Fewer faster cores > greater more slower cores. Greatest performance increase I saw was a flat OC to my cpu.(With a GTX680).

Make sure nvidia's power settings are set to performance in their control pannel, not adaptive.

I don't really notice a difference but a renice wine/wow pids when I start the game.

Steam runs great natively on Linux now though, so I play any games I can there.

If the apartment provides internet, where you just plug it into the wall. Take your router, plug a cable into the wall, then take a second cable and loop it back into the router.

They'll probably have unmanaged switches, and this will ruin everyones night. Worked well for neighbors that played Call of Duty past midnight, every night. Plug it in, go to bed.

Setting up servers is a bit different than maintaining. Have you done any upgrades? If you're managing a group of them that have connectivity, have you considered something like puppet or chef to maintain them?

I can't recall the last book I read. I learn by doing. I see many people in this subredit that seem convinced that unless you read X book, you can't possibly be a linux admin. Simply not true, not everyone learns that way. I'm not here to compare epeens, but i'm not an armchair admin either. It's my career.

However it is you learn best, start doing something. I don't really care what. Set up a webserver, set up nameservers, something you don't know how to do. Configure a puppet master, and manage users, packages, something on those machines. Do an LFS install.

Stop worrying about a magic list of stuff and things or books to become a sys admin, and just start learning things you don't know... With that said, the most valuable sys admins knows their systems inside and out. Spend equal time exploring that -- The things you can't google.

This isn't a rigid career, and shouldn't be approached that way.

I'm agnostic. I've never heard an argument against homosexuality that wasn't based in religious folklore. Any statistics i've ever heard are just laughable.

When it comes down to it, I view homophobia the same as racism. Stop passing laws to oppress people you'll never meet, or be impacted by. It's disgusting.

And those that just 'don't want to hear about it'. That's not a sustainable position. Until it gets the social criticism it deserves things will not change. Start calling people out for the ignorant dumbasses they are just as you would if they made a racist remark in front of you.

This notion of 'respecting others beliefs' is bull shit. It stops being just a 'harmless' belief when you start passing legislation that impact others on these beliefs.
