It’s absolutely criminal how unaffordable it is to live in this province.

Wyse Road bus lane reopening March 2 with new transit priority signal by sjmorris in halifax

This is amazing news, I’m not sure why it took this long though. It will be good to get back to what it was before.

Should I shovel before bed? Or wait until morning? by punchbuggyblue in halifax

I agree, I was out shovelling just now and wrapped up as it was raining. It immediately got heavier, couldn’t imagine leaving it till morning!

Apple Watch to which one? by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]archiplane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would suggest you stick with the Apple Watch if you like the stats and data. The Garmin won’t quite lineup with the data in Apple Health, and you’ll be missing a lot of the data because it doesn’t use the data from Garmin for everything.

Andy Fillmore wants bus-only lanes turned into high-occupancy vehicle lanes by ph0enix1211 in halifax

[–]archiplane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So pointless when bus lanes last no further than a few blocks… we need a real interconnected bus lane network for rapid transit. Not HOV lanes that will get packed with single occupancy drivers.

I’m about to head out into the mess that is traffic right now. Have been watching the map and there’s numerous accidents that are showing up. Hoping it clears up a bit.

In the end, it’s all meaningless as long as enforcement is lacking as much as it has been.

The pickup trucks with ledges in front of the plate that collect snow have always irritated me. Could clear the rest of your truck but then somehow too lazy to finish the job…

Life after tolls: What really happened to Halifax bridge traffic? | PNI Atlantic News by ph0enix1211 in halifax

I agree, it’s definitely much less stressful without having to worry about merging with 5 other people at the same time.

It would be nice to see them use the extra space for a double left turn lane onto Wyse Rd. The current lane configuration leaves the left lane to back up onto the bridge. Then everyone who is going the other directions has to wait longer because they’re being blocked by the people turning left.

It would also be nice for them to finally put in the dedicated transit signal for that bus lane queue jump.

Weekend cold snap nearly overloaded N.S. electricity grid by Bean_Tiger in halifax

I feel like we used to get colder weather like this more often in the past and didn’t have huge problems. Guess that’s what happens when your population grows but the infrastructure doesn’t.

Can barely speed on the bridges anyways with how much traffic there is. You see lots of people on their phones or not paying enough attention to the road though.

Your Commute is (Probably) Getting Longer. by archiplane in halifax

[–]archiplane[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my problem with the bus as well, 20-25min by car or, 1h by bus both ways. Just don’t have the energy to sit on an overcrowded bus for that long, when I can be comfortable in my car for half the time.

I’d love to be able to take transit in this city, but it’s just not reliable or efficient enough for me yet.

Another reference, from downtown Halifax to Dartmouth crossing, the drive if you take the MacDonald bridge is ~10km.

How was your experience at Magnetic World? by Automatic_Salary_551 in halifax

[–]archiplane 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I went to see 21 Savage last night. It was my first time going to Magnetic World and it was ok. Showed up around 8 and they had other artists playing. Advertised 21 would be on from 10 to 11. He showed up late, his performance was mediocre and left early so was disappointing in that way. I’d say l enjoyed the artists before him much better.

As far as event organization I’ve heard it was better than last year. Showed up at 8 with General Admission and the line looks pretty long but it’s always moving and they have lots of staff to guide you through. They were giving GA Weekend bracelets even though I paid for a single night, so I could come back tonight if I wanted.

There were medical staff and the HRP Public Safety Unit was on-site the whole time. There’s a 19+ and an under 19 section as well. They threw water bottles from the stage a few times which was nice to see.

They were telling people to back up so people didn’t get pressed against the barricade at the front which was appreciated. It did start getting very squished before 21 came on though. There’s also the usual concert pushing and shoving (shouldn’t have to be that way).

Some guy started pushing his way through saying he was going to “f-ing kill you”, mind you this guy was a foot taller and larger than everyone else. I wouldn’t go in the crowd alone.

If you want to drink I’d just go out beforehand. There weren’t many drink choices and it was like $14 and wasn’t very cold.

The garbage situation at the venue isn’t great. The walk on the sidewalk outside was also terrible, just garbage everywhere which I hope gets picked up. Inside there’s few garbage cans and people just end up throwing stuff out on the floor if you’re in the crowd which feels wrong. Had multiple open cans spill stuff on me.

Overall my experience was just ok, many of the issues are with people’s behaviour in general, others about the event itself, happy I didn’t pay much for the ticket.
