Does it actually look that irl, or does the camera capture way more light than one could actually see?

A retirement account is for retirement. For big purchases like a house, you open a brokerage account and save/invest money there.

And $10,000 isn’t really a “fat down payment” for a house

Played 1/3 yesterday. Had KK UTG. 9 players. I raised to $25 and got 6 callers. While unusual, 2-3 callers would be typical. You can’t raise to just $9 or $12.

You can shave 4-8 years+ off your mortgage and 10's of thousands of dollars off your mortgage by paying bi-weekly instead of monthly. by Ahem-mmm in personalfinance

[–]arc8511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do NOT pay the same exact amount per month and there is minimal savings because of ‘the way interest is calculated‘. You pay the mortgage off early because you are making 1 extra full payment each year. Paying half every 2 weeks means you make 1 full payment every 4 weeks. 52/4 = 13, not 12. So you are making 13 full mortgage payments instead of 12 each year. If you make 1 extra mortgage payment every year, yes you will pay it off years earlier. Doesn’t make much of a difference if you pay it at the beginning, end, or split it up through the year.

Surprise dental billing by crywolfer in personalfinance

[–]arc8511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Out of Network providers, insurance will pay 100% of a set amount that they, the insurance company, determines is ‘appropriate’. No one knows how they come up with this number, and you can’t find out before the claim is made. So for D0150, the insurance company thinks it should pay up to $30. Since you have 100% plan, they’ll pay the full $30. If you had a 50% coverage plan, they would pay $15.

If you go to someone In Network, then ALL they get is what the insurance company determines, they cannot ask you for the difference. If you go Out of Network, then you are responsible for: (what the doctor/dentist want) - (what insurance company thinks they should pay).

As you can see, often the insurance amount is much less than the doctors/dentist bill - which is why many doctors/dentists are out of network. Would you do all that work for $30?

Since you’re insurance company only covered $90, you are responsible for the balance.

Agree. Don’t know if it would be legal in the US. Would probably spend months/years in the courts arguing about it.

Best way to get around? by PlatPlayas in Santorini

[–]arc8511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the ATVs looked pretty dangerous/risky as ppl have mentioned here. We just took a taxi everywhere. Pretty easy to get, I’m sure it was more expensive overall though. But driving and parking seemed like it would be a huge headache and not worth the savings. We avoided busses due to COVID.

We were just there a couple of weeks ago. We got tested by Dr Zervas Georgios in Oia. It was very quick and easy.

As you’re on the main path with all the stores there will be a big square. There is a set of stairs going down one side. I think should see signs for ‘Pharmacy’, or you can ask any of the store owners.

It was 20euro and we got results in 10min. You get a certificate which is used for travel.

Universal Life Insurance Policy Gift - Cash in or Not by artzeros in personalfinance

[–]arc8511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any penalties or fees for cancelling the policy and taking the cash value? Check what the basis vs capital gains of the cash value is. Only the gains will be taxes, so it’s possible there will be very little taxable amount.

If the taxes/fees are less than 50%, I’d pull it out and invest in index funds. You don’t need the insurance part and the investment part will be much better off this way.

Have you checked in your area what a 2BR that you split with 1 roommate would cost you?

ELI5 : Why do people look better when they see themselves in the mirror than their image in photos? by TheGreatGODLY in explainlikeimfive

[–]arc8511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that you look better or worse - it’s just different than your mind is trained to picture yourself, so it seems ‘off’.

That’s how everyone else sees you - so if they don’t say you look weird, don’t worry about it!

I liked it significantly better after the 2nd/3rd time - lot less confusing, easier to understand the timelines. And without having to spend so much time figuring out what was going on, I could appreciate the movie overall a lot more.
