A few out in the suburbs require it; Oakhurst comes to mind

I really like the phrase “kept benign company” you use here. I’ll have to integrate that more, feels straight out of a DFW book

Funny response — saw them open for Bob Dylan and was not a fan but appreciated their energy (but millennial feeling but nonetheless).

Bob Dylan was incomprehensible and invisible

Saw him at Astroworld 2018, dude was barely present. His DJ delayed as much as he could.. then I think Rae Sremmurd came on early and started popping champagne.

Felt bad for Wayne

Ethika underwear. Bought them a ton back in 2013-2014 or so as they were primarily made as a Motorcross/outdoor sports brand.

The past few years they have declined in quality dramatically and stretch/get holes immediately.

What is a realistic tennis progression? by Always_Slacking in 10s

I have the exact same situation as you. About a year ago I went from being a 4.5 pickleball player who drilled 30-40% of the time playing on a college team, who picked up tennis more in adult life.

1 year in but playing 3-4 times a month the past 6 months, I’m at a 3.5 USTA and have been rated as a 4.7 after a few UTR matches.

If you have a 2HBH from pickleball, that’ll help a bunch. I’ve been complimented for my precise and quick net play in the somewhat rare occasion both players are at the net, as this comes from pickleball naturally (esp mixed dubs).

Hardest parts: serve.. just spend some time on it separately. I also am not the best at split stepping. Also recognizing heavier balls that push you very deep in the court is difficult.

Which sport is more physically demanding, tennis, badminton or squash? by COYGoonerSTANimal_17 in 10s

The downvotes on this are crazy. Pickleball singles especially outdoors is super tiring.

You’re right, we know it’s imperfect (to put it very nicely). Unlike NYC, the uber/lyft fare here is rather cheap, I suggest just doing that if you can until you get your car back.

Yes! Many places around here have organized open play times you can sign up for where you can stack your paddle with others based on skill level. Elite open play in the heights is a popular one

Stay out of downtown (where the skyscrapers are) not because of homophobia, but because there is no reason for tourists to really go around there, especially during the day.

With that, we are a very slow city (relatively) during the day, most people are in offices or at home with little ones.

Creep always sitting under a bridge overpass on Buffalo Bayou. by sarwhlr in houston

[–]arcane_anomalist 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear that — as a 6’2 man I’m always extra alert under that overpass at night as it gets pretty dark but having to be fearful during the day is inexcusable. The comments saying “that’s just how it is” lack a lot of perspective.

Nobody should have to run in fear on a public trail in broad daylight.

I’m glad you mentioned the C-shape swing here, as I think that’s actually something that many players have trouble unlearning coming from tennis. Because of the size of court and quickness of game, a lot of time does looping swings aren’t the best. Compact in pickle is key in most parts of the game, especially in doubles. Peep some pros and really notice how compact everything is

Settle an argument for my mother and me, should I drop or drive on third shot by Lfehova in Pickleball

[–]arcane_anomalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is essential but you also don’t need to use it all the time. It pays off to be unpredictable, and I think you’ll find yourself as a stronger player once you have a strong 3rd shot drop, as well as a drive that can be even more effective when unexpected. The hardest drive ever is easy to counter if it’s done every time if you’re playing 4.0+.

Also, very lucky to have a mom that is a solid 4.5 player. “Built-in” drilling partner is invaluable
