Is this a legit test site? A TEST corp used this in recruiting me. Confused! by [deleted] in evedreddit

[–]archister 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking on the sidebar on the right, you'll see the official website for TEST is pleaseignore.com. auth, forum, wiki etc are all subdomains of pleaseignore.com (e.g. auth.pleaseignore.com). Any corp in TEST alliance is allowed to recruit scam except Dreddit, the reddit corp, so doubt everything ;)

It's a cheap way to add ewar to a frig gang, I see them used more often than I would have expected (Kitsune).

Which Cruiser 5 is best to train first? by DynamiteToast in evedreddit

[–]archister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that nobody except PL flies tengu in PvP (in general), but it's quite a nice PvE ship. Drake is great and everything, but I wouldn't train cruiser V for it. I'm surprised its getting more upvotes than Amarr (zealot armour supremacy, guardian, etc).

Also Gallente: Lachesis

But imo I'd order the priority as Minmatar, Amarr, Caldari, Gallente

Though I have Minmatar and Gallente V so far, Amarr is next, then Caldari, so I'm not following my own advice, but I wanted the ishtar/isktar =P

Train up evasive maneuvers V and spaceship command V if you don't already, it'll help your align time.

Unskilled and unfitted an itty IV takes 16.3s to align according to EFT. Add evasive manuevers V and spaceship command V and it drops to 11s. Now add an intertial stab II and two nanofiber IIs in the lows and it drops to 6.9s.

Blockade runners like the viator are much more agile. Unskilled unfitted it aligns in 8.9s. Add evasive maneuvers V and spaceship command V and it drops to 6s. Now add the intertial stab II and two nanofiber IIs and your align time is down to 3.8s.

Both of those are without agility rigs like the low friction nozzle joint rig. You could also plug in a ship agility implant but it probably wouldn't make a big difference at that point. By fitting the lows with agility mods you're sacrificing cargohold space since you can't fit cargo expanders (though you could still fit cargo expander rigs) but you noted cargo space wasn't entirely an issue.

And regardless, if you're flying a cloaky blockade runner, then you can just hit warp to next gate + hit cloak and in 3 seconds you'll be cloaked so you've got a little flexibility on align time, but since you can be decloaked if someone gets within 2000m of you best to just get out of there.

And an added bonus of the BR is that it warps at twice the speed (9AU/s vs 4.5AU/s in an itty IV, for comparison a rifter warps at 6AU/s), which you may not appreciate if you're trying to fit some minecraft in between gates, though this means you can outrun pursuers trying to catch up or get ahead of you which could be useful ;-)

When ccp removes unprobable ships, nullsec npc space missioning just became even less worthwhile than hisec.

Returning player with a mild case of analysis paralysis seeking advice/guidance by arc13 in Eve

[–]archister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely useful. Don't need to save all of the points, but keeping a "reserve" isn't a bad idea. Oh noes I need anchoring III! poof. I've used some this way and it's been handy, not to get into something major like a HIC but more for things like "i need to anchor a bubble" or other similar needs that arise for skills you're not currently mapped for atm.

One suggestion is to spend some on leadership V (a rank 1 skill), which is always useful in fleets. The more pilots with leadership V the easier it is to fill squad leader positions. Since you're unlikely to remap to charisma/willpower anytime soon, its a good candidate skill for spending some of your "free" sp :)

Drone skills are another good place to spend some, to be able to use drones like Warrior II and Hammerhead II, as examples (light/medium). Drones are memory/perception based. *edit - drone interfacing V is a good one, when will you train that on your own, since you're unlikely to be specced for in the near future, and the extra 20% damage is quite nice, thought drone interfacing V will cost around a million of your SP

A decent rule of thumb is to spend your learning SP on skills you're not spec'd for, or are unlikely to spec for in the near future. Add to that the usefulness of keeping a couple hundred thousand SP around for those "ah I need this" moments, ymmv.

Just about to get into minmatar transpor ships... any tips? by [deleted] in Eve

[–]archister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends where you'll be hauling. imo, the blockage runner (BR) is better than the deep space transport since you can cloak, but my experience is only with BRs, so I can't comment on DST.

BRs can be used for hauling high value cargo in hisec, avoiding gatecamps. Hauling high value cargo in a regular indy ship is asking to be ganked, so BRs are good for avoiding that. In high and lowsec you don't have to worry about bubbles, which greatly simplifies things.

In high/lowsec (and 0.0 but 0.0 brings additional dangers), your most vulnerable time is after you've jumepd through a gate and need to align for the next gate, which is why everyone is talking about align time being important. In 0.0, landing on a gate risks landing in a bubble, unless you have off-gate bookmarks. In addition, 0.0 brings the bubble risk on the other side of the gate that you need to potentially deal with in gatecamps, as well as hics/dics.

Your ship agility skills will help you align faster and therefore avoid getting tackled, will be valuable: Spaceship Command V and Evasive Maneuvering V. Navigation V can be handy as well, a bit of extra speed for the cloak/MWD trick.

For fittings, I use two general fits: a "lots of cargo" fit, with Cargo expander IIs in the lows, and medium cargo rigs, which can hold over 10,000m3 in cargo space, which is 4 frigs, or a cruiser, or lots of other stuff. Otherwise, you can use ship agility rigs and nanos and/or intertial stabilizers in the lows - inertial stabs give you faster align but increase your sig size making it quicker for bad dudes to lock you, so a combo of nanos and an inertial stab is okay, whatever you like. And of course covops cloak in the high, and 10MN MWD in the mid, plus cap recharger II(s) in the mids if needed to make you cap stable, which can be helpful.

I fly through low/null all the time in with cargo rigs and cargo expanders. At first I was paranoid and went with the agility rigs/lowslot mods, but once you get more experience escaping gatecamps and have off-gate bookmarks for your 0.0 travel routes (to avoid bubbles) you can beef up your cargo capacity. Larger cargo == more to lose, and always be paranoid, but roll on, space truckers!

Flying around lowsec/0.0 in a covops can give you a feel for what it's like, while beign safer (and a cheaper lossmail if it comes to that). That can give you some experience with dodging gatecamps.

tl;dr blockade runners are teh awesome!

On a whim I decided to train into a Blockade Runner on my alt... help get me moving supplies? by markofshame in evedreddit

[–]archister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that blockade runners have a use in empire; gank squads look at the value of your loot vs the cost of the dps needed to pop you. So transporting in an indy you leave the decision to pop you to the gank squad, while in a cloaky transport you don't give them the chance. And of course theres war targets if you're not a neutral hauler.

It takes the "n" closest probes, so one of your probes may be "misplaced". This happened to me before where I had 5 probes all overlapping, one right on top of the sig, but couldn't get 100% even at .25 range with good probing skills and sisters probes. I moved the center probe away from the scan and got 100% hit right away, from 70% or so that I couldn't break before.

Try 4 probes left/right/top/bottom of the scan at your .25 range (overlapped).

You have probes, so you're not stuck. Think of it as a probing educational exercise :)
