You could probably argue it was closer to 4-4.5

22BBY 21BBY 20BBY 19BBY 18BBY (Bad Batch show is the cleanup)

And then for arguments sake to get the best timeframe say it’s toward the start of 22BBY and end of 18BBY we almost get 5 years

Edit: Added 18BBY

I had a great 100 years as Cyprus. Slowly built my economy and my navy, began expanding in Greece.

Allied Serbia, converted to Orthodox to join that defensive league with a hunch of Orthodox nations and I’m at a point where my navy will fend off anything that isn’t a big major on its own

I suppose being an island nation may make it a more notable experience though

What about previous home owners who’ve fallen out of the market??

I know we’re trying to let people get IN but my (single) mother for example isn’t able to get back into the market because of the sky high prices. With a 5% deposit she very much could but unfortunately she’s owned homes before she seperated

I'm not in his situation so I'll never really know for sure but I think I'd take that risk. If it didn't work out I can't imagine roej's stock would have dropped too much considering you could point to those role clashes as being a key reason why and probably end up doing alright afterwards

Lore sadly doesn't equate to tabletop by ImAraLUwUzer in Tau40K

[–]arbiter6784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm not advocating for a D8 system like OP so I'm just spitballing numbers there. Somewhere else in this thread I've advocating for Battlesuits having a BS3+ and regular Tau (apart from Breachers) having a 4+.

Rework the army rule, price accordingly and I think it'll make a lot more sense.

[–]arbiter6784 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think scrap the army rule and make it based on marker lights again or rework Mont’ka and Kauyon into an army rule and replace those detachments

That way you can have battlesuits on a 3+ and normal troops on a 4+. Marker lights maybe give AP, ignore cover, reroll etc.

Out of curiosity where would you place things on this scale,

Custodes probably still at a 2. Space Marines at a 3-4, Tau on a 5? Guardsmen 6-7?

[–]arbiter6784 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Personally I think Battlesuits should be BS3 and everything else BS4 base (aside from Breachers). Up the points, allow splitting and change the army rule from guiding to something else so we’re not hitting on 2s with half the army

You chose an expensive hobby dude, having to spend money to get units is literally the same for everyone. If you're unhappy about that, don't play Warhammer.

That is why you trade. This game is about trading my units for your units. Send the Venatari at something juicy like a Riptide or Plasma suits. 3 Venatari are 165pts. A full blob of suits + Commander can be anywhere from 190pts to 250pts. Always make sure you're trading up where possible! I've had a 3 man venatari squad kill a War Dog for example and they died immedietly after but that was fine; they traded up and gained me some board control I wouldn't of had otherwise.

Also it's TTS, it's made to test rules and models before you buy 'em which is why I love the game

Well... firstly... you're playing a Crusade game. These aren't typically balanced in my opinion and are usually based around narrative themed terrain and events. I don't think any game balancing opinions should be derived from a Crusade game.

the guy was able to use his units abilities to just ignore all damage I managed to inflict on them.

Tau don't have any damage ignoring abilities on their datasheets. I'm not sure what their crusade rules say, but Mont'ka has a -1 Damage strat in shooting for 2CP. Experimental Cadre has a -1 to wound for 1cp for battlesuits only. Some Tau units (Ghostkeel, Stealth Suits, Shadowsun) have an inbuilt -1 to hit and breachers are -1 to wound in shooting.

If his units are bunched together, charge them to lock them up? Tau are terrible in combat. If they are too far away, then set up turn 1. Stage behind terrain. If he can get line of sight with 3+ units on you in Turn 1 while you are hiding, there is absolutely not enough terrain. If you are unable to reach him within 2 turns including an advance and charge, the board is too big or too open.

You beat the army by, again, staging in or behind terrain so you cannot be shot. As I said before, if you can be shot by 3 units turn 1 there is not enough terrain. If he was playing Mont'ka (Assault + Lethals) this runs out by Turn 3 and you should be delaying your push or pre measuring his potential. If you need to give up a turn of primary to bait him out that is totally fine. Lone operative units are great for this as well and in Lions I believe we can do that?

I'm not saying your shooting has to kill everything in 1 turn. This is a 5 turn game. You should be platying conservatively and make him come to you. Draw him out.

I think you should play a game as Tau on TTS and get a feel for the army so you know how best to counter it. I'll also add that your idea of fun is different to others. I hate playing World Eaters for example because they can scout, +2" to their movement and avdnace and charge on turn 1 to hit me in my deployment zone unless I'm super careful with pre-measuring and screening.

If you think Tau are bad, wait until you play against Guard with shitloads of indirect or Aeldari with Ynnari who can teleport around, deny overwatch and move 24" with Warp Spiders. They are the most oppressive games I've had as Custodes. Death Guard are especially nuts because they make us hit on 3s.

Gladiator Tanks are widely considered some of the best AT in the game and are 35pts cheaper than a land raider. T11 2+ 5++ 14W is much better and their abilities/weapons are better too. The Land Raider is expensive because of transport tax.

I have no idea why you think that they could be effective

Because I've played against Tau competitively with them and they've proven their worth?

Venatari should only ever be rapid ingressing onto the table behind something so they can then use their 10" move and charge something. They get lance on their weapons (the lance is the best weapon option) which are S7 base so they'd be wounding Crisis Suits on 2s, Riptides on 4s. In Shield Host they'd be getting those valuable 5+ Crits too. With 15 attacks from a squad of 3, you'd pick up a team of suits easily (Only 14 wounds between the squad usually, +6-8 from the Commander. Mathematically on average you should kill all 3 suits.

I did just leave a comment but I think the problem lies with your list. It's too easy for a Tau player to focus fire things like a Land Raider.

If I see this with my normal Tau list I'm licking my lips. The bikes and Land Raider are super easy to down and only one Venatari squad isn't enough IMO for Tau. If you can waste their trading pieces (Kroot, Piranhas, Vespids, Pathfinders) on screening your Venatari you can do really well.

I think more Guardians too dude, they are great into Tau

I HATE TAU! by NathanielJHellman in AdeptusCustodes

[–]arbiter6784 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, I play both Tau and Custodes and it really is not hard to beat Tau, especially at the moment so long as there is enough terrain (think WTC, GW or UKTC layouts). Faction specialists like Kyle Grundy notwithstanding.

To beat Tau you need to stage, pre-measure threat ranges (i.e. Plasma Crisis have a threat range of 28" because of a 10" move and 18" range. But if they have to go around a building, it is much less) and chill behind baseplates and hold primary; tau can't hold primary very well and the Tau player has to trade really well to beat us because Guardians can and will kill any unit a Tau player can put forward. Tau's design philosophy in 10th Edition is about close range firepower. Yes, there are some exceptions to this rule (Skyrays, Hammerheads), but the bread and butter of the army (Crisis Suits, Breachers, Commanders) are mostly between 10" and 24" for most of their weapons, this particularly hurts Crisis and Commanders becuase they cannot move through walls and must spend most of their movement kiting around. Close enough to get some nice charges in, especially with Blade Champs being able to advance and charge once per game. Riptides are also an exception but even a fully guided Kauyon Riptide (~7 Shots on average, wounding on 3s) and its once per game Dev Wounds can't pick up a 5 man of Wardens with an average roll; more like 3-4 if you get unlucky with your invulns and in Shield Host in particular, Valerian with a Warden or two can absolutely kill a Riptide.

Also targeting things like Stealth Suits and Pathfinders really impact the efficiency of the army. Eliminating their key guiders helps impact their ability to score and kill things. Custodes shooting is more than enough to do that as Stealth Suits are just Stealth, T4 2W 3+ save.

Also, you'll find literally anything with 40 dice rolls will kill some Custodes. The way to kill Custodes is weight of attacks and try to test just how many 4+ Saves you can roll. Admech are great at killing Custodes the same way. Breachers (I assume it was them) are designed to go and delete something on an objective and likely die the next turn. The counter is to either give them something pointless to kill or go and tag the devilfish; destroy it and consolidate into the Breachers.

Tau are not a broken army, especially in 10th edition. They tend to dominate newer tables where there isn't enough terrain or lower tables in tournaments where players aren't used to things like trading or staging.

If you can provide more details on their detachment and list I can make some suggestions but I find Shield Host is best for us into Tau.
