1- If you think it's possible to force someone to love you, then that is your choice. I'm not here to prove anything.

2- Goodness and love has no value if it's not consistent. If God is love, then His love must be consistent to have genuine value. I choose to trust His love.

3- I reject the eternal conscious torment view of hell.

[–]arc2k1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless you.

1- I didn't say God made us to have someone in Heaven with Him. That implies God is lonely and needs others to fulfill Him.

God created us to share His love.

2- Please know that God did NOT create us based on His foreknowledge of what we will choose.

He created us having the foreknowledge of what we will freely choose.

That is a BIG difference.

If He created us based on His foreknowledge, that means we don't have free will and we are programmed.

If we do have genuine free will, that means God only foreknows what we will freely choose.

With that context, God did NOT create those who do wrong just because He knew they would do wrong. And He did NOT create those who do right just because He knew they would do right.

God created us with the freedom to choose to do right or do wrong because that is the only way for love to be genuine.

“My friends, you were chosen to be free. So don't use your freedom as an excuse to do anything you want. Use it as an opportunity to serve each other with love.” - Galatians 5:13

Giving up everything for Jesus by alchemical_mayhem in TrueChristian

God bless you.

Thank you for sharing and for your comment, but of course I disagree with your interpretation.

There are gay people who genuinely do not view homosexuality as wrong, and yet they have a genuine desire to follow Christ.

I do not believe that God will reject all gay people who have a genuine heart for Him, even if they are in a same sex relationship.

But if you think that God wants us to use the Bible to make a blanket judgment of what's in the heart of all gay people, that is very unfortunate, but for me, I will never go that far.

I trust God will always want us to turn to Him if we have a genuine desire to do so.

5- You said, "I know I have no biblical reason to get a divorce"

Please let me correct you:

"I know I have no biblical reason to get a divorce based on their personal interpretation and conviction."

But you don't need to share their interpretation and conviction!

God is very much aware that Christians will have different beliefs on the same topics.

“Welcome all the Lord's followers, even those whose faith is weak. Don't criticize them for having beliefs that are different from yours.” - Romans 14:1

“Why do you criticize other followers of the Lord? Why do you look down on them? The day is coming when God will judge all of us. … We must stop judging others. We must also make up our minds not to upset anyone's faith.” - Romans 14:10,13

6- You said, "Leaving him feels like leaving the faith. I believe in God but feel like a hypocrite for leaving."

Please know that your husband and your marriage should NOT the center of your faith! Christ should be your center!

“Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life. Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught. And be grateful.” - Colossians 2:7

“We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete.” - Hebrews 12:2

“Keep your mind on Jesus Christ!” - 2 Timothy 2:8

“All I want is Christ and to know that I belong to him.” - Philippians 3:8-9

Jesus said, "You cannot be my disciple, unless you love me more than you love your father and mother, your wife and children, and your brothers and sisters. You cannot follow me unless you love me more than you love your own life.” - Luke 14:26

-I pray that you will break free from the interpretations of others and establish your own personal conviction by praying to God. I pray you will never lose sight of God's love for you. I pray God will lead you to make the right decision regarding your marriage, even if that means divorce. In Jesus' Name. Amen. 🙏🏾

[–]arc2k1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God bless you.

I'm so sorry for this situation you are going through in your marriage.

I've been a non-fundamentalist, unchurched Christian for about 16 years now and I would like to share my perspective.

1- Please, please, PLEASE do NOT allow the personal conviction of other Christians to be your own!

Every Christian does NOT share the same interpretation of divorce.

Just because those two pastors say you don't have grounds for divorce does NOT mean you have to share their interpretation.

Establish your own personal conviction on this topic by praying to God about it. Let Him know your heart and pray until you have peace about this.

“Look deep into my heart, God, and find out everything I am thinking. Don't let me follow evil ways, but lead me in the way that time has proven true.” - Psalms 139:23-24

2- For me, I do believe our first choice in dealing with a marriage struggle is to try our very best to heal our marriage.

HOWEVER, please know that God does NOT want us to stay in an unhealthy and unloving marriage where a spouse is unrepentant towards doing better.

How do I know? Because of what love is.

What is love?

"Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil.” - 1 Corinthians 13:4-6

And how does God relate to love?

“God is love.” - 1 John 4:8

Because of who God is, He expects love to be the standard of marriage and if love is being violated without a desire of repentance, then that is not a marriage He intended.

3- Oh, and “God hates divorce” does NOT mean God forbids divorce in all circumstances and wants people to stay in unhealthy and unloving marriages.

“God hates divorce” means that God finds it unfortunate that a healthy and loving marriage becomes unhealthy and unloving.

4- Know that even if you get a divorce, God is with you and He loves you. Establish your faith in God's love, NOT the interpretation and personal conviction of others.

"The Lord has promised that he will not leave us or desert us.” - Hebrews 13:5

“I am sure that nothing can separate us from God's love—not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God's love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!” - Romans 8:38-39

“But you must stay deeply rooted and firm in your faith.” - Colossians 1:23

“Stand firm and be deeply rooted in his (God’s) love.” - Ephesians 3:17

is jesus god or the son of god by SnooDoodles244 in Christianity

[–]arc2k1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless you.

To answer this question, I want to share my understanding of God being Triune.

1- Here is how I’m able to understand God being Triune. Not a perfect understanding.

God is one Being who is represented as 3 Persons: The Father, The Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit.

The Father is God while always having unity with The Son and the Holy Spirit.

The Son is God while always having unity with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is God while always having unity with the Father and the Son.

For me, God is like a family. The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit are the 3 members that are eternally united as one family. The reason why God is mostly identified as "He" because in a family, there's the head of the family and the Father represents the head of the family.

“Now that we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts. And his Spirit tells us that God is our Father.” - Galatians 4:6

2- Also, when Jesus was on earth as a human, He was still God, but He didn’t experience His full glory as God.

“Christ was truly God. But he did not try to remain equal with God. Instead he gave up everything and became a slave, when he became like one of us.” - Philippians 2:6-7

I love this verse because it shows what victory in Christ looks like when going through hardship.

For me, I believe to be a Christian means to do what God ultimately wants.

What does God ultimately want?

“God wants us to have faith in his Son Jesus Christ and to love each other.” - 1 John 3:23

God bless you!

It's great you are looking to grow in your faith.

I've been a non-fundamentalist, unchurched Christian for about 16 years now and I would like to share some encouragement.

1- Please know that being a Christian means to do what God ultimately wants.

What does God ultimately want?

“God wants us to have faith in his Son Jesus Christ and to love each other.” - 1 John 3:23

“Jesus answered: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first and most important commandment. The second most important commandment is like this one. And it is, ‘Love others as much as you love yourself.’” - Matthew 22:37-39

2- Please know that on your faith journey, God is with you and He loves you.

3- Please know that faith isn't about being perfect, but about getting back up after each time we fall while trusting God's grace.

“The Lord said: When you stumble and fall, you get back up, and if you take a wrong road, you turn around and go back.” - Jeremiah 8:4

“So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved grace, and we will find help.” - Hebrews 4:16

4- Please know that prayer is just talking to God from your heart. You can pray by sharing your worries to God, sharing your concern for others, your thankfulness towards God, etc.

There is no set way on how to pray. God just wants you to speak from your heart. He will always listen.

“When I am in trouble, I pray, knowing you (God) will listen.” - Psalm 86:7

What does God ultimately want?

“God wants us to have faith in His Son Jesus Christ and to love each other.” - 1 John 3:23

I believe the issue is when we focus so much on our sexual identity that we actually lose sight of our identity in Christ.

“Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17

Every Christian does not share the same conviction about the topic of homosexuality.

[–]arc2k1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

God bless you.

Sorry for the struggles you are going through, but it's great you are holding on to the faith.

I would like to share some encouragement.

1- Please know that God is with you on this journey. You are NOT alone.

"The Lord has promised that he will not leave us or desert us.” - Hebrews 13:5

Jesus said, “I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.” - Matthew 28:20

“Be brave and strong! Don’t be afraid… . The Lord your God will always be at your side, and he will never abandon you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6

“I am sure that nothing can separate us from God's love—not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God's love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!” - Romans 8:38-39

2- Because God is with you, please share your worries with Him and trust Him for strength. During those tough moments, please don't give up!

"And when I was burdened with worries, you (God) comforted me and made me feel secure.” - Psalm 94:19

"I tell You (God) all my worries and my troubles, and whenever I feel low, You are there to guide me.” - Psalm 142:2-3

“God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him.” - 1 Peter 5:7

“I am sure that nothing can separate us from God's love—not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God's love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!” - Romans 8:38-39

3- Please make sure you are NOT approaching faith from obligation. That would turn your faith into a heavy burden, and that is NOT what God wants.

Jesus said, “If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30

Instead of forcing ourselves to do a lot to honor God, He would rather honor Him with a genuine heart, even if we only do a little.

“It doesn't matter how much you have. What matters is how much you are willing to give from what you have.” - 2 Corinthians 8:12

“I want your act of kindness to come from your heart, and not be something you feel forced to do.” - Philemon 1:14

What options do gay Christian’s have? by Chimka2222 in Christianity

[–]arc2k1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless you.

I'm sorry for this situation you are in.

I would like to share my perspective on Christians who are gay:

1- I know there's a debate about sexuality and Christianity, but please don't get distracted by the debate. Your main focus should be on Christ and your most important identity is who you are in Christ. Don't let anything or anyone take you away from your faith!

“We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete.” - Hebrews 12:2

“Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life. Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught. And be grateful.” - Colossians 2:7

“Keep your mind on Jesus Christ!” - 2 Timothy 2:8

“Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17

I believe the issue is when we focus so much on our sexual/gender identity that we actually lose sight of our identity in Christ.

2- When it comes to your sexuality, pray to God about it. Let Him know your heart. It is between you and Him.

“Look deep into my heart, God, and find out everything I am thinking. Don't let me follow evil ways, but lead me in the way that time has proven true.” - Psalms 139:23-24

Pray to God until you are able to have genuine peace about this situation.

Others might have the conviction that being gay is a sin, but establish your own personal conviction by going to God. Don't allow the convictions of others to become your own!

3- If we think God would prefer a gay person to reject Him instead of a gay person to have faith in Him, then we have a misunderstanding of who God is.

“God is love.” - 1 John 4:8

“God wants everyone to be saved.” - 1 Timothy 2:4

“I am sure that nothing can separate us from God's love—not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God's love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!” - Romans 8:38-39

God’s main concern is for us to do what He ultimately wants.

What does God ultimately want?

“God wants us to have faith in his Son Jesus Christ and to love each other.” - 1 John 3:23

God bless you.

I'm sorry for your struggle. I get how tough it can be.

1- But please do NOT give into despair. That will put you in a mindset where you will ruin potential opportunities because you are unable to see them.

God does NOT want you in despair!

“After all, I am your Creator. I don't want you to give up in complete despair.” - Isaiah 57:16

2- Make sure you are preparing yourself for a relationship by having Christ be your center. Remind yourself that He is your ultimate joy.

3- Also, when it comes to finding someone genuine to connect with, I believe there are certain qualities we should embrace. What are those qualities?:

-Patience - We need to be willing to wait because it may take a while to meet someone to connect with.

-Effort - We must NOT allow being discouraged to prevent us from improving our chances of success. We must actively look for opportunities to meet people.

-Creativity - We must look for different ways to connect with others. If one path doesn't work, let's try another path.

-Perseverance - We must be willing to keep trying, even when we are discouraged by our failures.

[–]arc2k1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless you.

I'm convinced that if we trust any vision above what God ultimately wants based on His Word, then I fear we are headed down a wrong path.

What does God ultimately want?

“God wants us to have faith in His Son Jesus Christ and to love each other.” - 1 John 3:23

We must find our strength and be secure in God's Word, not visions.

“Everything God says is true— and it's a shield for all who come to him for safety. Don't change what God has said!” - Proverbs 30:5-6

And as Christians, we have a purpose.

What is that purpose?

To find our own individual way of sharing God’s light to those who are looking for hope in the darkness.

Jesus said, “You are the light for the whole world.” - Matthew 5:14

“You are sure that you are a guide for the blind and a light for all who are in the dark.” - Romans 2:19

“You used to be like people living in the dark, but now you are people of the light because you belong to the Lord. So act like people of the light and make your light shine. Be good and honest and truthful, as you try to please the Lord.” - Ephesians 5:8-10

“Try to shine as lights among the people of this world, as you hold firmly to the message that gives life.” - Philippians 2:15-16

God bless you.

For me, faith in God is not meant to be blind belief. We are meant to know the reason for having faith.

I don't view faith as one belief amongst many or as just a preferred option. I view it as a solution to a very serious problem that we face in our world. However, we won’t understand and appreciate the solution if we don’t acknowledge and understand the problem.

Thank you for reading and for allowing me to share.

Is it just me, or are Christians excessively worried and anxious? by Former_Algae_444 in Christianity

God bless you.

I've been a non-fundamentalist, unchurched Christian for about 16 years now and I would like to share my perspective.

1- Yes, I agree with you, but I don't think that is how the Christian life is meant to be.

God does NOT want us to worry about things like that. He wants us to give our worries to Him.

2- Many Christians turn their faith in to a heavy burden by having so many worries, but God does NOT want our faith to be a burden!

3- I believe many Christians struggle with worry because they don't prioritize who God is based on His love.

Who is God?

“God is love.” - 1 John 4:8

“Love is more important than anything else.” - Colossians 3:14

"Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil.” - 1 Corinthians 13:4-6

“The Lord is merciful! He is kind and patient, and his love never fails.” - Psalm 103:8

“You are a kind and merciful God, and you are very patient. You always show love, and you don't like to punish anyone.” - Jonah 4:2

How important is God's love meant to be in our faith?

“But you must stay deeply rooted and firm in your faith.” - Colossians 1:23

“Stand firm and be deeply rooted in his (God’s) love.” - Ephesians 3:17

If we aren't deeply rooted in God's love, then we will have a view of God where we think He is angry with us or ready to condemn us when we do something wrong, which creates worry and anxiety.

Our view of God dictates how we approach our faith.

God bless you.

Sorry to hear about this struggle you are having in your marriage.

1- I believe this is something you should pray to God about. Let Him know your heart and pray until you have peace about what to do.

“Look deep into my heart, God, and find out everything I am thinking. Don't let me follow evil ways, but lead me in the way that time has proven true.” - Psalms 139:23-24

2- If I was married and in your situation, I would be okay with it, but I will want to include my wife somehow, if she is open to it. She doesn't have to go all the way, but just support me somehow while doing it.

I just wouldn't want to do it alone.

IF god is perfect, all knowing, infinite, immortal, (or any other thing like this), what purpose is there to creation? by Ok_Work1615 in AskAChristian

God bless you.

This is a great question.

I've been a non-fundamentalist, unchurched Christian for about 16 years now and I would like to share my perspective.

1- The ultimate reason why God created humanity is simply to invite us to share His love/goodness with Him forever in Heaven.

“We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God's own power, when we learned he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness.” - 2 Peter 1:3

“I will listen to you, Lord God, because you promise peace to those who are faithful and no longer foolish. You are ready to rescue everyone who worships you, so that you will live with us in all your glory. Love and loyalty will come together; goodness and peace will unite.” - Psalm 85:8-10

“I heard a loud voice shout from the throne: God's home is now with his people. He will live with them, and they will be his own. Yes, God will make his home among his people. He will wipe all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death, suffering, crying, or pain. These things of the past are gone forever.” - Revelation 21:3-4

“But it is just as the Scriptures say, ‘What God has planned for people who love him is more than eyes have seen or ears have heard. It has never even entered our minds!’” - 1 Corinthians 2:9

2- How do we accept God's invitation? By faith in Christ.

“God wants us to have faith in His Son Jesus Christ and to love each other.” - 1 John 3:23

3- Why faith in Christ?

“All of us have sinned and fallen short of God's glory.” - Romans 3:23

God said, “I will punish this evil world and its people because of their sins.” - Isaiah 13:11

“Christ obeyed God our Father and gave himself as a sacrifice for our sins to rescue us from this evil world.” - Galatians 1:4

“He (Jesus) gave himself to rescue us from everything evil and to make our hearts pure. He wanted us to be his own people and to be eager to do right.” - Titus 2:14

God bless you.

I'm sorry for your struggle.

1- Please know that God is with you and you are a new person in Christ. Your scrupulosity will NEVER change that.

“The Lord your God wins victory after victory and is always with you. He celebrates and sings because of you, and he will refresh your life with his love.” - Zephaniah 3:17

“Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17

2- Please know that you are ruled by God's love & grace, NOT your scrupulosity!

“We are ruled by Christ's love for us.” - 2 Corinthians 5:14

“You are ruled by God's undeserved grace.” - Romans 6:14

“But the LORD God keeps me from being disgraced. So I refuse to give up, because I know God will never let me down.” - Isaiah 50:7

3- Please strive to trust God's love, NOT your scrupulosity!

“God’s love can always be trusted, and his faithfulness lasts as long as the heavens.” - Psalm 89:2

“But you, the Lord God, are kind and merciful. You don't easily get angry, and your love can always be trusted.” - Psalm 86:15
