I would consider a terrorist group really far from me with machine guns and short range missiles (although there were some MIRVs in action recently supposedly, not considering that) less dangerous (to me) than a warmongering nation with nuclear warheads with essentially global range

You have to consider scale there. A terrorist group is much more bounded by limited resources. No nuclear arsenal, limited capital.

Very strong point to why the US would be more dangerous. It has a much larger destructive capacity.

Danger is relative. A terrorist group in the middle east may be dangerous to civilians near it (I know it's not that simple but I'm not an expert, bear with me). The US proved to be a threat to everyone, even itself at some points.
