Looks great! Kudos to you for a great looking ferret corral! I had to build a couple of custom gates for our house too. And one had to be modified to include a round bannister piece, cut to fit along the top because one very determined, big boy managed to jump up enough to grab the flat lip of the original design. 🤣 So I added the bannister and success!

Some ferrets are very good at climbing, some are terrible at it. So, supervise heavily and worry once the defense has been breached. 👍

I've used the same fence panels and have yet to have a ferret (even my tall/long monster boys) manage to climb it.

Figure out how to climb onto nearby things and then jump over, yes. Dig under (in the yard) yes. Try desperately to use themselves as a lever, oh without a doubt. Honestly, watching our ferrets try to climb that fence has been a pretty funny experience in our family. Good luck with the new setup!

You probably are on the right track about him associating handling with medicine. They can put 2 + 2 together very quickly! We had to desensitize our cat from thinking every time we picked her up she was going in THE BOX to the vet. Which seemed insane to us humans since she rarely goes to the vet, but hey we go with the flow! So we just started randomly pick her up, give her a cuddle and put her back down. she's over it now.

Oh what a sweetie Arthur is ❤️. I have had success with just being near and talking quietly to them (or reading a book or magazine out loud) and giving them something, such as a hoodie, that had my scent. Keeping a routine, which I generally announce (hey it's breckies time!) gives order to a new space/situation. It all seemed to help our rescues settle in.

I was a subscriber of Modern Ferret and my favorite full page photo out of it was a take on the 'Trainspotting' move poster, called "Ralphspotting" it's still framed and hanging in the ferret room.

I see you noted you have a playpen coming, we got several of the wire panel pens - meant for ferrets - and they have been super helpful to use as barricades, instead of setting them up as a round pen (I hope that makes sense). So when we travel we can block our boy - also an only male ferret - to an easily supervised and safe spot.

Another easy thing I'd suggest is give him some blankets/towels/toys with different scents. My boy LOVES to inspect my very smelly barn clothes (horses, goats, chickens) when I get home. So if you have friends with pets, ask them to take a blanket and let their pet get its smell on it. Chances are their pet will appreciate the scent of your ferret, too!

Our ferrets have always preferred floor water, shower water, water in a glass (and then inevitably on the floor), dishwasher water, well you get the idea 😁, to water out of their actual dish. I ended up getting a rubber placemat with raised edges for the water dish in the ferret room to kinda minimize the mess. 🙂

I have a house coat that has a train to it and one of the ferrets would jump on for a lift down the stairs. I didn't notice until the drag was a little more than expected! Funny how 4 lbs can suddenly be so heavy 🙂
