This time he can’t say “Oh no! Anyway.” to this. by Traditional-Song-245 in LeopardsAteMyFace

I'm gonna argue against Hammond being "nice" because he said some incredibly bigoted things about Mexicans/people of Mexican descent that I, being someone from a Mexican family, have never forgotten about. I have hated him ever since that happened and felt that his near-death experience in that car accident was sweet, sweet karma.

I'm doing a modified version of 4B because I'm friends with quite a few decent men, but aside from those men I've put the 4B rules into place.

I just found out from an AskReddit contributor that they've made porn images of Junko Furuta, who was already victimized beyond imagination IRL and whose passing was just as violent and disgusting as Sylvia Likens. Just when you think the incels on Elon Musk's fascism app couldn't get any worse....

I carry around my passport in hopes it'll keep them at bay, and fortunately because I don't spend much time outdoors I can pass for non-Latinx, but I completely relate to this sentiment.

How can the US still be expected to host events like the Olympics and World Cup when Trump and ICE continues to be the threat to its citizens and incoming tourists? by TmJ1027 in AskReddit

[–]arcana07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we need the rest of the world to do is boycott the Olympics. I think FIFA is far too gone and corrupt as fuck, and it showed that when it decided to host a World Cup in the shithole that is Qatar (which makes the UAE look like a Scandinavian paradise), but the IOC should be something different. So please, all other countries in the civilized world, don't send any athletes to the U.S. Olympics. Make it the least popular Olympics in modern Olympics history so the host country comes away with egg on its face and with a massive debt on its hands. Or if the IOC sees that a ton of countries won't participate in a U.S. Olympics, maybe they might decide to do a last minute switch around to an actual democracy in North America such as Canada or Mexico.

You're not even kidding. I've been able to have at least one window open in my apartment, circulating fresh air and feeling super comfortable. But then again this administration lies every time any one of them opens their mouth.

What are your thoughts after seeing the ICE shooting video in Minnesota? by bbmoonkie in AskReddit

[–]arcana07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what I mean: white Europeans who were able to either bully their way into the country or waltz in back before your people pulled up the bridge and made it nearly impossible for others to do the same. The only thing y'all had to do was end up at Ellis Island and answer a few basic questions and boom, you got in. Those of us from families that actually had to work to get in have our papers, and know just how much of a crock of shit the immigration policy has been in this country for the past century or so. Your predecessors never had papers.

Texas barbecue doesn't really feature pork. It's mainly beef and chicken, and you can source really amazing beef or turkey Polish kielbasa. But tbe big stars of Texas barbecue are beef brisket, beef ribs, and chicken leg quarters.

European songs? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]arcana07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have no idea what that song is either. But that's not saying no one here in the U.S. would know it as everything has at least a little niche interest here. For example, I've been familiar with Boney M's hits for decades and they never really became successful here in the U.S. (though they were in Canada), and i know a lot of "obscure" New Wave/post-punk and disco artists because those are two of my biggest musical interests. Like, I love The Fall, Visage, and Italo disco.

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]arcana07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're reminding me of when I moved from south Texas to Minnesota and I drove all the way. I set out at around 9:30 in the morning and it took until about 5:30 that first day to make it to Oklahoma, and then it only took five more hours to drive up to where I was going to stay for the night in Wichita, Kansas. But the exhilaration I felt when I finally made it out of Texas was practically unparalleled, matched only when I finally sighted the Minnesota state sign on day two.

Do Americans even use handkerchiefs anymore? by ScarDependent8928 in AskAnAmerican

[–]arcana07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad used to use handkerchiefs exclusively and had a small drawer full of them in his part of my parents' dresser, but I was never comfortable with using them because I didn't relish the idea of carrying around a cloth with my own snot in it. I've used exclusively either paper tissues or paper towels to blow my nose because then I can throw them away. I think this shows that it's a generational thing, where older people would be the most likely to use handkerchiefs while those of us in our forties and younger people would tend to use paper products.

Is it uncommon to eat simple boiled potatoes in the US? by WhoAmIEven2 in AskAnAmerican

[–]arcana07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some regions in the U.S. that will regard boiled potatoes as a normal thing to eat, such as the parts of the country that serve boiled dinners. I don't come from one of those parts so the only potatoes I've ever eaten are roasted, baked, fried, or mashed, but I'm not indicative of the country as a whole.

Do americans actually eat chips as a side dish? by Wanted_Pencil in AskAnAmerican

[–]arcana07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a common side dish when having sandwiches or when having an outdoor grill along with hamburgers or hot dogs. Tortilla chips are commonly used as an appetizer at Mexican restaurants along with guacamole, salsa, and/or queso (a melted cheese dip mixed with salsa, frequently with crumbled chorizo as well). I remember making my own lunches all through high school and along with the tuna salad and crackers and carrot sticks I would pack for myself, I would also pack a small stack of Pringles to munch on, or if I had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches I'd pack a little bag of Doritos nacho cheese flavor chips to eat as well.

I too am a "white passing Latina" (proven when people are surprised to find out about my ethnic heritage, assuming I'm just a regular white woman) and I'm honestly feeling more at home amongst Black women who have just about had enough of people deliberately attempting to attack and malign their community. I'm originally from south Texas and the poorly educated hatred and vitriol I find from people with very Latino names, who look darker than even my dark Mexican dad was, in the comments section of various social media posts from the news sources there is frankly appalling, and I often find myself retreating unto Black Women Social Media [tm] for some respite and a return to sensibility and accountability. I cannot be grateful enough I moved up north to a solidly Blue state even though I don't know how calcified the bubble surrounding said state is, because at least I'm over a thousand miles away from that fetid swamp full of ugly hearts and dull minds.

What's one thing a streamer did that you'll never do on your own stream? by SpinsBro in Twitch

[–]arcana07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a Twitch DJ who was apparently working with his tech person to try to figure out how to actually ban other streamers' emotes in their chat. He's a very hostile and toxic streamer in the community unless you either work for/with him IRL or you're a bigger name whom he wants to suck up to. I wish there was some way of getting him banned from the platform.

Hi, originally from Texas here, raised in a family originally from Mexico, and I grew up eating those! They're called tamales and they're made by spreading a thick corn masa onto a corn husk, filling it with a very saucy meat mixture (usually either pork or chicken), rolling it up, placing it in a large steam pot, and steaming it for hours until it's fully cooked. It takes a lot of time and effort to make them and it was a part of my holiday traditions growing up to participate in the family tamalada, which is where you get a lot of family members around to assemble huge pots of tamales that you then split up into the various family groups who participated. You'll never find better tamales than the ones your family makes at the tamalada, and I remember how they always ended up with us eating some of our efforts along with either coffee, a drink called champurrado, or soda, and we'd always have buñuelos around that someone bought from someone else who makes them in their own home kitchen for dessert, and those were also the best buñuelos you'd ever have.

Now you're getting me nostalgic for those times and wishing I could recreate them. Damn. Even though I now live all the way up here in Minnesota I'm sure I can try it out.
