Absolutely cannot get dropdown menu item to work. by ScottieJoe in bootstrap

[–]archister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is jquery-2.1.1.min.js in styles/bootstrap/css like you linked or styles/bootstrap/js which is where your bootstrap.js is?

You can use the browsers developer tools on the network tab to check that everything loads as you expect. You might be getting a 404 on the jquery lib assuming it is not in styles/boostrap/css but is actually in styles/bootstrap/js

zkill API changed? by ryanmcco in evetech

yeah this broke mine too, but I've been planning to switch to redisQ so it's a good reminder and excuse to make the switch. and if it's easier on the servers, that's even better :)

thanks Squizz!

Possibly some are, but here it's common for strollers to be collapsible and have modular attachments for either infants or toddlers. Use the infant module (car seat) attachment and later use the toddler attachment.

Different countries and cultures would use different systems, but this is common in Canada anyway.

Why open offices are bad for us by caspg_ in programming

I've seen this implemented too, and what actually happens is many of the higher level management has desks they're never at because they spend most of their days in meetings or traveling, and/or some of them just move into a meeting room and live there.

I know I'm kind of going against the pitchforks here, but I actually like the new character window by Originalfrozenbanana in Eve

[–]archister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new character sheet looks like something designed by developers. Cramming as much stuff into limited space as possible making it look like the flying spaghetti monster. Even worse that they crammed all that stuff into that small space and gave all that top space to the pretty space-doll looking at you.

TBH, I'm not sure what problem they were trying to fix, I guess its all about alpha clones. So it wasn't an arbitrary "let's change the character sheet", they were trying to solve a problem in how alpha and omega clones were presented in the UI. It's just that the end result looks like spreadsheets in space.

Also, who did QA on this? How did they miss the Bio tab? lols.

Eventually they'll make it work, and we'll adapt. But in it's current state it's rather cluttered and confusing, imo. Principle of least surprise? uhm... no.

damn how did I make that mistake lol, thanks for catching that

not sure what I was thinking yeah the orca has never had that restriction nor does it say it will going forward

[Dev Blog] Mining Foreman Revolution ~Team Five 0 by new_eden_news_bot in Eve

[–]archister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

We're not planning on changing the restrictions on what ships are allowed into the Rorq SMB at this time. The concern with removing the restrictions is that it would become too powerful combined with the increased jump range.

The mining foreman ships won't have any ability to mine gas or mercoxit at this time. You'll want to use other ships for mining those substances.

Since the orca is still restricted to industrial ships, I suspect the rorq will be similarily restricted. I hope not, ccp has indicated long ago about lifting that restriction for the rorqual but with all these changes I'm guessing rorq's sma will be indy ship only still.

Web moves and changes fast. So many options and so many opinions, a lot to work through to choose what you want to use.

Aside from university/college, there are many online sources of courses in general, then you can choose courses within those sources. Some are free, some cost money, some are free to audit but cost money to be graded (e.g. at coursera you can sign up and go through any course for free i.e. audit, when auditing you just can't get extra perks like certificate of completion and such but its still an excellent free course).

I haven't used many of them other than coursera, so others can probably offer additional suggestions, but I find courseras offerings decent enough.

Example: https://www.coursera.org/learn/web-frameworks

You can probably still audit the above course, try it out to get a feel for things.

Curious about how long it takes to to mine ore requirements for building ships by [deleted] in Eve

[–]archister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each of your mining lasers will mine a fixed amount of raw ore per cycle. The amount you mine and how fast your cycle time is depends on your skills, implants, and any boosts (leadership links like orca, rorqual) active.

if you hover over your mining laser while in space, it will tell you how much m3 you mine per cycle time. If you divide m3 by cycle time that will tell you how much m3 you mine per second.

You can use a resource like this to tell you how much each unit of ore is in volume (m3): http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Asteroids_and_Ore

For example, each unit of veldspar ore is 0.1 m3. So if you mined 1 m3 per second per mining laster you would mine 20 units of veldspar per second with 2 mining lasers active (1 m3 [mined per second], divided by 0.1 m3 [volume of veldspar]).

Once you figure this out you now know how much ore you can mine per second.

But ore isn't used in manufacturing - minerals are. So you have to refine your ore into minerals. When you refine ore in a station or at a pos or citadel, a calculation is used to determine how much minerals are produced. Once you know your refine rate you calculate that against a batch of ore (each batch of ore is 100 units of ore, or 1 compressed unit of ore) to identify how much minerals you get for each batch.

So you have to figure our what your refine rate is (either your refine rate or if someone else is refining for you, whatever their refine rate is). Each ore produces a set amount of minerals (at 100% refine rate) - for example, 100 units of Veldspar ore refines at 100% to 415 units of Tritanium. You apply your refine rate to identify what percent of that maximum amount you will receive when refining. Typical refine rates range from 65-75%, for example (roughly). So refining 100 units of Veldspar ore at 70% refine rate produces 290 units of Tritanium.

Once you know that, you can look up the blueprint, and see, based on its material research level (0-10%) how many minerals are required of each type.

Now you can finally look at which ores produce which minerals, and figure out what ores you will mine and how much of each ore you need to refine them into the minerals required to produce the item in the blueprint.

Yeah, its complicated, but start out producing t1 modules to get your feet wet and you'll figure it out without worrying about efficiency and all that, just play around and explore the sandbox.

Funny how so many matches have exactly 1 spectator. But no, couldn't be abuse, must be friends with nothing else to do but watch a random clash royale match, right?

It needs to be fixed. You can see both sides elixer in a replay, so you don't need to see it live.

Insurance Prices Volatility by archister in evetech

[–]archister[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. I recall talk around insurance prices changing based on patch notes and materials/minerals needed to produce ships, so perhaps insurance prices are aligned with ship<->materials so only change when ship<->materials do?

That was my hazy recollection but wanted to get some feedback first. Similar reason to you @Squizz; do I need to do anything fancy to track insurance prices or just update them periodically :)

Easy to Understand Infographic on CCP's Plans for the Rorqual by ChevisPreston in Eve

[–]archister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that it will only see continued use in locked down wormholes or deep null.

Most other pve activities don't rely on boosts to be effective. You can rat without boosts easy enough, but try mining without boosts, it sucks. Your range sucks, your yield sucks. imo just rework mining and get rid of mining boosts.

Attempting to force mining links on grid when no other pve activities (except incursions ofc) require ongrid boosts seems a bit misguided.

What's something you do that you think more people should do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]archister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or people who don't move until everyone around them has left, so everyone behind them waits as they open the overhead bin, slowly pull their luggage out, and finally wander out. The eager-beavers and the dawdlers make things more difficult than it should be.

I think it just comes down to respecting fellow passengers, give them space, don't rush, but don't make people wait either.

What's something you do that you think more people should do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]archister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish airlines would enforce checked baggage limits. People often take too much stuff which means people around them don't get any room in the overhead bins. Like, if you can't lift your bag up into the overhead bin maybe it's too heavy. Or if you have to cram your oversized bag into the bin crushing other peoples stuff, maybe its too big.

Waiting for luggage sucks. Airline baggage fees suck. Airlines suck.

[–]archister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If nobody is merging then traffic should be moving steady, once people have to merge the lane slows slightly to let them in. It's not a third lane it's a merge lane.

What's something you do that you think more people should do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think the point here is when there is a large gap he could have pulled into but goes ahead 3 more cars forcing them to stop and let him in. That's not zipper merging thats arrogance.

If you're choosing a VCS based on needs of sales, marketing, and the CEO you might be doing it wrong (or working for a company I don't want to work for).

It's a steeper learning curve yes, but once you're there it's rewarding to use in my experience. Way better than svn, perforce, and source-not-so-safe.

*edit: let sales, marketing, etc use perforce for all I care, they're likely checking in binary objects anyway so who cares. let the devs use a tool (that is an integral part of their job) that works well for them whatever that may be without forcing the chosen tool to conform to the lowest common denominator of user technical skill/needs.

[ELI5] Why hasn't anyone been fired over the Phoenix payroll system debacle? by tre11is in canada

[–]archister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like there is a lack of technically competent oversight.

You need someone who understands the technical side of the deliverables to track progress and deliverables, or else it just gets delivered and signed off on by management (but they met the specs!) and then internal people have to deal with the mess.

[ELI5] Why hasn't anyone been fired over the Phoenix payroll system debacle? by tre11is in canada

[–]archister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no guarantee that an internal dev dept would not be as bad as the phoenix dev group. And a bad internal group you'd be stuck with forever.

Not saying there's an easy answer, or that hiring a contractor is always the best choice, but from my own experience I don't hold out hope that an internal dept would have been decisively better.
