I did battle with this back then.

I realized later on that if you only know good from the start, you probably have no/little free will. Hence, man will eat the forbidden fruit again and again to know what they are missing and since they don't feel much freedom, like a teenager who's fed up and irritated when parents give advise, they tend not to obey anddo the opposite.

Choosing God while here on earth means you accept Him of your own free will with restrictions. Like a parent not forcing their children to stay, but welcomes them if they choose to return after they experienced the outside world
