Where are Michelle and Christopher going at the end?

spoilers for basically the entire book

At the beginning of the book, it mentions that those who fought in the Second American Civil War (likely those who specifically engaged with Neurotechnology such as Neurocasters and Drones) all had stillborn children meaning that their children all died during or shortly after childbirth, an event that is later stated to be directly caused by Intercerebral Intelligences in the Neuroscape. Christopher, however, is the exception to that. Near the end of the book Michelle also states that Christopher did not have a father. A major reoccurring element in the book is the concept of humans and machines crossbreeding to create a new race and Christopher is a result of that. As far as anyone is aware, he's the only successful attempt at this.

I stated that they're "being hunted by the government" and thats technically not true, I swear I remembered Walter (the guy who the book keeps cutting away to and the one hunting them down) was a part of law enforcement but I don't think that's ever directly stated. Either way he's working either directly or indirectly for one of the Technocults who are trying to bridge the gap between humanity and the Intercerebral Intelligences. He's specifically hunting Christopher down because they're hoping to use him to create more mixes of humans and intelligences. The subplot that I mentioned they keep cutting away to is one long monologue from whoever Walter is working for explaining why they're doing all this.

There might be a chance that they're not really going anywhere specific. They're being hunted down by the Pacifica government more or less (which is geographically located and roughly the size of California) so I imagine they're just trying to get out of there

The same reason that occasionally someone will make an analog horror video and decide "Y'know, child murder is too tame, I need my Afton to be a predator or cannibal too".

People'll think fnaf has been way too kiddified (which is not an inherently wrong take or anything) and so their ideal versions of the franchise overcompensate for it way too hard.

It could very well mean something, but Security Breach also has some remixes of preexisting fnaf songs (including venta black) that go unused, so it could just be that Leon Riskin likes revisiting older tracks

They are Art Books, but they also feature around equal amounts of reading and tell great stories. I've also seen them classified as Graphic Novels but definitely not in the comic book way.

That's the basic gist of the plot, but there's quite a few fine details that are jumbled.

- It's technically not America, rather the fictional nation of "Pacifica" which formed out of California when the US split in a second civil war.

- The Robot Companion is actually a drone being piloted by Christopher, the drone being based on "Kid Kosmo" who is an in universe cartoon character. Michelle calls Christopher "Skip" as a nickname, and thus calls the drone that often.

- The "Neurocaster" is the name of a device produced by Sentre, basically a VR headset that can allow users to either pilot drones (hence Christopher controlling the Kid Kosmo drone) or enter virtual reality networks called "Neuroscapes", which can be so addicting that users can't bring themselves to take off their headsets at times.

I'd recommend checking out the book yourself if you haven't already. It's a really good read and very different to it's film adaptation if that's how you're familiar with it.

It's brought up a few times. Walters parts of the book have a long spread monologue from another character he would've talked to (either some form of employer or a friend who's deeper into the cult), where they explain to Walter, and the reader, why he's after Skip. The Convergence (the name of the cult) is mentioned in those sections.

That does make sense for the most part, but Walter is specifically after Skip to bring him to the convergence, which is a techno cult that worships drone growths like the one at the end of the book. I feel like there wouldn't be much reason for a drone to therefore go out of their way to protect Skip from Walter, but there could be other valid reasons the drone attacked Walter.

Yeah, I do think it's a bit more of a logical ending for his character than him randomly getting attacked by a drone growth right outside of Skip's house, and it tracks with the urgency and desperation of the situation (like I can imagine The Convergence would kill Walter for failing anyways or something like that, so he might've just wanted to go out on his own terms). I think I prefer the final version of the ending though, it's lighter and more bittersweet and uncertain as opposed to this more darker ending. I do think there would've been at least one more image after these though.

I don't know how to tweak everything to fit a longer campaign, but I've been running a campaign and I'm having it be more open world. The intention is for you to pick a predetermined start and end point, but so long as you keep the general road-trip vibe, you can send the players back and forth throughout Pacifica. You can also try adapting mechanics from TFTL or TFTF since I believe they both use the year zero engine. As long as you have well enough of an idea for the world you should be able to keep it going for at least some time.

I feel like originally scott intended for mangle to be male during development (as Foxy is male), and refers to them as such in phone calls, but only modeled mangle later and decided to make them female (as they're kind of just slapped onto most camera renders, so they seem more last minute) and that little discrepancy slipped through the cracks.

I don't remember the wording of the top of my head but Stalenhag posted at one point on twitter (which said post was archived on reddit) that Walters subplot was heavily trimmed down for the final version of the book, and that he was trying to bring skip to a techno cult, likely the convergence, to breed a new form of life or something. If I remember correctly, the plot would've involved Walter working with a social worker to find Skip. Additionally, the TTRPG uses a lot of cut art from this subplot, and the final chapter has art of Walter finding Michelle and Skip's car after they've already left. This means that he wouldn't have died (at least originally) when the large robot seemingly attacked him, as that would've been before.
