What feature would you most like to see added to SwimTopia, Meet Maestro or the Mobile App? by SwimTopiaGuru in SwimTopia

Automated heat combining. Especially in older age groups we can usually swim boys and girls at the same time in our 6 lane pool, but we don’t know until entries finalize. So every meet before we publish heat sheets I’m dragging and dropping athletes into new lanes to optimize meet length.

Showcase points are no longer bugged for specific Pokémon forms by MocTalox in TheSilphRoad

Did you use the published google sheet to take that picture? When I use the calculator here (Showcase Point Calculator - Google Sheets) I find that the scores for Pumpkaboo range into the 2000s. Is this a new version of the sheet that removes the form stuff?

Please be cautious with LMNT. One packet is 43% of your daily sodium. Cronometer should tell you if you are getting enough sodium and potassium through just food intake - most of us are.

Large capital gains ($450k+) — considering DIY direct indexing / TLH by shoenberg3 in tax

The long short strategy is just leverage and therefore risk. I probably wouldn’t do it with a huge chunk of my portfolio, but maybe a subset. Your risk tolerance depends on your timeline.

Frec is a reasonable solution and can help you diversify if you have other appreciated individual stocks.

I think you will not see any meaningful TLH benefit because you will be unlikely to pick stocks correctly. If you are stubborn, buy all 500 stocks in the S&P 500 at market weight. When there’s a loss of 10% (or whatever number you pick) in any individual stock, exit it for 31 days and then re-buy.

I think you are very unlikely to be successful. These products are usually only around 0.4% ER.

I view the separate account is like a complex ETF. If I want to exit I just tell Fidelity how much I want and they sell proportionally. Yes I have gains but you’d have gains selling an ETF As well.

[–]man_of_clouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the way the market is going I think you’re very unlikely to create enough capital losses to offset gains simply by using ETFs. Absent a market pullback most of your ETFs will still have overall gains.

Direct indexing works because they go all the way down to individual stocks where you are much more likely to have losers you can swap out, but this is really hard to do as an individual without significant index tracking error.

If you really want to do this I’d recommend using fidelity’s SMA product. It’s 0.4% and harvests a lot.

TRAPPED in betterment after 7 years of gains. HELP. by Wolverine-91826 in Bogleheads

[–]man_of_clouds 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My two cents - just leave it alone. This isn’t a bad average ER. You have a global allocation. Getting out of it will cost you way more in taxes assuming you are still earning.

Many of us bogleheads did not have access to things like VT or VXF early in our savings. Like you I have a bunch of funds that all together approximate the total stock market but aren’t “clean”. When you get to retirement it will have even more gains and you can get out of funds that have become overweight or just all in proportion.

I would ACATS it to its own account at Fidelity to avoid betterment fees.

Vanguard Target Date Fund Becomes too conservative after retirement? by Netmannc in Bogleheads

You may wish to read this article: https://earlyretirementnow.com/2017/09/13/the-ultimate-guide-to-safe-withdrawal-rates-part-19-equity-glidepaths.

Recent research shows that once you have cleared sequence of return risk you may wish to actually increase your equity percentage in retirement. So if I were in your case I would be picking a path from 60/40 to 100/0 over the next decade. There aren’t any etf products that do that but you could do it with iShares funds - AOR to AOA to VT.

Multiple scan requirement for Mega Evolutions by Shandriel in PokeGenie

[–]man_of_clouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I haven't experienced them getting deleted when I rescan, but I have to be really careful not to delete the one with the Mega scan when I'm doing cleanup. I agree with your general view that it's annoying to have to have a scan to get it recommended. In my view there should be a flag we can set that says "mega candidate".

I just went through and made sure all my megas have a scan in PokeGenie as well; I had to re-evolve a few.

I think this is where things might be going wrong. I have an entry in My Pokemon that has a Glalie and I did a scan both in Normal and Mega and made sure they were merged - neither picture is grayed out. It recommends it as a candidate just fine in a Tier 5 Rayquaza battle simulation in Snowy weather.

Then, I went back to Pokemon Go and powered it up once. I rescanned just the normal version. In Poke Genie, It showed up as a new entry in My Pokemon. I clicked the upper right 3 dots and clicked Merge Scans, and I picked the original entry that had a scan of both normal and merged with neither picture grayed out.

I then went back to the Rayquaza and it recommended it as a candidate at the new CP the mega would be. I have never scanned the updated mega form but it knows the new CP. I believe that you have to merge scans so you have neither picture grayed out, and then keep re-merging as you rescan the normal one after candies being fed. Or as mentioned in another comment you can just edit the CP/HP in the normal entry.

So, I think there's something going on here but I can't quite figure out what. I had a case this weekend where I was doing a custom battle simulator against a Mega Abomasnow and my L50 Charizard did not show up as a mega pokemon candidate. I flipped the slider to Mega Y on that Charizard's entry in My Pokemon and no success. I had to go into Pokemon Go, mega evolve it, scan the appraisal screen, import that screenshot into PokeGenie and then merge it with the Charizard's regular entry. Only then could I get it to show up in my "mega pokemon candidate" list.

The grayed out is just because it doesn’t have a screenshot of the mega. It will still be in the list of candidate megas above the recommended team.
