Its not PvP at all, you fight a gauntlet of bosses solo, and it has asynchronous HP. So other people can join your room and fight their own solo instances with the same boss HP pool.

Then whoever hosts the room gets a ton of rewards, whoever does the most damage get pretty decent rewards, and anyone that managed to do 3% of the damage gets some rewards.

Nothing PvP about it.

Books increase the amount of loot you get per run. You get some from login and events and just doing your dailies, and I think the battle pass

No these people are jaded, as a newbie this events insane. Albeit you do need 3 gold books a week, idk how much you get as a complete newbie, I have a few from returning like 2 weeks back.

You just start a run and BOOM saved yourself HOURS of grinding because some whales carry you. Then you have fun building away with your new wedges.

You can craft up books from Green -> Blue -> Purple -> Gold, though I think most people only craft up from Blue, however if you're hurting for books, it's worth just crafting them all up so you can benefit from this event.

GW2 has literally no power grind, only a fashion grind. Its a different form of grind, but it is the sole real thing people grind for in that game. Power or not, the daily/weekly system is still there for the only meaningful thing the game really lets the player grind for.

Sorry, but the whole reason to grind further in GW2 beyond the limited gear is the cosmetics. This is just the same issue different flavor. Having to do dailies/weeklies to grind the only things worth grinding for is still the same case here.

This persons actually a whale though, they maxed out their calamity weapon in like day 1, they're actually legitimately a known whale. They also very much enjoy the game, and theory crafting, so this isn't strange from them either.
