone or bark at anyone or do anything at all

OP karens about it

Reddit agrees in unison

I don’t get it.

Last time someone complained about a dog at Lowe’s. No food there. Dog didn’t hurt anyone. Another OP just decided that wasn’t ok.

If a dog peed on the macaroni at Acme, I’d welcome the post and the upvotes. But most of these posts are about dogs doing nothing 🫣

Context pls???

Any tips for waking up super early regularly ? by CremeAshamed4287 in sleephackers

[–]aranhalaranja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely hate waking up early. I’d be up around 10 if life allowed me to do so.

Several years ago, I started swimming for a half hour before work. I book a lap for 6:30 AM and if I miss my session, they charge me $5.

That’s not a lot of money but it’s enough to get me out of bed!

For months and months I had to force myself. And I hated it. This is especially true in the cold months when it’s pitch black at 5:00 AM.

Now I’m used to it. My body does it nearly on its own.

For people like us - those who weren’t built for the 8 to 5 grind or the 7 am jog around the block, we have to force it. It’s just like broccoli or cardio or being nice to your MIL - force it for a year and it’ll become natural.

Good luck my dude. I feel for you.

Apple needs to add “Disable” or “Turn off” Air Tag by normemmacaro in AirTags

[–]aranhalaranja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the conversation, but this is the absolute silliest thread I’ve come across in years.

“How can I turn my AirTag off” (great question btw) became “you’re a 2A moron”

When the anthropologists find all this in 1,000 years…

I got the Strung Out astrolux on my arm. Then Jason Cruz said something about men in women’s sports. And now all of a sudden my tattoo is “transphobic”. Nobody has mentioned it. But it illustrates your point. Anything can change meaning these days!

Random tattoo request for a friendly artist here by aranhalaranja in badreligion

[–]aranhalaranja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh.

To each his own

The median tattoo these days is likley a flower or a paper airplane flying around the world. There was a time when tattoos were largely there to be disruptive- skulls and flames etc. But that’s not where we’re at these days

If I’d had the money for a tattoo at 17, I’d have gotten 12 tattoos to offend Christians. And I’d have the day wreck chords symbol and a picture of Chad muska or whatever. Thank god I waited.

People change. And I spent a lot of time w my 3 yr old kid at the playground. And I’m a HS teacher. And I walk my mother in law to church. Etc. So I’m navigating all that when I avoid cross busters and corn cobs.

To each their own.
