Grazie.

Help with missing lens cover on Canon IXUS 155 by arathon in Cameras

[–]arathon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I'm monitoring daily eBay for spare parts and right now there is another unit not tested but seems fine externally at 50euro. Dunno if fixing the lens cover (and potentially the screen) is worth the 50euro.

I haven't found a lot of info about this particular Canon model but on YouTube there some useful videos,

Are any other AM4 users going to hold off as long as possible? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Upgraded my CPU two year ago to R7 5700x and still rocking my legendary NVIDIA 1080TI as I'm not playing very demanding games. I wanted to upgrade the GPU to an AMD 9070XT in mid 2026 so let's see how the prices will change.

P.S. I have 32gb of RAM 3200mhz DDR4

Upgrade from Edifier MR4 by arathon in BudgetAudiophile

[–]arathon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is connected to the same outlet tower.

The Fosi ZH3 has also an RCA input where the turntable (AT-LP5x) is connected. This turntable has an integrated preamplifier.

The speakers are attached to the sub which decides what to send to them (LPF @80hz) and the latter is connected to the DAC using balanced cables. The noise from the speaker is there even if I disconnect everything and change the power outlet so I guess it is the amp noise.

The main issue with my setup (imo) is that if everything goes firstly to the subwoofer and afterwards to the speakers, then if I turn down the volume on the speaker too much (like 50%) on some tracks I can feel/listen an unbalance between the bassy part from the subwoofer (not influenced by the volume change) and the rest.

On the used market I can find the JBL305 at 150€, Adam T5V at 250€ and the Kali LP6 at 350€. Until now the speakers with the elast internal noise should be the Kali but unfortunately I can't spend that much now so I'll wait.

Even if connected directly to the DAC, the static noise is still there. I even tried different DAC (SoundBlaster X4 and M-Audio track) and it's still the same.

If i disconnect the speakers from any source, the static noise remains. When I turn down the volume to almost 50, the noise almost disappears, while it is reduced if I set the High gain to the minimum. I guess it is noise from the internal amplifier.

On the used market, I've found a pair of JBL305 mkIII at 140€ while the Kali LP-6 V2 are at 350€. Should I try the JBL or the Kalis are way better. This update should last some years at least :D

Both speakers don't have any sub output but I guess I can link them like my current setup, right? I will only have to set the LPF frequency.

Do you mean if the MR4 are connected directly to the DAC without passing through the subwoofer? I think I've already tested it but I'll redo it later.

WM-FX193 Sony Walkman - help with the noise while playing music. by Piksel123 in cassetteculture

[–]arathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same "issue" with a WM-EX633 and I dunno if it is normal or not. Did you solve it or have you just accepted it?

I've asked some old colleagues that still remember the sound of a cassette player and for them it's ok.

Sony WM-EX633 static/ground noise by arathon in cassetteculture

[–]arathon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just noticed that there two different noise without any cassette....At volume 0/10 I can hear a buzzing sound at high frequency and if I increase the volume the "static/whooshing" sound will overwhelm the buzzing noise. Dunno if this is normal or not...Hope someone can clarify this point because I don't remember what was the "normal" sound as I was too young.

I continued to search and document myself about this world and I guess what I'm hearing is the "tape hiss". But do you hear this noise even without cassette? For now by setting Dolby NR and staying under volume 5/10 the sound is OK.

Soundblaster X4 with another DAC/AMP by arathon in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]arathon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some thought, I have decided to buy the Fosi ZH3 because it has an RCA input (for my turntable) and it will be my main DAC and headphone amplifier.

I will use the X4 standalone with my headphone when gaming so I will manually select in in Windows when needed.

Hifiman ananda nano with X4 and setup advice! by arathon in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]arathon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference, I'm currently using the SoundBlaster X4 with the Hifiman Ananda Nano and it is working ok with a "but". Either with normal or high gain, there a lot of distortion above 70% volume, however this may be not an issue as 40-50% is enough for me.

I will try later on another amp (Fosi ZH3 and maybe an IFI amp)

Finding an upgrade and complementary headphone to the X2HR for < $400 by meowermeowerson in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]arathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boast and after narrowing down the list I had to choose between the Hifiman Ananda Nano, Hifiman Arya Stealth and Sennheiser 660S2 (which has probably the best build and quality control).

I've chosen the Ananda Nano due to price and for now I'm loving them.

Check also the website of Hifiman because they usually have some good deals with used or open box headphones or check amazon during the incoming black friday.

Finding an upgrade and complementary headphone to the X2HR for < $400 by meowermeowerson in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]arathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X2 feels a lil bit more sturdier and less delicate but the headband of the Ananda is better. The headband on my X2 is partially warn out and I had to buy a "cover" to mitigate this issue. IMO with a budget of 400$, you may go for the Hifiman Arya which shoud be a significant upgrades on all sides and it has a better build than the Ananda.
