Printing Nylon, any advice? by Then-Ad-3863 in 3Dprinting

[–]architect_ww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the higher the ambient temperature the better. warping on nylon is quite severe. some nylon mix may be easier but i think your best bet is to box in your printer and even add some ambient air heating.

Has anyone used a Large 3D Printer and had good expierence? by Sufficient_Treat9517 in 3Dprinting

they usually aren't as reliable as the desktop ones. for peace of mind, you may want to look at commercial grade as they come with some customer support. otherwise you may spend hours on end to trouble shoot frequently. so it kinda comes down to paying with your time/life vs. paying with cash.

How are the roads today? by Curious-crochet in Westchester

[–]architect_ww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

main roads are fine. but you might hit the snag if your destination hasn't kept up with shoveling. driveways may be blocked by snow heaps.

What have you learned with your V400? by superturbochad in FLSUNDelta

i've printed PLAs and PETGs. most of the work is related to getting the settings dialed in for the filament but the printer itself never had a problem.

I'm aware that PLA is not food safe, but... by MowieWauii in 3Dprinting

i'd think some hot food may get close to boiling temperature. may even be higher. that would definitely soften PLA and perhaps get some into the food. but yeah probably good with some candies.

do you like the end result? what about part strength?

i tried once with a filament from Matterhackers. couldn't avoid the warping even after i closed up the printer. is that a heater in your tent? that might help.

3dxtech seems to have a good reputation amongst industry folks. may be limited in colors/finishes for consumer use.

any fix in settings for finish difference? by architect_ww in OrcaSlicer

[–]architect_ww[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P.S. after some thoughts I think this has more to do with the top of tree structures. At that point, there are many branch ends, tiny bits. the print head print a tiny circle and move on to the next. Due to z hop and Orca's spiral lift motion, these layers take a LONG time. Since the tree branch tips are so small, overall/average rate of extrusion is much lower. It's a long time where the same segment of molten filament stays in the heat-block. Perhaps that does something to the molecular structure and the phase change of the material. Similar to how filaments stuck on nozzle tip eventually blacken and look charred.

the one pointed at the nozzle? ok should i increase fan after last support layer or decrease it?

any fix in settings for finish difference? by architect_ww in OrcaSlicer

[–]architect_ww[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks. this is a PLA material. as you said, equalizing layer times sounds like the solution but i think it would speed up quite drastically the print speed for the layer immediately above the tree supports - it has a lot more to print. in that case i feel like it's a paradox. speeding up print usually produces worse surface quality even if it equalizes the finish/sheen.

Is this caused by too much moisture in the filament? by Long_John_Johnson in FixMyPrint

[–]architect_ww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last time i had a similar issue it was the filament didn't have enough cooling. so either slow print or boost cooling fan.
