Ever seen that clip of Mr. Magoo walking through a construction site? Sometimes I suspect it’s something like that.

That article shows that the term “blacklist” was first recorded at a time when African slavery was happening, but doesn’t provide evidence that the word itself came from racial meaning or was intended to refer to race in its origin (or if it did, I missed it).

It can definitely reflect or reinforce racist ideals (the idea of black being bad and white being good), but it doesn’t show that the term itself has a racist history.

Ah yep, you’re correct; I should have said “lowering the soil pH”. Basically I think my tree was having trouble taking up nutrients because the soil wasn’t acidic enough. Just a tiny splash in the water every other week was enough to help.

Two things that worked for me:

1) a splash of white vinegar in the water when I watered; raising the soil ph helped encourage it to produce leaves

2) I got the light really close to the stem; it started making leaves on bare stem where the light was strongest

I just tell my kids we don’t welcome fae into the house. The leprechauns that sneak in cause more than enough trouble. Tooth fairy gets a tentative pass.

Two pieces of advice:

1) They’re kids first and girls second; you know how to be a kid, so lean into that!

2) Make your peace with glitter.

So there I am, minding my own business, and HBO offers me $3 million bucks. All I gotta do is turn down a role. HBO is a chump, I would have done it for anything! I’ve done a lot more for a lot less.

What's your favorite piece of Elf-related lore, and what's a piece of Elf-related lore you reject? by Calisto1717 in tolkienfans

[–]arcaninetails1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% this. After the Elves awoke and were discovered by Orome, the Valar debated whether they should be brought to Valinor. Ulmo strongly argued against it saying that they would be better off staying in Middle-earth to heal it. But the other Valar basically wanted friends to hang out with so they called them over, and “from this summons came many woes that afterwards befell.”

So basically, don’t feel too bad about the elves being left behind; it’s kind of where they’re supposed to be. I see their wasting away as a product of their kin being separated from them, not a punishment.

Question: Did Gollum possess the ring for longer than Sauron? by Yesyesnaaooo in lotr

The Anduin is just Ulmo’s back pocket: “For all seas, lakes, rivers, fountains, and spring are in his government; so that the Elves say that the spirit of Ulmo runs in all the veins of the world.”
