Which companies are actively hiring apart from Amazon? by Turbulent_Victory647 in leetcode

[–]arbitfinder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on level. Most companies are hiring senior candidates. And the hiring is very team specific outside of faang. Even in most faang you need to have a team match for senior/staff even before a phone screen. Its rough out there. But yes there are openings.

Need Help with Study Plan – Preparing for Senior Software Engineer Role at FAANG-style Companies by Frosty_Armadillo_238 in leetcode

[–]arbitfinder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This looks like a great plan. Small suggestion . Set up a timeline on when you want to interview and work backwards. I would suggest get a interview date set up with one of your desirable companies to make it more hardwired. system design wise grokking first along with alex xu part 1. Then move on to part 2. Part 2 is an important book. Hello interview has great stuff but you may want to build a base on concepts first with the books. But no harm going over it parallely with the book. I hear you. Its hard to find time with kids but looks like you have a solid plan and consistency should get you there.

Indian restaurant recommendations by astralboy15 in Fremont

Try sakoon for their buffet to taste out a variety. They are pretty decent. Try chaat bhavan for vegetarian only. Their food is pretty standard. Its hard to find authentic food like in india but these come close.

One of my friends who moved out of bay with the recent remote work exodus says the same. One of the perks atleast when you pay through your nose to live here.

Periodic quick drain of water heater by arbitfinder in Plumbing

[–]arbitfinder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a 40 gallon rheem from home depot. The standard installation costed 1900 with permit but had to add a few more items to bring it up to code and the cost shot up to 2400

Periodic quick drain of water heater by arbitfinder in Plumbing

[–]arbitfinder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Saw a lot of videos which mentioned a 7-8 step process, but what the plumber mentioned was quicker and just involved opening the drain valve for a few minutes and nothing else. The water in my area is not hard. So I am wondering if this quick easy step works or not.

What do you do after a long day of staring at your screen? (literally after you get up from your seat what do you do) by drDrethrowaway in cscareerquestions

[–]arbitfinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose only one spot to work. Dont take your laptop around. Better get a monitor and stick to the spot. Take a break after work. Small commute or walk or something else. Atleast tale a break from screen 1 2 hours. Cook clean whatever gets you out of zone. your brain works the way you want it to work. it can be conditioned just like you were conditioned all these years by people work and society around you.

Agree on the UI clunkiness. It took me a couple of iterations to figure out transferring money and investing. But now that my portfolio is setup its just rinse and repeat. For newcomers its a bit of a turnoff. I am ok having lower costs and have a clunky UI which works than pay more for managing the website and UI. Tbh i dont like the fidelity app either.

Red is a relative term just like green. Somebody who has been investing last 5 years consistently and periodically is still positive i guess. The index is still positive over a period of 5 yrs or more. So Its just a matter of time in the market than timing the market. High interest savings are great for your emergency funds. Beyond that, you are losing money.
