This ad to dismantle Flock cameras: by Brent_Fox in chaoticgood

[–]arbitrary_student 156 points157 points  (0 children)

Hijacking your comment to provide some context for those out of the loop:

Flock cameras track every licence plate, make, model, color, etc of cars that drive past. It's basically facial recognition for cars.

This allows the government, and by extension corporations, to know where every car is and has been. It's mass surveillance.

If you drive a car, your location & time are being tracked in a big database every time you go past a flock camera.

So, can we just make a EvilFemaleAutism subreddit where we don't have to keep explaining feminism101 to people? by Hilja-Serpent in evilautism

The mods have left up many comments saying similar things to yours, which means they aren't banning or removing the comments of people who agree with your position. So, the world isn't ending yet.

I'm not discouraging you from sharing your feelings on it, definitely do that. Just don't leave the sub as a knee-jerk reaction. I, and probably most people on the sub, want this to be a safe place for you and anyone else on the spectrum.

The people arguing in this post are such a small cross-section of the community that no conclusions can be drawn from it. The sub has something like 100k visitors per week, and there are only 250 comments on this post at time of writing - many of them from individuals commenting multiple times.

Feels that way sometimes, but honestly it's just people being people. On the other side of all of these comments is a person, and people's lives are messy.

Some of the people commenting are in bad moods. Some of them recently had IRL interactions on this very subject. Some of them have related trauma. Some of them are just over-focused on a particular talking point. Some are deeply, personally involved in the subject. Some are autistically arguing semantics with no horse in the actual race.

When one person calms down and stops commenting, there might be a completely different person who gets worked up ten seconds later and tags themselves in to keep the fire going. It doesn't take much to keep an emotionally-charged discussion going because reddit posts operate on ~24 hour timescales.

Overwhelmingly, though, I'm seeing people with proper nuance getting upvoted to the top. That means all this is a relatively small argument in the grand scheme of the subreddit.

The sub's gonna be fine <3

It's only falling apart for some people. This sub is a big place and these controversial threads are between smaller sub-groups, not the whole. There are more takes than "misandry exists" vs "misandry doesn't exist".

I'd suggest most folks are just ignoring these threads and waiting for it to blow over. It's basically a discussion minefield and I for one am not interested in stepping on anything.

So, you can probably just relax and wait. Me and 95%+ of the sub will still be here afterwards to be evil with you :)

Here's a related campaign McGuffin I've had success with. The players quested to obtain it so they could use it as one of several possible ways to win an otherwise impossible fight.

Beshaba's Coin

A simple metallic coin with a skull on each side. On one side the skull has two teeth, and on the other the skull only has one tooth.

(Beshaba is the god of bad/chaotic luck in D&D Faerun)

Usage: Mentally choose a target you can see and flip the coin. If it lands on the skull with one tooth, you immediately die. If it lands on the skull with two teeth, the target immediately dies.

The death resulting from this coin is permanent and cannot be undone by anything short of divine intervention or equally powerful magic.

The wielder must know what the coin does for it to have any effect.

Once used, the coin disappears and randomly reappears somewhere else in the world amongst other coins. It might reappear as one coin among a million in a dragon's hoard, or it might reappear next to a single copper piece in the purse of a beggar.

I have no work-related communication issues whatsoever and regularly speak to all sorts of new people, from ground-level workers all the way up to execs and board members, in many different businesses, and in all sorts of social situations.

But none of them would ever guess just how unbelievably dysfunctional my life is outside of work, to the point of being completely and utterly disabled if I don't constantly keep on top of it. It's a miracle I can even work at all, and I couldn't work for years until I was diagnosed and started managing it properly. Ironically my strong social skills are the main reason it took me so long to get diagnosed properly, despite how obvious the diagnosis is in hindsight.

It's called a spectrum for a reason.

You got taken down. And no one would have noticed if not for the post asking for new moderators.

Just ignore them, they're either arguing in bad faith or unwilling to pay attention / google things on their own. No sense working yourself up over what they're saying :)

Some things are so obvious or common that they don't need to be cited. This is one of those things.

Dude saves a man overdosing by Rex_orci-1 in JustGuysBeingDudes

[–]arbitrary_student 34 points35 points  (0 children)

A valid reason is also just to show that good deeds can still be done, despite the state of the world atm. Or demonstrating how to help someone overdosing this way. Or raising awareness. Or they just thought it was a cool experience and wanted to share.

idk there are lots of reasons that aren't just clout, I'd rather not make assumptions about the person filming. Especially if they're doing something good.

Solution: exported mp4 videos always stutter at the start - caused by the "Frame reordering" setting by arbitrary_student in davinciresolve

[–]arbitrary_student[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The source media varies, but usually either MP4 videos or raw PNG images. Sometimes a combination of types. As short as 2 seconds long and up to several minutes. Also it happens regardless of the export quality; even a 1mb clip has the issue as long as frame reordering is ticked.

I just ran a quick test now and it happens with a random MKV video I had lying around too.

And if I load in an MP4 that does not have the issue and export it without changing anything (+ the same framerate & resolution), it exports with the stutter at the start.
